A big problem with this game is that the enemies just take way too much damage to kill...it can get very tedious especially in arcade mode after you die and lose your weapon power. Somebody should take a hint from Japanese style shmups and make it easier to kill enemies and also lower your own shields/armor.

I remember that somewhere on the internet, about 3 years ago, there were instructions on how to get this to work in multiplayer via DOSBox and Hamachi. It was about 15 minutes of work, but it all depends on how native you are to the DOSBox interface. Me and my friend had a good time in reviving the 90's memories :) There was some lag, but I'm certain that if we had done some more tweaks the game would've run perfectly.

This was/is a perfect game. New games cannot offer what Tyrian has offered.

One of games of my childhood ^^ Yet I never was able to configure it to play music or any sounds... After years when I tried it on dosbox it started to work and show me epicness of the soundtrack.

Also few people know that Tyrian 2000 is a descendant of a game for Nintendo Entertainment System called "Zanac". Some of themes in Tyrian actually come from Zanac. Best thing is that now both games can be played on PC for free :)

I have an older computer from 98 and it runs this game like a dream.

I prefer the music under my older card, a Sound Blaster Audio PCI 128.

EVERYTHING sounds so much more BA with the real deal, from the music, and the sounds.

The computer voice sounds ENTIRELY different on my older card and it's much more awesome.

Unfortunately, I can't record myself playing on that old rig at all.

And remember: Pizza is always better when delivered at 3000 miles per second.

you'll have to softmod your wii and get the homebrew channel. then the homebrew browser and there it is downloadable. softmodding also allowes you to use roms and emulators for free with your wiimote. google it and you'll figure it out.

i haven't had any side effects at all and i just followed the instructions exactly.

one thing is that if you update your wii from system menu 4.0 to 4.1 the homebrew channel will most likely be deleted.

keep in mind that there are a lot of guides of how to do it. i found several and tried once or twice before i got it right.when i finally got it working i followed a guide here on youtube in three parts

@Andiaz That's because it's a bloody brilliant soundtrack. It was produced in the highest quality available at the time (IIRC, the soundtrack files are larger than the actual game itself!), and it's epic, up-beat VGM music that's just crying out for a band to produce a proper, live cover of it. :)

I've had "Tyrian - The Level" running trough my head all day. It's been driving me so mad that I've had to start writing a piano cover of it in order to exorcise it. :)

Eww should stick with the basic starter plasmacannon instead of picking protron or vulcan. Protron fails. And sonic wave can also shoot forwards if you press... umm some key I don't remember making it pretty much the best back weapon.

I had a demo version, and when you beat it twice, you can get a ship that's nearly impenetrable...it literally looks like a carrot, and its called the supercarrot...you can also shoot bananas at your enemy. Pesonally, I used a maxed out pulse cannon as my front gun, maxed out front facing sonic waves, and for my sidekicks, i had plasma storms. Put all of that on the supercarrot with the most expensive generator, and you're indestructible. It was the dream ship.

You can run Tyrian 2000 under a program called Dosbox on new machines. A simple google search should find it for you.

There's also an open source Tyrian project in development, Open Tyrian, which supports modern OS's. A google search should find that, too.

Get Dosbox, a Dos emulator. It will work then even on windows vista. I've played games a lot older than this using Dosbox on my windows vista computer. I even have the original Scorched Earth game (the one where the turrets shot at each other over the 2D hills). A VERY OLD game. Makes Tyrian look new.

I have the OLD ORIGIONAL of this game somtimes I can get to work in xp dos simulator if hit the right combo too. this is an exclent game if you have a retro computer that works (prefferably running windows 3.1a) yes I know Im into ancient crap ok!!!
