6} its a free trial imo the best out there ..compared to GWs that has like 9 hours of free trial.
I started lotro this summer , and man i love it and the community is GREAT! Absolutely great! Mature and helpful and very kind not like the shitty wow community! Lotro is my absolute favour Game.
:) I've been playing this game for 2 months already and I wuv it ^_^ I am already VIP and working on getting my hobbit guardian to level 20 and having my alt (level 26) on hold for a few days. I plan on getting the MoM expansion once I get enough TPs, also North Downs and Evendim. . The only thing I'd change about LotRO, is that there would be a settting to be afk and nothing can attack you. I've died too many times while afk.
I'm really sorry if I sound kinda noobish asking this, but is this game kinda like Wizard101 in any way? Other than them both being an MMORPG. I have a few friends ( like those at liquidlotro(dot)libsyn(dot)com/webpage ) who play lotro and they keep telling me about realms? What do they mean by that and do I have to play on a specific one to be with them or is the choice completely randomized and interchangeable like Wizard101?
@prankpatrol89 In LOTRO, realms are called servers, and no they are not interconnected with each other. You'll have to find which one your friends play on and make a character there to play with them.
@BellusScormus Oh. I found that out kinda in the past few days. XP I made a character on Landroval and I can't play with my friend. I found some friends on that server though.
@BellusScormus i played wizard 101 for a long time and look in wizard 101 the friend sistem is much much better, and so is the chat, but battles well i must say suck.
@Marasg89 Well, you are welcome to your opinion. I found EQ2 to be significantly worse than LOTRO, personally. Now as for community, LOTRO's has suffered some since F2P, but overall I stand by my assertion that most people in LOTRO are cool folks.
@Marasg89 Well that is your opinion . Many Many others think that this game is better than the most online games :) but I will not ignorer you in any way :) You have the rights to say what you mean :) but i think LOTRO is a great game, and the best online game ever :) Good day :)
@gamerboy0770 In my opinion Warden is the best class, but two problems with that. 1) It's a Premium class (you have to buy it from the Store or buy the Mines of Moria expansion to get it), and 2) Not everyone is into melee classes. My suggestion is to spend some time reading the different character types during creation and pick one and try it out. As for what gear is best to start out with, you'll have to elaborate on what you mean by that.
@BellusScormus damn im a champ and im not as new as most of the players watching this and i still need help getting my levels up its so slow i made a champion is that good for anything? hes level 12 (im working on the level) and i level slow
@TheBuckyHD Champs are awesome for melee DPS, and a lot of fun, but I find them a bit squishy for my tastes. But they are a popular class. As for leveling, don't worry about how fast you are. My wife's been playing since last July, and her Hunter is level 35. Now that's slow leveling!
The community in my world has become crud since F2P launched. Lots of really immature kids. The worst part is my kinship recruited a ton of new players who are antisocial jerks (ie they get mad any time you ask for something). It's scary to think about, but my friend's WoW guild currently has a more mature player base than my LOTRO kinship. It's not just the kin, though. All the channels, including the global channel, are now overrun by kids who cuss you out whenever you ask for something.
@ntr11023 Really? What server are you on? I haven't seen any major changes such as you describe, other than when the initial crush of new players came in. Eventually most of the Trolls left, due to boredom I expect (at least on Arkenstone). As for your kinship issues, I'd take them up with your Kinship leader, maybe they can weed out the worst of the lot. No need playing with folks who are jerks.
I am on the server "Landroval". The trolls mostly inhabit the low-level areas, but they have discovered the global channel. Therefore, level 10 trolls will troll you even in Enedwaith. No point in blocking them because there's just too many. I could take issue with my kin leader, but I'm planning on just starting my own Kinship in a couple weeks since 7/9 people on in the morning are jerks. You just simply can't enjoy the game when you have trolls bothering you all day.
@TheRookie121 look at your van/cooler. see if its clean. when you play lotro, does ur pc get really warm? if so, you should clean it:P if there is a alert that actually says your game crashes, you should go to the tech support forums I suppose
@TheRookie121 My laptop was doing that for several games, and i found that i had to update my display drivers and it solved all of that freeze up and pc shut down. It may be what you need. Go to your pc or laptop manufacturers website or google it etc and get your display driver updated. may be the problem.
