are pilots still be required to fight with ground troops if required or if you are just a standby back up pilot e.t.c. Airplane in wars often get grounded for sometimes long periods or even totally written off.
@blondebrit100 Yes, back in 2006, I was going for Flight Observer in the Navy Fleet Air Arm. I failed it miserably. You can get aviation aptitude revision books that will help. i just didn't have what it takes. I'm currently working hard to get my weight down to join the U.S. Army. If you have any questions let me know.
@blondebrit100 Sure, find an aviation aptitude book and study it. Learn how to multitask, a lot of the tests involved multitasking, spatial reasoning, memory and hand eye coordination.
I remember it lasted 6hrs and there were minitests focusing on a different skill. The first test you held a joystick and had to keep the dot in the crosshairs. Then the controls would switch to opposite. Then you also have to use a foot pedal as well. Also speed distance time questions were included.
I am really scared now, these people sound really well educated where as I am 18 from yorkshire with a yorkshire accent I havent gone to university, this looks really daunting, if i dont get through this i dont know what to do with my life btw im going for pilot
if it doesn´t work out, consider joining the army air corps as a pilot (officer) or groundcrew (soldier)... all soldiers can try for pilot selection when reaching lance corporal with recommendation for corporal!! that´s what i´m going for right now :)
@lilpwettybumblebee It depends on your age and if you are male or female. Males under 30 need 9:10 on the Multi Stage Fitness Test (MSFT) and run a mile and a half in under 10 minutes 15 seconds. The truth is the fitter you are the easier you will find training. you can NEVER be to fit! Good luck at OASC, you will enjoy it. I did!
thats what i thought mate ! its nothing like the army selection for obvious reasons but still though if i wasnt going to the army, it would be an officer in the RAF.
i'm going for WSO, i originally wanted to be a pilot but the RAF seem to be so picky and the acceptance period can take years which really has put me off so wso seems a good option as you still get to fly with a possibility of becoming a pilot later in your carreer. my psn is Eamer18
Hello smidge. Don't worry, just be yourself, try your best and enjoy it. Everyone at Cranwell are very friendly. I'm still waiting to hear if I have been successful or not.
Hi JVson. For the tests I did it was basic math, reading and problem solving. Time is the biggest factor. Try (and I know it's hard) to ignore it, just answer as many as you can. I applied for WSOp, and I got in. Give it your best. you'll never know until you try. Good luck.
I went through OASC about 3 weeks ago. Be yourself, DON'T fake it and try your best. Nintendo DS brain training will help a little however aptitude is one of these things you have or not, so don't stress about it. During the leadership part they will look at the followers as much as the leader, so do your best to support.Good luck to all who have the courage to try this, and might not think it but you WILL enjoy yourself.
I think I did alright. My plan worked, but I ran out of time to come up with a contingency plan or plan "B" if you will. As long as you know your own plan and stick to it you should be fine. Don't let then confuse you. It's your plan. Know times and locations.
After presentation at afco you get asked if your still interested and if so you get an interview arranged for a convinient time usually a week or two afterwards. theres a long wait between interview and selection though, i passed my interviewin febuary and my selections not untill may 31st, gives me time to brush up on everything which is always good.
this video is pretty daunting, ive applied for weapon system op...is it the same at oasc? also does anyone have any tips for the filter interview at afco? please
An RAF careers officer came to our sqn to show this as his presentation, and i believe he said that these candidates were the candidates who did not pass first time, but they were asked to do this video :) hope that helped you :)
well its only what i got told, they were chosen to actually make this video because they needed people, but yeh i dont live too far from RAF cranwell so i doubt that an RAF officer would lie to us :)
Can anybody give me some tips on good questions to ask?

Basically you'll only get in if you can convince them that you're a complete bell-end. That's the type of people they're looking for.

Sounds like the only thing this bloke took from his failed attempt was a healthy portion of sour grapes!

call me a cynic but i think a lot of that is scripted. The RAF looks for a certain amount of individuality in its officers, not mindless automatons!

ovavoo 2 years ago
Not a waiting list, just huge amounts of competeitition, the rate of acceptance is about 7 in 32000
