@MrBenicia707 The reason you hear compressor surge is because they want to eliminate lag as much as possible, and a blow off valve adds lag by releasing the air from the piping. No BOV keeps more air in the piping, and therefor reduces lag.
@HachiZenki renesis is the 13b in the rx8. It maybe more complicated then this but from what i've noticed b just means fuel injected and 13 means 1.3 displacement

I've owned an S14, S15, STI 06, Evo 9, and now an '02 FD3S RX7. The RX7 is definitely the most exciting and fun. its stock and does 4.8 to 100km/h! and its handling with the coilovers i had fitted is amazing. the FD3S chassis is something to truly behold. SO componsed. so perfect.
i'm not sure how to ask this question...but what kind of engineering do you need to build these kind of cars. what would i go to college for if i wanted to end up in that business? mechanical engineering?
@gtrtalon45 mechanical engineering would be a good choice. I studies computer science, but always worked on old cars so I have an understanding of how the electronics work, but also the mechanical. You don't need a degree, just have a passion and be willing to learn. Helps to find like minded individuals etc..
@mannyc3 That phenomenon is called "compressor surge" and happens because there is actually no BOV. The pressurised air has nowhere to go when the throttle plates close, so it has to go backwards through the input turbine. But I agree it DOES sound good :)
All that said though they did a very good job with that car. They just need more seat time to tune it better for that track. I think this car is probably setup for cirtcuit racing and high way driving. On a track like fuji speedway this thing would be an animal. On this tight tcourse though its just way too much car for it.
It has too much power for that road and the suspension seems too stiff. If i were doing this i'd detune it abit and soften the springs a little to make the car easier to drive.

RX-7s already come stock with twin turbos. The rotary engine is one of the most brilliantly designed engines. It's well-balanced and produces much more power than a 4 cylinder given the size of its displacement.
A popular engine swap with RX-7s is the LS-1, which is a V-8. I'm not a big fan of this, but it does add a ton torque. But nobody in their right mind would swap out a rotary for a turbocharged 4 banger.

Moreover, the displacement of a stock FD is 1.3 L. Compare that to a shitty 1.6 L B16 engine. The potential for a rotary is much greater.

@Greenhornet84 Thats compressor surge. Regardless of what you have read in magazines or heard on youtube, WASTEGATE "CHATTER" is not the wastegate at all. Wastegates will never make any sound other then the sound of exhaust being dumped. Thats it. The fluttering you hear is from a BOV that has too tight a spring, so it isn't opening fast enough or large enough to be able to dump the excess air when the throttle closes. The fluttering is air exiting and slowing the turbo abruptly.

@narungga well just be sure that the chassis isnt rotted and the engine, whether or not it was swapped, is in good condition. if you ask me, it sounds like the owner took great care of it and knows its value. the average price for one of those beauties is 12 G's.... but hey rotary's are worth it!
@narungga Test the compression before you buy it. Mazda rotaries need to be looked after. Oil needs changing very regularly, so find out as much as you can about how it's been serviced. The engines need rebuilding pretty regularly which doesn't come cheap, so the better it's been cared for the less it will cost you in the long term

i own an s2k but the rx7,twin turbo 300zx and supras from the 90's destroyed everything that lined up next to them back in the days and most of today as well. unfortunately they were all discontinued due to people buying cars for practical purposes instead of pure fun and adrenaline. In todays world the supras gone, theres an all motor 370 z which is still pretty good but nothing like the twin turbo and the rx8 is a total fail while toyota focuses on family sedans and wagons for fun lol.
@rosario717 yeah i hear ya, i got a Z32TT and its still my fav car. Even being 17 yrs old, its still a hard running machine albeit I do have work done to it. New turbos, Stillen Intercoolers, Forged pistons/rods, studed block and heads, down pipes, Labree Resonated H-pipe. It still a very sexy car even after 17 years =)
@keeevan No. The car is built for power and responsiveness and the issue of compressor surge is ignored. People forget that BOV didn't used to exist and turbo charged cars just....spun backwards...Its really not as big of a deal as people portray. As an example the ESi-R Starion by Mitsubishi.

@ramasart10 i might be buying a twin turbo rx7 for 18k but it seems to good to be true... what should i look out for buying something so cheap?????

@narungga well just be sure that the chassis isnt rotted and the engine, whether or not it was swapped, is in good condition. if you ask me, it sounds like the owner took great care of it and knows its value. the average price for one of those beauties is 12 G's.... but hey rotary's are worth it!

@narungga Test the compression before you buy it. Mazda rotaries need to be looked after. Oil needs changing very regularly, so find out as much as you can about how it's been serviced. The engines need rebuilding pretty regularly which doesn't come cheap, so the better it's been cared for the less it will cost you in the long term

not a huge fan of rx 7 (not saying they r bad) but this rx 7 looks bad ass and appears to be well tuned. right amount of power to cornering ability.

Ignorant people will make a rice comment about this. The driver is very good and is very brave. All the trees and just a wire fence for protection. I would not drive that fast on such a small road with no protection barrier.

i own an s2k but the rx7,twin turbo 300zx and supras from the 90's destroyed everything that lined up next to them back in the days and most of today as well. unfortunately they were all discontinued due to people buying cars for practical purposes instead of pure fun and adrenaline. In todays world the supras gone, theres an all motor 370 z which is still pretty good but nothing like the twin turbo and the rx8 is a total fail while toyota focuses on family sedans and wagons for fun lol.

@rosario717 yeah i hear ya, i got a Z32TT and its still my fav car. Even being 17 yrs old, its still a hard running machine albeit I do have work done to it. New turbos, Stillen Intercoolers, Forged pistons/rods, studed block and heads, down pipes, Labree Resonated H-pipe. It still a very sexy car even after 17 years =)

@keeevan No. The car is built for power and responsiveness and the issue of compressor surge is ignored. People forget that BOV didn't used to exist and turbo charged cars just....spun backwards...Its really not as big of a deal as people portray. As an example the ESi-R Starion by Mitsubishi.
