does any one know if cute bikes own's christ cycles now because i was going to order a fixie from them and every thime i try to go on to there web-site ite send's me to the cute bikes web-site?
@TheEcPAPAsmurf yes CUTE owns christ cycles. The bikes are only $50 more expensive but have better components than christ cycles. CC will resume building bikes in the spring
* previous comment was more about all the great vintage road bikes being repainted and losing their decals ...i've got a trek District single speed for around town and its allot of fun.
@bpcippant why do you think they die? Lots of vintage bikes are crushed and melted when people throw them out just because the drivetrain and gear parts are worn out. Isn't that worse? Also note that most of these bikes have track ends, meaning they have never been road bikes.
If you're into fixed gears - everyone should check out the new fixed gear hip hop song called The Ride by Memento Mori that I filmed and edited. You can just click on my page to view it. If at least one of you could do that for me it would really mean a lot. Every view counts. Thank you. The Steady Media.
@79317139 1) Most efficient drivetrain 2) Unique control of speed 3) No variable gears failing, freezing up or collecting dirt 4) You stop thinking about gears 5) No need for a rear brake 6) Continuous traction feedback 7) Simple mechanics require less maintenance 8) Less parts needed = less weight to carry around 9) Much more fun.
@nilo2209 thats no advantage.it would be a pain in the ass to ride uphill, gears dont fail unless u have a shitty walmart bike,a real bike costs around 500 n up so dont bitch if u have a cheaper bike, less weight? they sell alluminium road bikes, for example raleighs and specialized make some 600 dollar road bikes that weight less than 20 pounds.obviously u know nothing about bikes.fixies r only good for going to the store but other than that, they r not consider real bikes.
@core6198 is that why so many bike messengers prefer fixies and singlespeeds? I started messengering in 2000 and went fixed in 2006. I destroyed 3 quality derailleurs from 2000-2006 and a countless number of shifters and cables. With gears, problems never seem to end when you ride a lot (50-100 km each day.) It's a complete waste of time and money if you live in a flat city. Hills are no problem when you have clipless pedals. And fuck aluminum, carbon etc. I only trust steel and titanium.
@core6198 oh I should also mention that I have to ride my bike in all weather conditions. Have you ever seen a multispeed drivetrain after 8 hours in mud or snow? I have. It's not nice. Have you tried riding 8 hours on a freezing cold day so your cables freeze up = no shifting gears? I have. It's fucking annoying. A fixie goes on forever in all kinds of weather and it's a bliss to clean when you get home. Simple = better. At least for the shit I do with my bike.
@nilo2209 the only good thing, they are cheaper. thats all. or unless you wana go for a heavy work out then sure, get a fixie and keep going up the same hill over n over again.Well i downhill and trailbike so idk why the hell you would ride a road bike with gears on the mud.but yeah you are right i guess i should stop hating and everyone should ride whatever they enjoy.the thing that got me pist n wondering were those critical mass effect which i would like to know the main point og them.
@core6198 I mentioned 9 advantages and there are more. I don't ride in the mud but 8 hours on the road (and occasionally offroad) on a rainy day will throw a lot of crap into your drivetrain and derailleur. It must be cleaned afterwards and with a road bike that's a pain in the ass if you ask me. With a fixie/SS it's quickly done. I don't understand what you say about critical mass. I have tried almost all bike types. You should too if you like bikes.
@SKYsTHeLiMiTuKNo thanks for the feedback. We hate angled top tubes! our new frames have different geometries with more of a true track geometry. flat top tubes but still just enough rake on the head tube to enable bar spins. our new line is pretty baller my friend.
@cutebikes flat top tubes are enough for me. i dont know about anyone else, but i dont really care much for tricks and stuff on track bikes. as long as its flat, got great geometry, and fixed, i'll love it :D
@SuprHibby of course! vancouver is our biggest customer at the moment. check out the website. shipping to canada is only $75 and there are no duties or customs fees.
Guys, I just started building my first fixie. Can you guys tell me what's best ratio for beginners like me? THANKS!

@core6198 many fixies are converted road bikes, in case you didn't know. And Raleigh is nothing special.

Why are fixed gear bikes even popular? They have no advantage over a multiple speed bike or even a single gear coaster brake bike.