@shortypimpo101 Thanks for offering your services to help out new players, Shorty. I've tried helping out as I can, but my time in LOTRO is getting very limited lately.
@shortypimpo101 Oh, I didn't mean I was quitting gaming or my shows, just that I haven't been able to play much of late, let alone offer help or advice in-game.
@Margalus89 If I remember right, it is level 18+, and in three sections. You can't access the third section until you have completed an objective in the others. Also, it is a Scaling dungeon, so you can set the dungeon to match you level (from 18 to level cap), to face level-appropriate dangers and receive awards commensurate to your level.
@Margalus89 Just a few right now, but more will be coming. From what Turbine has said previously, their intention is to convert all instances and raids to be scaling, from the first level they are normally able to be entered to level-cap (for example, Fornost might be from level 40-ish to 65, maybe). But converting these instances takes time, so expect them to be slowly converted in small groups over the next year or so.
@Margalus89 Not really, but we are getting new instances and a raid early next year, so there is new content coming along with the revamped old instances. How is revamping the old instances and raids to scaling ones a good thing? It means no instance or raid is ever outdated. It means all instances will be "endgame" content. Players loved the Rift raid, and have asked for years for it to be revamped for use at endgame. Now this is becoming a reality, which is great for everyone.
@BellusScormus yep i just meant that i hoped they were working on brand new content. Anyway revamped dungeons ARE new content in a certain way so it's a great add to the game. Thanks for all the answers, starting to play on Laurelin today :)
@MaxtonBarnhart First off, are you a Free player? If so, I believe you can only have two characters per server, three if you have gone Premium (by buying points for cash in the Store, for example). If you try to make more characters than you are allowed by your account type, it won't work.
@micaelmorais Not sure how to answer that... Yes? Depends on if you laughed? Actually, I think I'm a podcaster who discusses issues in MMORPGs and provides tips for players of those games, using characters to "speak" through.
Is your caps-lock key stuck on? Are you incapable of spelling simple words such as "you"? Do you not understand the proper use of punctuation?
ok im basically stuck at the lone lands because i cant do any quests there except the story ones and the first one i recieved from that dude to kill orcs is hard because i cant find any. can somebody help, if not im bascially dont with the game.
@bloodyboy435 I understand your frustration, but there are plenty of Orcs to kill in the Lone Lands, you just need to know where to look. There are a couple of camps around Weathertop (to the north of it, I believe) that are chock full of Orcs, also try ti ruins in the north of Nain Enidh. There are also lots of Orcs in the east end of LL, but unless you have leveled up a lot, I'd stick with the other options.
hey there. i started playing when it became f2p and stopped for a hile. im a lvl 17, but i just started again. i just want to know what these skirmish camps are and what their is for pvp options? thanks
@colorsaredumb Skirmish camps are for the Skirmishes, which are repeatable, scaling instances you can do starting at level 20. You also build up a Skirmish Soldier pet, which is only usable in the Skirmishes and the Housing instances (for dueling). They are fun, and you can get some nice rewards that way.
@colorsaredumb As for PvP, that is a VIP (subscriber) only activity, I'm afraid. LOTRO has PvMP (Player vs Monster-Player), sequestered away in one zone (The Ettenmoors). VIPs can enter with a regular character at level 40, or make a Monster-Player character for use only in the 'Moors at level 10.
@TheDIOrules As I understand it, if you can find an old copy of "Shadows of Angmar" or a copy of the expansion "Mines of Moria", they come with a free 30 days of VIP access. If you choose to remain a VIP after that, you have to pay a subscription fee. If not, you are automatically a Premium player, who pay no subscription but get a few benefits over regular Free players.
@BellusScormus hey...what do you think about elf hunter is it any good for a hmmm kinda begginer..i played a lot of mmorpg games like wow,GW and RF so i rly need an oppinion from a lotro expert!?
@ForgivenTruth Well, first of all, I'm no LOTRO expert. I'm just some jerk sharing my opinion in the Intertubes. That said though, my wife is absolutely new to LOTRO, very inexperienced with MMOs in general, and she's having a great time with her Elf Hunter. I haven't played that combination myself (I prefer Hobbits and Men), but if I recall Elves have several racial advantages that help with being a Hunter, so it seems like it would be a great combination.
