  • "Do you want to go to heaven, or would you rather not be saved?"....Jeeeeesus, the poetry DRIPS off of this album. I'm going to sound like a geezer, but they just don't make 'em like this any more...

  • @TheRaketmensch No they don't . . . take it from an unabashed geezer . . . a late-blooming fuddy-duddy . . . they just don't.

  • Great songwriter,,,,I agree !! Saw him in the Village in VYC,,,,great performance. I too still listen to them,,,,almost once a week!

  • in zagreb, croatia, there is at least one thousand funs of this amazing writer and the band, but, unfortunately we still wait him to come and make a gig for us.........lojdu dođi, ti to možeš.....!!!

  • met Him last year, made my day! The man is a Legend. Shaped my adolesence.

  • You are right Bert!

  • Met him last year, made not only my year, but my life. He shaped my adolesence.Good on yer Lloyd

  • Is it just my speakers or does this sound terrible?

  • With Perfect Skin, it's my favourite one on Rattlesnakes. I love the chiming guitars and the intuitive melodies on this album!

  • the best track on one of the best albums of the 80's. Nay, of all time. Beautiful, it lives on my ipod.

  • que maravilla de cancion, no me imaginaba que tuviera tan pocos seguidores.

    ¿que es de ellos?.

  • lloyd cole, wire train, echo, joy division, zappa...good 80's

  • From listening to this 20 years go skiing in Ohakune NZ to skiing now in Switzerland, this music is timeless

  • Ah! Back in the day....

Charlotte Street is a state of mind.

I think he still lives in NYC. Met him a couple of times. He has chilled. Top bloke.

    |What a counterfoil these guys were (along with the Smiths and others) to some of the 1980s CRAP.

Now the 80s that was aproper recession.

    Legend

  • I once heard Lloyd suggest it was Charlotte St, Brisbane, Australia way back in 1986... but I'm pretty sure he was joking. "Do you want to go to heaven or would rather not be saved?" The man is a genius.

  • @tinkypoo69 its Charlotte Street in Edinburgh. Nice place.

  • @ironmyshirts it is the charlotte street in america

  • Heard this song as I drove into snowy Manhattan last January, amazing! :)

  • those were the days

  • Just heard this used on Dragons Den. A nice reminder of a good song.

  • thanks so much for posting this underrated gem of a lovely song!

  • A great friend from Minneapolis turned me on to this song in the 80's also. It is a great song of that era, and will always remind me of a great time in my life ... thanks BP.

  • It's Charlotte St., Edinburgh, Scotland.

  • You sure it was Edinburgh? May have been Glasgow, where he went to University.

  • "Anatomy of two lovers-down to dusk"

  • One of the most beautiful songs in the 80s

  • and in all the rest of the decades..

  • quite so, bet..............but surely it's 'charlotte st, bloomsbury, london....at least it alway was to me...because that's where i lived when i was a ucl student in mid 80s....

  • @betogomez and in the rest of the decades

  • This is my all time favourite!!! "What got into me? I don't need your symapthy! I won't read your poetry! Oh BitterSweet!...

    FANTASTIC!!!

  • Top band tremendous song. Oh the eighties were so great

  • Bud, you're so right...this song took me to a place, a time, and a person.

Mulhouland Dr., early 80's, and Christina. Car broke down, beautiful sunset over Malibu and a wonderful girl...we were both scared...you've been there. I was a late teen/twentysomething. What did you become...it would be nice to know.

  • here comes my train

  • This song always reminds me of leaving Minneapolis on a plane....Tom Benz, where are you?

  • Why would it? There's no Charlotte Street in Mpls ... :p

For those of us of a certain vintage (my age) -- isn't it funny how we associate certain songs wsith whomever we were involved with at the time?? This song makes me think of Katie -- a girl I knew in Duluth (MN) in '86.
