i bet they couldnt mimic more of the effects layers upon the basic song structure and thats why they made it that way... no band can cover SY's effects plus they didnt do the minimalist part.. trying that would have just been impossible. oh and the YYY are the mass media's pre-digested generic version of SY.

I grew up listening to Sonic Youth and I love them but I have to say that I like this version better. The way they transformed the song really gives focus to the heart of the lyrics.

Actually this is a very good cover. Nobody would guess it's from SY. I rather listen to this cover than a crappy wannabe-SY version with kids attempting to make the same guitar riffs and noises. If I wanted to hear the same song I just listen to the original. This is the point of the cover, to make it sound different and as good.

I'm a huge Sonic Youth fan and to say without the noise, sonic youth wouldn't exist is bullshit, it's a good cover, leave the noise version to Sonic Youth and let the Yeah Yeah Yeahs do their more melodic version. If they were to copy the song just like SY did it, it would be a complete rip off and kind of defeat the point of a "version" of a song.
