Oh how i LOVE this scene , Mildred Natwick is so wonderful she has that classic line ...
If i had known the people on the third floor ,i would have stopped to visit them .
and Gorgeous Robert Redford along with the great Jane Fonda made for a memorable movie --(Robert and Jane reunited for The Electric Horseman-good chemistry )
@ijustlovetea Redford is more beautiful than Brad Pitt...plus he is brilliant, witty & an Academy award winning director for 1980's "Ordinary People."
Wow...At 3:06, if you notice, when the door is opened, the mother is just standing there waiting for the door to open, when we're supposed to believe she is out of breath and exhausted. What a lousy edit.
I can't seem to find the scene on here, but I'll take your word for it. That's really weird. *scratches head* You'd think they'd at least use a different take for each flight. They'd have to be really pressed for time to only take one!
A person can be standing there and still be out of breath; you don't have to have just gotten there to be out of breath. Remember, she's old it make take a while for her to catch it.
It has nothing to do with the edit. That would be an actor/director's mistake. (And to a lesser extent, the cinematographer) But, I don't think it's that noticable. She only hesitates for a fraction of a second and she's positioned a ways down the hall. I had to watch it a couple of times before I knew what you were talking about. I doubt I would've thought anything of it just watching the film.
I saw this in the cinema during it's release. The kissing is just fantastic--the first twenty minutes of it has really hot making out with great-looking people at their peak. It's the least funny Neil Simon filmed comedy..probably because it's hard to laugh when you're turned on.
mildred natwick è grandiosa!!!

Fonda: "Oh, I knew you'd hate it, it's not your kind of apartment!"
Natwick: "I love it! Paul! I said love it!"
Redford (to Fonda): "She said she loved it..."
Natwick (to no one in particular): "I knew I'd said it!" LOL

Thank you for uploading this scene! Every single line is wonderful and Mildred Natwick was a National Treasure of an actress!
"I know dear, it's not bad really... what is it, nine flights?"

I even think that Robert Redford was even more good looking so the level was even higher than Brad Pitt.

I see what you mean. It doesn't make it any less of a good movie though. Every movie has its glitches. It's not a perfect science. Yet.

and the first time jane fonda is shown climbing those stairs, you can see that it's the same scene over and over again cuz the floor is cracked
metaldesire4 3 years ago
I'd have to watch the scene again, but, I think you mean they used the same set.
It seems pretty pointless to rerun the same scene over and over again since they would've done multiple takes of it anyway.
SwiftFoxProductions 2 years ago
no, it is exactly the same scene over and over again. just watch it; first time she climbs'em
