  • great video xD i learned it in about 5 minutes.

  • Left or Right hand??

  • @Msawesomehannah It doesn't matter, you should use your left hand if you are left handed and right if you are right handed.

  • Um, was I the only one that noticed that she said "N" is for GNAT?! I would think someone teaching young, hearing impaired children would try harder not to confuse them....

  • @trewlove77 I'm sorry to hear you were confused. There is a picture of a 'NET' to accompany the song.

  • @trewlove77, the picture shows a net you dipstick

  • thought there would be more eh's

  • I never noticed she sand "zed", I didn't even know that they said it that way either...

  • An extreamly great help :). thank you.

  • Americans are the only people who say "Zee", so "Zed" really isn't that strange. And will anyone ever think of another word that begins with X, or are we doomed to learn the letter through the use of such a Bizarre instrument.

  • @6maxinator9 Xenolith, which means a fragment of a rock embedded inside another rock.

  • @6maxinator9 For a child's song I guess there aren't any other words beginning with X that mean something to them. The second most understood word beginning with X would be X-ray, and little kids don't really know yet what that is, I believe. So unless it's going to be "Sign ABC Song for Physicists" I think sticking on "xylophone" is the best to do.

  • I love this but pleeease make an Auslan version :D

  • i was wondering cuz i was trying to learn how to do sign Language and im in Canada and i just fond out that it was asl that i was trying to learn

so can i use asl in Canada with out it being wrong????

  • @dwighthm yes but there are some regional differences of signs.

  • This is so cute! :D

  • My 17 month old loves this video, thanks for sharing it, and including a Canadian version :)

  • love it...Im teaching my baby and 5yr old..

  • i love the Canadian way of saying z

  • Zed?

  • @MrJaymation that is how people say the letter Z in Canada, England, Australia and many other English countries. That's why I made two versions, on that sings Zee (the US version) and one that sings Zed (the Canadian, UK, Australian etc version)

  • Best part 1:32 zed =)

  • @yaddleskidaddle Hell yea soo easy

  • haha zed

  • wow!

  • wow! i like her. i have 2 childs . i will teach them

  • I am from europe - austria - and started learning sign language 1 year ago... this is very nice, i am going to show it to my teacher... i am sure this will help people who just started learning ögs (austrian sign language)...

to answer the question of cutthroooat... everythin similar here in austria exept the T - in austria it looks like a G with the (top of the ) thump up close to the forefinger

  • I don't know why this is "for kids". I'm 29, and this has been a huge help. I tried to vote for you, but I got a message saying "Voting for the 2010 SavvyMom Mom Entrepreneur of the Year is now closed.".

I'm from Europe though, so I'm wondering if a deaf European person would understand this.

I ran into a lovely deaf person this weekend, and it made me wish I could have at least introduced myself and said "Nice to meet you" and stuff like that. Next time this happens, I'll be prepared! :-)

  • @cutthroooat Thanks for trying to vote :)

    Yes, it's closed now.

Where in Europe are you from? They probably use a different sign language and different alphabet. For example, in the UK they use BSL (British Sign Language)

  • @SmartHandsCA Thank you very much for your quick reply!

I'm from Luxembourg, a country that is smaller than Rhode Island, with a population of roughly 500.000 people. So I'm guessing we don't have our own SL. Do you know if there's a map or an index somewhere where I could find out where they use what?

Thanks for the video and the info - it's a nice reminder that youtube can be pretty useful! :-)

  • @cutthroooat good question! I don't know of a map or anything like that. I would love to know though :)

  • lmao, i only saw 2 differences, the canidian quarter, nd zed instead of z

  • @rawrchristinaj yes, those are the only two differences :) It was specifically made for the 'zed' we sing 'zed' in Canada and it is hard to find songs that don't say zee :)

  • @SmartHandsCA ohh(:

  • I don't know why I can hear only 1 side

  • is this all done with your left hand?

  • @rustyrobot20 I did this with my right hand. If you are left handed you should use your left hand and if you are right handed, use your right.

  • is this all done with your left hand?

  • its the same thing as ASL

  • @zeelelynn yes except in Canada we sing or say zed instead of zee :-)

  • wen a song is catchy or somewhat, i can't get it out of my head! but this is a good video...tnx

  • i don't understand why americans say zee, its been zed ever since english was a language, why did america change it?

  • @richardsonl91 I am a well read, clever, witty, American 22 year old (next week) and I JUST found out about "zed." I am currently freaking out. I feel like I've been living in the Matrix. You'll understand if during this time in the aftermath of the trauma I ANGRILY reject "zed."

  • I thought for the letter P you touched your thumb and your middle finger, not your thumb and your index finger.

  • @JustThatKindOfGirl95 yes, it is on your middle finger.

  • @SmartHandsCA I was just wondering because in the video it looks like the thumb is pointing to the index finger.

  • Was going to ask what the difference is between Canadian sign and American but seems it's just the hearing pronunciation and not really the actual signs? GREAT video!!!!

  • how does ALS differ form CSL i just watched both? BSL is different though right?