@BellusScormus Hey heres few questions that would rly help me ingame so...is hobbit burgler good choice for a beginner, what proffesion should i pick if i play that class and is there any dungeon finder system in lotro game?
1) The Burglar is somewhat complicated, so unless you are an experienced MMORPG player from other games, I'd advise against it as a first character.
2) Your crafting profession really depends upon what your goals for the character's crafting are. If you want make money and your own armor, go with Explorer. To make your own weapons, I'd suggest Armsman. For jewelry, Tinker.
3) There isn't a Dungeon Finder tool like in WoW, but the "Instance Join" tool is still pretty good.
@Kilhson Well, from your previous question regarding playing a Hobbit Burglar, I'm guessing you are looking for a WoW Rogue-like character? If so, try playing a Race of Man Champion. Yes, it's a warrior type of class, but it is the premier melee DPS class, easy to play for a new player, and will help you get a feel for LOTRO better than struggling with a more difficult class.
@BellusScormus my only critique would be that the cake was not a lie ,the fact that they were going to share it was the lie :P lol otherwise funny video and helpful
@AriesL2 If you already own the "Mines of Moria" expansion, or are willing to buy the class from the LOTRO Store, go with a Rune-Keeper. That's the closest thing to a classic Mage in the game, plus it has the ability to heal. The Loremaster is Mage-like, but is more of a pet-based class with lots of crowd control. For straight ranged nuking, there is always the Hunter, even though it isn't very Mage-like.
@AriesL2 Minstrels are a great class, and in much demand in groups. But if you are in a Kinship, expect to get a lot of requests to heal their groups. Not a lot of groups want their Minis doing damage, you will end up healing a lot.
Hey, I just started F2P, and LOTRO in general. i just found out about all this and i was wondering what type of character should i make if i like to be an up-close fighter/warrior? what things should i choose to be a strong fighter?
@BellusScormus this helps. im thinking of being a champion, but i have one question about it. if im a champion what class/race should i be? man or elf?
@JsbJsbJsbmager Yes, that's exactly where I mean, at least for Men and Hobbits. The "starter" areas I'm speaking of are Erid Luin (Dwarves, Elves), Breeland (Men), and The Shire (Hobbits). By bouncing between these three zones, and doing all of the quests and all of the deeds available in each area, you can rack up a nice amount of Turbine points. And also, F2P and Premium players really need to make the most of these zones, as they are the only ones those folks get for free.
@JsbJsbJsbmager Turbine uses a "hybrid" free-to-play model, so you can choose to play with no subscription on a limited basis, or you can buy Turbine Points so you can purchase things in the Store to open up more options (more character slots, expansions, quest packs etc). Or you can sign up with a regular subscription, and get everything (aside from the expansions) on a "rented" basis. If you decide later to drop from a subscription to free player, you lose access to some things.
to go along with tip 2; do not rush to endgame! this cant be stressed enough Lotro has a kind of a meh endgame, LOTRO is about community & fun not somuch about raiding though there is raiding to be done. 75% of the stuff to do at cap is stuff you can do starting way below lvl cap like skirmishes and now classic instances, 12.5% is pvp [more for some less for some] and 12.5% is raiding remember there is only one raid at lvl cap and now 1 classic raid and 1 classic insta thats relevant to cap.
@disappearing0ne360 Indeed, well said! LOTRO is much more about the journey (Epic questline, leveling with friends, player events, skirmishes on instances) than the destination (end-game raiding, instances, and skirmishes). This goes doubly so for Free and premium players, who have a level-cap of 50 (unless those Premiums bought at least MoM), they need to enjoy the ride and not focus at all on the end of the line until they get there.
advice on advice: do NOT clutter it up with complaints and whining. It is there to help, and the behaviour that might be wide spread in WoW will get you on /ignore by many many people in Lotro. People on the advice channe are there to help, not turbine employees to listen to the whines about the system. Right now it is buggy.. for everyone old and new. Use the tickets for that.. and genuine questions.. ask away! we actually want to help and not just tell you l2p noob as you would hear in wow.
Please help me. It says the F2P Launch date was 9/10, it's now 9/11, and I can't log in on the launcher. it says "Your account does not have a subscription for this" or something. Please help. I really want to play D:

