The fifth is the weakest sound in that chord, it adds no texture to the chord.. the root tells you which chord it is, the third tells you if it's major or minor, and the seventh tells you it's a seventh chord. The fifth does nothing, just reiterates what chord it is.

You could play the fifth an octave lower than you would in the standard arpeddio as well, but it makes it sound quite muddy. You could try hammering the fitfh on aswell if you can manage it to create variations. Also sounds quite nice to do this with the higher tonic note - and that is easier to get your fingers around - if you want to give the chord more texture.

you dont need the 5th. the 5th will only make the root that you are playing sound more full, but you will be unable to determine if you are playing a major or minor chord until you add the 3rd. leaving out the 5th will do no harm and the chord will still sound full without the 5th as long as you got the 3rd. the 7th just makes the chord sound alittle more dissonant and gives it that 7th quality.
