  • Can anybody give me some tips on good questions to ask?

  • Could anybody tell me what the minimum for functional reach is please?

  • are pilots still be required to fight with ground troops if required or if you are just a standby back up pilot e.t.c. Airplane in wars often get grounded for sometimes long periods or even totally written off.

  • @210482fmj most likely yes, not sure though, I know that you get weapon training in case you have to eject

  • I am going for pilot in a couple of Years

And from watching this I am shitting myself!!!

  • @blondebrit100 the aptitude tests were solid

  • @1sick93 Have you taken them

  • @blondebrit100 Yes, back in 2006, I was going for Flight Observer in the Navy Fleet Air Arm. I failed it miserably. You can get aviation aptitude revision books that will help. i just didn't have what it takes. I'm currently working hard to get my weight down to join the U.S. Army. If you have any questions let me know.

  • @1sick93 Thankyou very much i appreciate your help.

Do you have any advice about preparing for them and then advice for taking them?

  • @blondebrit100 Sure, find an aviation aptitude book and study it. Learn how to multitask, a lot of the tests involved multitasking, spatial reasoning, memory and hand eye coordination.

I remember it lasted 6hrs and there were minitests focusing on a different skill. The first test you held a joystick and had to keep the dot in the crosshairs. Then the controls would switch to opposite. Then you also have to use a foot pedal as well. Also speed distance time questions were included.

  • I am really scared now, these people sound really well educated where as I am 18 from yorkshire with a yorkshire accent I havent gone to university, this looks really daunting, if i dont get through this i dont know what to do with my life btw im going for pilot

  • @dannymcwolf

if it doesn´t work out, consider joining the army air corps as a pilot (officer) or groundcrew (soldier)... all soldiers can try for pilot selection when reaching lance corporal with recommendation for corporal!! that´s what i´m going for right now :)

  • More demanding than I thought. Having second thoughts :(

  • Any tips for the fitness stage PLEASE Comment back i need all the help i can get

  • @lilpwettybumblebee It depends on your age and if you are male or female. Males under 30 need 9:10 on the Multi Stage Fitness Test (MSFT) and run a mile and a half in under 10 minutes 15 seconds. The truth is the fitter you are the easier you will find training. you can NEVER be to fit! Good luck at OASC, you will enjoy it. I did!

  • Basically you'll only get in if you can convince them that you're a complete bell-end. That's the type of people they're looking for.

  • Sounds like the only thing this bloke took from his failed attempt was a healthy portion of sour grapes!

  • That sqd ldr speaks strangely

  • No offence but the people in this film seem like uptight cocks lol people are'nt actually like this in the RAF are they?

  • thats what i thought mate ! its nothing like the army selection for obvious reasons but still though if i wasnt going to the army, it would be an officer in the RAF.

  • ye lol hopefully there not actually like that when i go, anyway mate you got a ps3? whats ur psn?

  • yeah good luck mate, what you going for in the RAF ? and yes my psn is lgnd-bev what yours buddy ?

  • i'm going for WSO, i originally wanted to be a pilot but the RAF seem to be so picky and the acceptance period can take years which really has put me off so wso seems a good option as you still get to fly with a possibility of becoming a pilot later in your carreer. my psn is Eamer18

  • call me a cynic but i think a lot of that is scripted. The RAF looks for a certain amount of individuality in its officers, not mindless automatons!

  • no!

  • I'm kind of nervous about this, could anyone give me some tips?

  • Hello smidge. Don't worry, just be yourself, try your best and enjoy it. Everyone at Cranwell are very friendly. I'm still waiting to hear if I have been successful or not.

  • Hi Bill, what were the aptitude tests like for you and were you applying for piloting?

  • Hi JVson. For the tests I did it was basic math, reading and problem solving. Time is the biggest factor. Try (and I know it's hard) to ignore it, just answer as many as you can. I applied for WSOp, and I got in. Give it your best. you'll never know until you try. Good luck.

  • Thanks for that, are you going into IOT now?

  • Im 32 and thinking of a career change....is there a huge waiting list to be a firefighter within the r.a.f???

  • Not a waiting list, just huge amounts of competeitition, the rate of acceptance is about 7 in 32000

  • I went through OASC about 3 weeks ago. Be yourself, DON'T fake it and try your best. Nintendo DS brain training will help a little however aptitude is one of these things you have or not, so don't stress about it. During the leadership part they will look at the followers as much as the leader, so do your best to support.Good luck to all who have the courage to try this, and might not think it but you WILL enjoy yourself.

  • How well did you do with the fictional scenario questions?

  • I think I did alright. My plan worked, but I ran out of time to come up with a contingency plan or plan "B" if you will. As long as you know your own plan and stick to it you should be fine. Don't let then confuse you. It's your plan. Know times and locations.

  • I passed my Wsop interview at afco yesterday and still havent stopped smiling =D Im told ill proberbly attend OASC in april and i cant wait

Anyone else on here going to be attending ?

  • When do you get that interview because I had my initial interview and now I'm going to an presentation in may does the interview come after this?

  • After presentation at afco you get asked if your still interested and if so you get an interview arranged for a convinient time usually a week or two afterwards. theres a long wait between interview and selection though, i passed my interviewin febuary and my selections not untill may 31st, gives me time to brush up on everything which is always good.

  • this video is pretty daunting, ive applied for weapon system op...is it the same at oasc? also does anyone have any tips for the filter interview at afco? please

  • cheers guys for making this, it will help me out considerably 8)

  • The girl got in, the black boy got in, and the one who wanted to be a pilot got put on hold or something.

I saw this about 3 months ago tho, so don't quote me on that!! But the girl DFEFINATELY got in! I remember that much!!

  • did they pass?

  • An RAF careers officer came to our sqn to show this as his presentation, and i believe he said that these candidates were the candidates who did not pass first time, but they were asked to do this video :) hope that helped you :)

  • i find that hard to believe because they all seemed to pass the health and fitness test alright

  • well its only what i got told, they were chosen to actually make this video because they needed people, but yeh i dont live too far from RAF cranwell so i doubt that an RAF officer would lie to us :)

  • oh k fair enough hopefully i'll be going there by this time next year