@colorsaredumb As for PvP, that is a VIP (subscriber) only activity, I'm afraid. LOTRO has PvMP (Player vs Monster-Player), sequestered away in one zone (The Ettenmoors). VIPs can enter with a regular character at level 40, or make a Monster-Player character for use only in the 'Moors at level 10.

@BellusScormus If i buy the game on a Cd is it still free, or do i have to pay every month. Please answer
TheDIOrules 1 year ago
@TheDIOrules As I understand it, if you can find an old copy of "Shadows of Angmar" or a copy of the expansion "Mines of Moria", they come with a free 30 days of VIP access. If you choose to remain a VIP after that, you have to pay a subscription fee. If not, you are automatically a Premium player, who pay no subscription but get a few benefits over regular Free players.
BellusScormus 1 year ago
@BellusScormus So if i buy the Cd i get 30 days VIP, but after that its kinda free play ?
TheDIOrules 1 year ago
@TheDIOrules After 30 days it is completely free, if you want it to be. It's your choice.

@BellusScormus hey...what do you think about elf hunter is it any good for a hmmm kinda begginer..i played a lot of mmorpg games like wow,GW and RF so i rly need an oppinion from a lotro expert!?
ForgivenTruth 1 year ago
@ForgivenTruth Well, first of all, I'm no LOTRO expert. I'm just some jerk sharing my opinion in the Intertubes. That said though, my wife is absolutely new to LOTRO, very inexperienced with MMOs in general, and she's having a great time with her Elf Hunter. I haven't played that combination myself (I prefer Hobbits and Men), but if I recall Elves have several racial advantages that help with being a Hunter, so it seems like it would be a great combination.
BellusScormus 1 year ago
@BellusScormus :) what class do you play?
ForgivenTruth 1 year ago
@ForgivenTruth Minstrel, Warden and Rune-Keeper mostly. I recently got into leveling a Captain as well.
BellusScormus 1 year ago
@BellusScormus Hey heres few questions that would rly help me ingame so...is hobbit burgler good choice for a beginner, what proffesion should i pick if i play that class and is there any dungeon finder system in lotro game?
Kilhson 1 year ago
@Kilhson
BellusScormus 1 year ago
@BellusScormus so what combination of race and class do you suggest to beggin with cuz i played wow for 4 years and almost all is new to me?
Kilhson 1 year ago
@Kilhson Well, from your previous question regarding playing a Hobbit Burglar, I'm guessing you are looking for a WoW Rogue-like character? If so, try playing a Race of Man Champion. Yes, it's a warrior type of class, but it is the premier melee DPS class, easy to play for a new player, and will help you get a feel for LOTRO better than struggling with a more difficult class.

@BellusScormus ok thank you!

Can u recommend me which class to choose, if I want to play as mage/ damage dealer?
AriesL2 1 year ago
@AriesL2 If you already own the "Mines of Moria" expansion, or are willing to buy the class from the LOTRO Store, go with a Rune-Keeper. That's the closest thing to a classic Mage in the game, plus it has the ability to heal. The Loremaster is Mage-like, but is more of a pet-based class with lots of crowd control. For straight ranged nuking, there is always the Hunter, even though it isn't very Mage-like.
Hope that helps!
BellusScormus 1 year ago
@BellusScormus Is Minstrel any good? I know it is healer, but is it needed in game? Can u find party easily?
AriesL2 1 year ago
@AriesL2 Minstrels are a great class, and in much demand in groups. But if you are in a Kinship, expect to get a lot of requests to heal their groups. Not a lot of groups want their Minis doing damage, you will end up healing a lot.

