@GypsyPianist Did he avoid using the right thumb too? Hard to tell from the angle and the shadow... I think I read somewhere that thumbs weren't used in baroque keyboard playing.
oh wow, this is.. perfect! daringly clear and crisp play, one mistake or even a slight thump in dynamics would show instantly and ruin the picture, but sokolov doesn't slip even once. amazing pianism!
@Sorcerer88 I totally agree. I've been trying to learn this piece, and BELIEVE ME, it is so much harder than it looks. Tye timing dynamics and crosshands have to be properly balanced. One mistake, and the whole thing just comes down crashing!
VivaTutti, maybe Couperin made the mistake. Perhaps it was an engraving error. Maybe a personal choice to edit the score. In any event, oh, what a gorgeous mistake! He's playing a devilish piece (on the piano at any rate) in front of a large audience. He plays it brilliantly, and even captures the ornamental 'trembling' at the very end that is so evocative of the harpsichord sound. A mistake? Humanness is part of the charm and depth of the performance.
@newFranzFerencLiszt I have tried to study this on piano and yes, it is a nightmare...I just can't get my hands to sit on top of each other and make a fluid movement. It would be easier on the harpsichord.

Crazy tricky / difficult, and astonishingly musical. Bravo!
Anyone know which edition he used?

Notice how he avoids using the left hand thumb! So, if you want to avoid injury, there it is.

Good interpretation but he made a mistake : at 1'03, it's C to the left hand not C#.
