for MigiNoob-FinalCut Pro is more advanced in editing, and is way easier when you learn the material. Where imovie is sort of a playful editing, and it is most of the time just easier. Used more for Middle School kids. Final Cut Pro is used by many HollyWood Films.
There is a huge difference, not to be rude or anything. Final Cut Pro is a professional editing software...to put it mildly. iMovie is a simple press one button and it makes a movie for you. Hollywood films are made using Final Cut Pro.
i have FCPro but i only have one problem...i bought frickin JVC...some of you more avid (no i dont mean the brand name "avid") film editing guys out there probably know what that means... I HATE .TOD AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Final Cut is almost like Adobe. So I don't like them both. I like more Avid Xpress, and sometimes Avid Liquid. But, Avid Xpress it has a more human interface than Adobe and Final Cut, and it's easyer to work in. Anyway, you could use also Vegas Sonic Foundry, or Ulead for editing and creating DVD's. And not forget about Windows Movie Maker :)))) The idea is that if you have imagination you could use any editing software. Use what you like!
I use FCPro but am having trouble creating good quality DVD's. Have tried many formats and compressions, incl. uncompressed. Am using a G5, (Mac OS X, version 10.3.9.) and use an external DVD burner that runs on Toast. While all looks great on FCPro, once exported to Quicktime, the lines and edges etc look jagged. The uncompressed 10bit videos look clearer and crisper, but have fine horizontal lines throughout the frames. Any advise appreciated!

Avid is a much better product. I have used both for years and I find the Avid much more of an easier work flow. FCP has alot of glitzy things but when you mature as an editor you use very little effects and concentrate on the storytelling. Plus for you students who really want to work as a pro editor in Hollywood FCP is not used in the giant POST houses. Learn both and you can work at any end of the spectrum but your FCP jobs will be lower end. Plus Macs crash all the time.
I have a Mac and it's never crashed. As for you trash talking FCP - I guess David Fincher should have been notified before he edited Zodiac on it. Or Anthony Minghella when he cut Cold Mountain on it? Or Zack Snyder when he had 300 cut on it. Or the MANY MANY other professionals cutting high budget movies on the system. Please know what you're talking about when you post.
They used FCP to cut offline in the field. After each scene shot they would do a rough cut on a laptop with FCP. They would transfer the list to a AvID adrendaline to do the final cut which could be from high definition video or a 35mm film transfer. Many student movies and extreme low budgets are cut with HDV on FCP. Remember big post houses have millions invested in Avid and they are not going to get rid of them until they pay themselves off.
"Macs crash all the time?" I have seen around 500 PCs that crash for every mac that crashes! and that was because someone spilled coka cola on it; Otherwise, the ratio would had been 10^12:1
As much as this isn't a place for this type of discussion, I'd just like to chime in on the fact that the sh*t's basically all the same, and I've definitely had Macs and PCs crash by similar ratios. It's just a freakin' brand name people! Gotta pull your heads outta the muck! This is like a bunch of 'tards arguing over Ford vs Chevy. Anyway, good tutorial - that's what we're here for right?
That was pretty smooth HD playback considering u were also screen capturing!
What kind of mac do u use?
I'm thinking of getting the new iMac 20" 2.4 ghz core 2 duo.. with 1 gb of ram (i will be upgrading the ram with some off the shelve rather than pay 400 for apple to do it)..
hey ya i also used to use avid. i used liquid edition 7. but the power if final cut is much more especially in the studio pack. but i must say i wish final C Studio had the user friendly avid style. beacsue AVID is definately the easiest program to use
if you know a way to export full 1080i HD video using Export>Quicktime Conversion....it seems I may loose a little something there.....Compressor is fabulous, but I only use that to export an entire project, not single clips.
final cut pro needs mac pro.. why u have tutorial saying almost nothing about editing.. you should have made more complex tutorial... Im gonna buy it when I get mac pro
To finish the previous: If you have the money for a Pro, by all means: but if don't have $3,000 to throw around, get yourself an iMac: they run for great prices!
Also, the student discount for final cut studio is amazing. $699 directly from Apple! It was only $499 at the University of Alabama supply store!
Would love to see such tutorials. I'm a Mac-head running FCExpress (and SnapzProX, way to go!) and just fumbling along myself. Would love some tips from a fellow YouTuber. Lots of people on here talk about the PC applications, we Mac-heads need our fair share. Thanks! (P.S. tips on how to optimize FCPro export for YouTube would be great)
It's a cute pro better than CakeWalk Sonar, i'd like to learn one of them i have a keyboard , and electric guitar and i'd like to record to play piano, and after hear what i recorded and after record guitar by myself and finaly voice.
I use Premiere and Final Cut Pro, and they are very similar. Final Cut Pro is a lot quicker than Premiere, but it is a little harder to get used to. I mainly use macs now so i would say Final Cut Pro is my favorite, but they are both awesome programmes.
You know what? While I still am a FCP user, I started with Adobe Premiere Pro, and I respect the software. PCs suck for video, but that is good software. A lot of folks hate on it, but Adobe is good. PREMIERE sucked, but Premiere Pro is great.
how do you get full screen in fce

The entire Final Cut Studio 2 runs smoothly on intel iMacs - the older, white ones and the new aluminum ones. It also works very well with a G5.
A Mac Pro is completely unecessary. It would be nice to have, but its like having the biggest cinema display: nice, but not really required.
