flying into a shot of pakistan and flying thru the country into a mosque dome with an islamic clock and a asian rendition of the news at ten theme and on the clock News At Ten in squiggly Urdu lights up underneath the dome with the clock face on 10pm and for the bongs an asian drum sounds with headlines in Urdu being read by an Urdu newsreader. That would be a laugh!!!
I thought the Gulf War started in January 1991? I've got a newspaper bought from a Nottingham newsagent from 10th January 1991, and it says "Last ditch peace talk efforts fail" - "Saddam warns your troops will drown in their own blood".
Wow, I still have the Goonies too on vid which was recorded back in 1991, I've even uploaded the commercial breaks from it onto Youtube, check the vids in my profile.
Loved News at Ten! Thanks man! Back in England, I was a huge ITN fan at that time. used to stay up "late" to watch News at Ten. Sandy was my favourite reader. So laid back and cool, especially for back then, but still a pro.
thanks for putting this up. im glad i saw it again. i used to get scared (nightmares) watching this opening, flying in darkness over london and slamming into big ben. no joke, it gace me the shivers.
This is the weirdest coincedence ever... I have a recording of the exact same news program in full from 3/4/91, although I think it may be from earlier in the day (it was just after they showed "The Goonies" if that helps). Maybe you'd be interested? I can also tell you that this was the same day Graham Greene died.
Yes, me too! I had The Goonies on VHS from way back (1991) and this news clip was on there just after it, unfortunately this clip is all I had, although there is the bit about Graham Greene (that's how I got the date right by Googling the date he died).

I would love to see a send up of the NAT opening;
ITN in three Urdu letters,
flying into a shot of pakistan and flying thru the country into a mosque dome with an islamic clock and a asian rendition of the news at ten theme and on the clock News At Ten in squiggly Urdu lights up underneath the dome with the clock face on 10pm and for the bongs an asian drum sounds with headlines in Urdu being read by an Urdu newsreader. That would be a laugh!!!

Just shows how news presentation has come along way in 16 years lol. I always think that BBC have always been better at the presentation of the news.
