Mike was SO pitch perfect that most of the BAD tour was live. You could hear the LIVE rawness in his voice...the different gasps and alternative hiccups than that of the record.

Not like now a days where someone like Rihanna will specially record different vocals to mime to for a 'live' show (Music Awards)..but with live backing and band.

A lot of the time on the Dangerous tour he was suffering wisdom & molar toothache. He took painkillers for that. Miming to a DAT tape came in Handy. Of course then there was revisionary scalp surgery for his scalp burn in 93'...and possibly flair-ups of his Lupus. He probably had to do whatever the insurance company (Lloyds) wanted him to do to keep the shows high octane and to cancel less.

I'd rather he lip-synched some of the parts of concerts to keep his voice and put less stress on his lungs. Remember his insomnia? Part of it was performance insomnia (a high of adrenaline you get doing tours). You often can't sleep for 24hours. That coupled with the chronic insomnia he had with Lupus...less REAL singing along with the dancing helped him pull off the 2hour long shows. But Seth Riggs says MJ could SPIN & sing at the same time. I always remember him saying that. :)

MJ does lip synch. But only on Dangerous and HIStory tours & even then for only a portion of the shows. The shows went from 1hr 30 mins to over 2 hours, often 80-90 dates per tour. You'd wreck ur voice permanently. I remember health scares at the end of BAD tour MJ's doc said MJ wud've died from a heart attack if he'd over done it even more.. Looking back it was MJ's lungs (pleurisy/Lupus) that were giving him grief. Keep than in mind when in the future they cut back some of the live stuff.

Omg, people here are idiots, like arnakava saying he started lipsynching in 93 on Superbowl. That's not the truth at all. He lipsynched on Dangerous tour too, like half of the songs, much because he had lupus that effect his lungs (thats why he rarely sang live on history tour). and the superbowl thing is because there were 100 millions watching live, the year could have been 83 and he still wouldn't have been singing live. Just like Motown25, it's too much of a risc. People, use your brains.

now michael jackson didnt lipsync through these times, but he does lipsnyc, either it is he is sick, his throat hurts or he is dancing and trying to keep up with the song (singing wise) every1 knows singing and dancing at the same time can be hard and tiring, but michael perfected it. and gave us the illusion of lip snycing. one of the greatest artists of all time. hell, the best artist of all time. the way you make me feel and smooth criminalwere lip[ synced in all bad concerts except the madison square garden one where he sang them both 100% live i have rare audio from that concert and beleive me its 100% live. aprt from thqt all other concerts in bad as far as i know the way you make me feel and smooth criminal were lip synced. still those to songs have some of the best choreography and energetic dance routines so it doesnt really matter. there is only so much 1 man can do on stage

On the Bad Tour he sang playback all the new songs from the Bad album except for Another Part Of Me & I Just Can't Stop Loving You the one thing. But the songs he did use playback on were up to a certain point, right after he would sing live For example on Yokohama 87 he sang Bad completely live, but on wembley 88 he did playback up until the last part, you see when Mike signals the band to turn his mic on but nonetheless that was a hell of a concert tour

Yeah, i forgot to mention that one. Dirty Diana was completely live but Bad was live on the first leg, cause on the second leg it was playback up until a little bit before the end. Just watch Bad from the yokohama concert in 87 & bad from wembley 1988. But it doesn't really matter, we all know he could sing very much live & he could rock the stage like no one else will ever do.

Atcully All the songs including Bad except for Man In The Mirror was completley live The American Leg of the tour. You can hear it on the New York Amature reccording and i have sources who attended some of the american leg concerts who can confirm that all of the songs was indeed live.
