Martin Atkins ( Killing Joke, PIL, PigFace, Damage Manual ) uses the Eureka and makes incredible use of it ... his drum tracks on Damage Manual are huge. Good nuff for me ...
I don't think a lot of what you are saying here makes any real musical sense..to me, personally I think the drums sound is not all that good. But an ear is a very personal thing. Very nice and overall informative video. Love the studio, with the CR up a flight, ala EMI studio 2
Having a very good to great drummer is 35% what makes recording drum tracks professional, Mics and Mic Placement 35%, Room and Pre-amps 30%... Obviously you can get REAL pro results with the Eureka... The Eureka has always been and will be the Better/Best deal in a Channel Strip... Even though I don't like the P brand the Eureka is a great DEAL period...
i call drummer abuse.... he has a software daw, he can tweak after its recorded, doesn't need the drummer to play for a million years... and burn through studio time...
As you know, I believe the Hi-Pass goes from 10hz to 10k....there appears to be no on off switch for it so I HAVE TO to pick a setting.
My question is how do you use it when TRACKING VOCALS? How would you go about dialing it in? Also, not sure what you mean by "every time you sweep it."
I wish you would have went through every button and discussed them. In particular the Side chain compression. The manual doesn't EVEN describe that knob!!! When the hey are you supposed to use it and how?!?!?
Picture the knob as a high pass filter, everytime you sweep it, it highpasses the signal to the selected frequency, now the reason you don't hear this is because that's why it's made, it's made to basically make the compressor react and compress as if it was listening to a highpassed signal to compress and create the noise reduction according the what it's hearing
@musicianstl , ...eg. you mic up a snare and then you set your compressor to compress the snare everytime it's been hit but the hit hat is so loud that the snare gets compressed when the hihat is playing, since the snare peak (strong) frequencies lay way lower than a hi-hats, you use the sidechain filter so that this hipasses enough of the highs of the hithat in the snare signal so that the compressor responds as if there was very little hithat volume before it got compressed, you get me?

Read my previous comment first: Exploiting these mic choices is a bit arrogant, as are the instruments displayed about the studio. Presonus, you have very good equipment. Who's idea was this? A non-professional deep pockets wanna be somebody who has difficulty with pronunciation and lacking in presentation skills. Go get your gear from this clown, take it to a facility that will demo it in a very high end studio and a home studio as well. This demonstrates flexibility and application.
As a Presonus Gear owner myself, all our gear is mounted in racks or cabinets. Notice all his Presonus gear is stacked, not secured, and will tumble into a pile at the slightest bump. Now tell me! What well trained engineer would misuse equipment in a non-secure configuration like that! This is obviously for temporary use and no preplanned management for video instruction/application. CONTINUED: .
I don't think his comment about the saturate is correct. My understanding is the transformer is always in circuit. The saturate adjusts the amount of current drain going through the FET amplifier for the preamp, which in turn adds even order harmonics like tubes do to create more warmth in the signal. Someone from Presonus should probably clarify that.
Those ADL600s are sweet preamps. Plus, I know more than a few engineers use Digimax pres for live drum tracking all the time. Presonus makes great gear and is unfairly maligned in a lot of cases. Remember, it isn't always about the preamp. 90% of great sound comes from the mic and its placement, which is always a function of a great engineer. An engineer like Butch Vig could get great sound with Presonus gear, but someone with less experience couldn't even with Neve and API preamps.
Eureka is a great bass pre too.

@YaronFisherT It works for what it is, remember it's all preference, and this is for a "pop" drum sound.