  • @eaglesgogirl it's jest we say zed vs zee for the letter Z :-)

  • @eaglesgogirl

    BSL is very different. C=

  • great!!! i love this video,i'm mexican,but i'm learning mexican signs..

    CONGRATULATIOSNS and good luck !!!

  • This program is great I am a daughter of deaf perents and I use this program to train my 2 year old brother and he always sings along and do the sings that you put up.......Thank you so much.....you made a big difference in my brother's brain haha

  • This is brilliant, I'm learning BSL at the moment but wanted to learn the ASL alphabet to see how different it was (and in case I ever needed to fingerspell anything over in America, so this was very helpful thankyou!! And....now I can't get the song out of my head haha.

  • my baby and I are mexicans and Im teaching her to be bilingual and singing has helped us a lot! thanks!

  • thank you my daughter is learning sign language because of you . its a great way to teach children.

  • Wow wow wow wow....wow zed? ZED?....lucky all we get is z and about u guys gettin zed and aboot.......

  • SmarHands CA

my son loves this. He is autistic, he is four years old. The only thing is we live in australia and they sign language differently. But there is nothing like this, a song as such for our sign. I wish there was. T hanks sooooo much for putting this up for him.

  • Thanks :-) It's nice to hear!

If you find a link showing the AUSLAN sign language email it to me and I'll try to make a video with those hand shapes for your son with this song! In Australia do they say Zed or Zee?

    :-)

    Laura

  • Whenever I visit the USA and I say "Zed" instead of "Zay" or something I'm always called on it. My spelling, too. I saw my little brother, Avery who's almost 5 with mum.

It was stuck in his head for days. :D

  • The letter Z is always pronounced as "Zed" in English speaking countries such as the UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

English originates from England where the letter Z is officially pronounced as "Zed".

So it is not that Canada is trying to be unique. It is the correct way to pronounced it in English.

    BTW, I'm not Canadian.

  • i am canadian and i say zee my la teacher always gets pissed at me when i say zee

  • @eindunklesbier thanks for the info, clears up alot of the confusions

  • i watched this just to hear them say zed hehehe

  • i never knew canadians said zed instead of z!!!!

ohmygoodness! and now i know. :) thanks!

  • @Ninjaluvr12 So do people in all other English-speaking countries such as England, Australia, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, New Zealand, etc. :)

  • i can do it yyeaaaah i 'm so proud of me yeah thank you !

  • It's different color(colour).In american version it's green & in canadian version it's yellow

  • Thanks for maing the Canadian version. Keep up the good work.

  • why did you need to make a canadian version? was it really just for zed? lmao i thought it was gonna be completely different hahaha

  • Yes, it's really just for 'zed' and the Canadian quarter. It's just hard to find ABC songs that say zed instead of zee so I wanted to make sure to offer something that can be used in Canadian schools as well (which it has been)

    :-)

  • Je pensais qu'il la version canadienne sera bilangue :P

I'm just teasing. Although American, I like the version with the 'zed'. And the quarter with the Queen is a double hit for the letter Q :)

  • i really don't like the canadian zed and i really don't know why it's like that all the other letters rime exept zed it screws the whole thing up!

  • not really i think it sounds fine then again im canadian. u don't like it like how we say out its just the way it is.

  • When i hear this i like to follow the hand

  • i love it

  • I'm 18 years old and trying to learn sign language. This honestly has helped out a lot! Even if it is for young children =P

  • signing is a great way to communicate with babies and kids that don't really talk yet. I know the intended purpose of the language though. My son has been signing since he was 7 months old. He gets better and better it's awesome! They pick it up fairly fast to. Thanks!

  • I have been using your lessons to teach my son who is 18 months. He loves it and my older kids ages 5 and 7 love to sign as well. We have our own language when we go out..lol

  • Thanks for posting this, I love hearing people's stories!

  • Oh! la la

    beautiful song

    T|TO

  • the difference between canadian and american is the z listen to how they say it...

  • my daughter noticed that before I did. lol They say Zed..lol

  • whats the difference between canadian or american sign language ? O___O"

  • They are basically the same with a few regional differences. The reason there are two songs with a Canadian and American version is because we say 'zed' for z in Canada and the pictures of the quarters are Canadian. Sometimes it's hard to find songs that sing 'zed' so I wanted to make sure there were two versions available! :-)

  • ohhhhh. lol ^^

  • nice song.

  • Thank you so much for posting this video! It has helped me alot and was very easy to learn! I am taking classses to learn sign language in september and this has helped me get a head start! Thank you again!

  • Thank you for your comment, it's so nice to hear that it is helping people learn :-)

    Laura

  • love that you have a Canadian version ... with a canadian quarter ... thanx

  • You have so much same abc sings than us have, but some looks more difficult to do than ours. :D Now I will learn your ones with this. Thanks.

  • hey, who sang this, its quite well done

  • Thank you :-) My husband is a musician/music producer so we have tons of friends who sing. This is actually a teacher that works at my school. I wrote the song and my husband wrote the music.

    Thanks again!

  • very nice!!!

    ^__^

  • this is great! =)