Hey, I just started F2P, and LOTRO in general. i just found out about all this and i was wondering what type of character should i make if i like to be an up-close fighter/warrior? what things should i choose to be a strong fighter?
davidandrex2 1 year ago
@davidandrex2 You have several choices here, depending on what exactly you are looking for:
1) Captain: This class has a pet, and is primarily a buffer, but does fight up close as a warrior and leader of men.
2) Champion: This is your "DPS" warrior.
3) Guardian: This is your classic, heavy-armor tank. Slow to kill things, but tough to kill.
4) Warden: This class is an evasion tank, essentially. They wear medium armor, and use Gambits (combo skills) in order to launch powerful abilities.
BellusScormus 1 year ago
@BellusScormus this helps. im thinking of being a champion, but i have one question about it. if im a champion what class/race should i be? man or elf?
davidandrex2 1 year ago
@davidandrex2 I go with Man, for the racial sword bonus. Elves get a bow bonus that won't help you at all.
BellusScormus 1 year ago
@BellusScormus well, thank you very much
davidandrex2 1 year ago
@BellusScormus Not entirely correct, Elves get a bow bonus and a 1h sword bonus, whereas Men get a 2h sword and a 1h sword bonus.
DZZeborro 1 year ago
@DZZeborro True, but that bow bonus is absolutely useless to a Champion.
BellusScormus 1 year ago
Hey, I just started F2P, and LOTRO in general.
Well I was wondering when you say starter areas does that include the areas right after the flaming Bree?
JsbJsbJsbmager 1 year ago
@JsbJsbJsbmager Yes, that's exactly where I mean, at least for Men and Hobbits. The "starter" areas I'm speaking of are Erid Luin (Dwarves, Elves), Breeland (Men), and The Shire (Hobbits). By bouncing between these three zones, and doing all of the quests and all of the deeds available in each area, you can rack up a nice amount of Turbine points. And also, F2P and Premium players really need to make the most of these zones, as they are the only ones those folks get for free.
BellusScormus 1 year ago
@BellusScormus When we say P2P, is this a monthly fee?
'Cus I'm quite interested in this game, but if the P2P is monthly I might just go to guild wars...
JsbJsbJsbmager 1 year ago
@JsbJsbJsbmager Turbine uses a "hybrid" free-to-play model, so you can choose to play with no subscription on a limited basis, or you can buy Turbine Points so you can purchase things in the Store to open up more options (more character slots, expansions, quest packs etc). Or you can sign up with a regular subscription, and get everything (aside from the expansions) on a "rented" basis. If you decide later to drop from a subscription to free player, you lose access to some things.

who can help me lvl up? If you can i will post up my server im on and my name when it loads and im not just starting out
Sk8tillforlife 1 year ago
to go along with tip 2; do not rush to endgame! this cant be stressed enough Lotro has a kind of a meh endgame, LOTRO is about community & fun not somuch about raiding though there is raiding to be done. 75% of the stuff to do at cap is stuff you can do starting way below lvl cap like skirmishes and now classic instances, 12.5% is pvp [more for some less for some] and 12.5% is raiding remember there is only one raid at lvl cap and now 1 classic raid and 1 classic insta thats relevant to cap.
disappearing0ne360 1 year ago
@disappearing0ne360 Indeed, well said! LOTRO is much more about the journey (Epic questline, leveling with friends, player events, skirmishes on instances) than the destination (end-game raiding, instances, and skirmishes). This goes doubly so for Free and premium players, who have a level-cap of 50 (unless those Premiums bought at least MoM), they need to enjoy the ride and not focus at all on the end of the line until they get there.

DDO had such an awesome community I almost cried, lets hope LOTRO is the same.
theringodd 1 year ago
advice on advice: do NOT clutter it up with complaints and whining.

I'm disapointed it's free now. It was way to good to go there and eventually you'll gotta pay eventually it's enevitable.

I'm a F2P player who had some fun beta testing but am about to get into the game myself.
The idea that ANYONE would ask if LOTRO had flying mounts is just...
READ THE DAMN BOOKS! Or just as good ,watch the movies. Yeah, the Nazgul technically had flying mounts, but they're evil, they get perks.
