Not sure how often you check these comments. but as far as helmets the price really doesnt say much. In America the back of the helmets will say "DOT Approved" which means the helmet can take multiple impacts before the helmet will not protect you during a crash. so in other words you can get hit in the side of the head with a baseball bat maybe 3 times instead of just once before you get knocked the F**k out. hope that makes sense. look it up online and share with viewers LIVES CAN BE SAVED!!!

He's right you know. No matter the price of a helmet, if it's got the SNELL or DOT sticker on the back then that's it, it's a safe helmet. If you don't believe me then google this article:

Good choice on the Shark, I have a RSR2.

But about the differences, you should refer people to the new SHARP rating by the UK gov. The Arai and Shoeis performed surprisingly bad for their price.

You need to come to HK to shop for your Dainese gear, for some reason they're cheaper here.

Actually, Taiwan's surprisingly like Japan where most of the average joes doesn't understand a lick of English. That's different though if you go to more affluent neighbourhoods where you get more "returnees" or people who were educated overseas.

Coming from the other side, I love people's faces when they see that an asian in Asia can also actually be Canadian and speak English just as well.

@TheAldo18 Theoretically, perforated leather jackets will be slightly less protective than flat leather because of very minor abrasion inferiorities and will have a slightly more grip factor that can cause your body to roll instead of a safer slide. But it's such a slight difference that it's trivial. Perforated leather is usually the one of choice because it is so mush more comfortable (and more expensive). if you mean mesh jackets, I'd avoid them. Also, Dainese is a great brand.

A super expensive helmet are equally as safe as a super cheap helmet....no way! Arai, Shark, Shoei, Suomy or AGV. If you want quality then you MUST pay for it. You only get one chance to save your head. Don't get "whatever you think is cool" - Do Not Listen To This Crap. Make sure it fits properly and makes sure it's excellent quality.

You are wrong man. It's been tested. The ran a whole series of tests on a bunch of brands. Some of the top names "Arai Shoei...etc" proved to be less safe than a 50 dollar helmet. And when a biker magazine reported this one of those big names pulled all their advertising from the magazine.

@13mordeth It's not quite so clear cut. The test standards that dictate a minimum safety standard are a rough maximum too. Most manufacturers design and build to meet or slightly excel the standard but that's it.

However, material quality does have an impact.

I believe it's called the SHARP test, but I've seen videos of the tests that show not all helmets are equal in safety.

That said, in places with standards, they should all be close to the minimum.

Main difference IS weight and comfort tho.

The difference between cheap and expensive helmets isn't the protection they give. It has more to do with the luxury and comfort. So more expensive helmets will be lighter, more comfortable, have a pinlock visor etc. Things like that make the difference between expensive and cheap. And maybe the protection could be different, but i guess the difference isn't that big.
