@musiclover77able Teena is the real deal, she's not trying to be something like Christina is. Teena Marie can sing a song about Coretta Scott King, Angela Davis, or Nikki Giovanni and it fits but I can't say the same about Aguiliera.

I have this on cassette(tells you how old I am), so L don't know what the album or CD cover says, but there is a video of a memorial to Teena done at Oakwood Park, in Venice Ca. This video is over 1 hour, and much of it contains Teena's best friend Mickey's daughter(one of Teen's goddaughters). The point is she mentions this as her favorite song because Teena dedicated it to her in the beginning when she says Je ne se qua, I love you.

@roscoegino I don't see her story(at least not the true story) being fused with Rick's unless Alia and a few other people approved. i believe Lady Tee became quite the business woman and I would be surprised if Alia didn't have complete control of all her mother owned. I would also be surprised if Alia were not consulting with her god mother , Mickey, on everything. She was a central figure in Teena's life and no doubt will remain central figure in Alia's life.
@tigner1 oh of course. alia and the entire estate would have to give the okay but it's virtually impossible to have a true rick film w/o teena in there. i would hope a teena film does her justice as her story is actually the more unique of the 2 but more people r aware of rick. on top of that u also have to consider that certain interesting details may not be included even if all her people participate. Until then I'm trying to find all her Soul Train appearances! Only 3 of 9 are on tube.

I learned to play bass because of this wonderful record. It's full of joy and sunshine (and has a wonderful baseline). This is the first time I've ever listened to this song and felt sad.
@MrAlThang Nice to meet you. Needless to say I'm mighty impressed. TM clearly chose top bass players and there were so many great baselines throughout her music (more that I struggled to play!). Do you know if she came up with the baselines or gave you musicians some freedom to input your own ideas? Incidentally, I gave up bass and playing music, but returned to it a couple of yrs ago - midlife crisis me thinks. Piano this time but my heart is always with the bass. :-)
@nialldcrowley Teena was a very gifted artist. Her major in college was english lit. Her musicality was magnificent. She played piano, guitar, percussion & bass. I started working with her after her initial album. I played bass on quite a few of her songs. I also co wrote some. When she and I worked together, sometimes she'd come up with the initial idea and I'd take it in the direction I thought it should go. There was no set method. It was organic. As it should be.
I think everyone is really like i wasn't expecting this one... Wow! another music legend gone but definitely not forgotten! Love and Miss You Lady! May prayers are heartfelt condolences to the family... She was a treasure!

@roscoegino I don't see her story(at least not the true story) being fused with Rick's unless Alia and a few other people approved. i believe Lady Tee became quite the business woman and I would be surprised if Alia didn't have complete control of all her mother owned. I would also be surprised if Alia were not consulting with her god mother , Mickey, on everything. She was a central figure in Teena's life and no doubt will remain central figure in Alia's life.

@tigner1 oh of course. alia and the entire estate would have to give the okay but it's virtually impossible to have a true rick film w/o teena in there. i would hope a teena film does her justice as her story is actually the more unique of the 2 but more people r aware of rick. on top of that u also have to consider that certain interesting details may not be included even if all her people participate. Until then I'm trying to find all her Soul Train appearances! Only 3 of 9 are on tube.

@roscoegino I'm aware that there are always going to be details not included and frankly, some shouldn't be. However in the case of Rick and Teena, there is already so much in the public domain already; I just don't want to see some whitewashed, watered down piece of garbage Hollywood is notorious for. I know she completed her next CD before her death, but she doesn't say how close she was to completing her autobio, she just says she writing it.
I hopw you find the other 6, I'd love to see them.

@MrAlThang Nice to meet you. Needless to say I'm mighty impressed. TM clearly chose top bass players and there were so many great baselines throughout her music (more that I struggled to play!). Do you know if she came up with the baselines or gave you musicians some freedom to input your own ideas? Incidentally, I gave up bass and playing music, but returned to it a couple of yrs ago - midlife crisis me thinks. Piano this time but my heart is always with the bass. :-)

@nialldcrowley Teena was a very gifted artist. Her major in college was english lit. Her musicality was magnificent. She played piano, guitar, percussion & bass. I started working with her after her initial album. I played bass on quite a few of her songs. I also co wrote some. When she and I worked together, sometimes she'd come up with the initial idea and I'd take it in the direction I thought it should go. There was no set method. It was organic. As it should be.

I cried when I heard Teena Marie died.... I grew up with her music, my sister saw her the Rose Bowl in Pasdena Ca. which was a three day concert with alot of well know artist.
