Heath Ledger was great as usual (RIP). I also really liked Kate Hudson in this movie. She played a very convincing English lady of the time. Ethne Eustace was her only good role.
A good Movie, but the historical inaccuracies are pretty glaring.. the Battle of Abu Klea which is depicted as a severe defeat for the British was actually a British Victory. Then again the director was Indian so thats not really surprising
I just wanted to share this with you: the other day a girl left a comment saying she used to be a friend of Heath during highschool and I started laughing because he went to a private school for boys only haha :D
This is one of my favorite movies too, and yes, it was so underrated! Why? Heath was amazing in it!!! And the movie touches so many sensitive topics, even for nowadays. Heath's character resolution to do something about the feathers was honestly brilliant. How many of us has reached that point and said "I better do something, for it's my choice to become the one I want to be". This made a lot of sense. If you haven't seen this movie, I promise you won't lose your time.
@InfidelAdvocate Pfft thats what you think, as a person thats seen Ugandan Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels in action I say, much hasnt changed. Whether American, USSR, or directly core British army, they all tell ya the same thing when no ones left on your brigade (or in my case activist group); 'You are in hostile territory where the situation cannot be helped there is nothing we can do' If its you and less than 7 ppl then youre even worse off cause aint sending shit for just that amount.
They should make a movie about the british campaign in Afghanistan in 1870s...
And having it end with the endtune from Hurt Locker...
I imagine the scene which goes something like this. We see the last british soldier leaving through the Khyber Pass and having two tribesmen looking from a distance. Then one says to the other possible in Pashtun "The British they will return, and then they do Afghanistan will defeat them again".
@16Canadian really....i love him, him and harry were perfect together in this movie....I love the part when they argue about him giving himself up to the prison, and harry say....How can you be responsible for my life...If its God will for me to die, then I will die :)))
I deleted the comment by "shaise" because I do not support racism and if you guys want to continue talking this racist crap you better move to some planet far far away! All men are created free and equal.
@NextLife77 some egyptains are black, some areas are populated by many black people because egypt is a part of africa. They speak arabic and they look more arabic than blacks. So i dont understand why you are freaking out. They probably focused on one tribe of egyptians.
The film had a promising start and storyline but got muddled about half-way through the story. Still, the battle sequences alone are worth viewing the film.
There have been four versions of the "Four Feathers". About the best one is from the 1970's. And, yes, the British stopped wearing the scarlet tunics before the time the film was set.
I'm certain that I saw a version of this movie starring Richard Todd, but I've looked everywhere and can't find mention of it. Does anyone know where I can find that movie?
ahhh, do u know a movie about US soldiers sent to desert to defend a waterwell without water, in the end only 3-4 stay alive but the well is refiled and they win the battle, pls respond if u do know
no, in real life the battle the movie is supposed to represent the british fend off the attack pretty easily, they only loose in the film for better dramatic effect
@abufatimah Sounds like the Americans in the Vietnam war! Anyway, just so you know - since Americans seem to have a tendency to believe movies are 100% accurate historical accounts - this film is a work of fiction and has little to no basis in the reality of the Mahdist war. If you want to know what really happened then I suggest reading a history book or at the very least reading the wiki entry!
You could resign from the British Military just like that back then? Also Paramount please release this movie out on Blu-Ray.

This whole film would be a lot simpler if he just said he was a pacafist.
Also our whole drama class hated the female character when we watched it. Right up until the end -.-

You should read Dr. Gamal Hamdan's book first, before insulting people you don't know. There are 30 different races in Modern Egypt.
What about the Nubians? aren't they Egyptians? Take the majority of people in Upper Egypt.
Your comment shows a big deal of ignorance.
PS: I'm an Egyptian myself.
