  • hey john, thanks for all the great reviews :D if you read this could you play something in the rough srv style, with muting and an hard pick? id like to hear it on one of those strats!

  • Mexican or american, the sound is still the same and both guitars are made by mexicans in a Fender factory.

  • I love your guitar playing. Wow.

  • John, what was the particular year that these mijs were made best?? I am going to buy one and have my eye on a nineties model

    Cheers

  • Perhaps when they first started making them and they had this new-found product.

  • @johnhguitar Ok cool, Thanks for your reply

  • where can i order this guitar in sunburst to europe ? thanks

  • Does that strat have the chunky baseball bat neck that some japanese reissues had?

  • how is the action height on this guitar?

  • As I recall quite low. However, all guitars can be adjusted however low you want.

  • johnguitar and phil-x should have a tv show together

  • hey, can u please do a review of the Ibanez Ice Man? ...hopefully Ic200....:D

  • X-Ray vision. Classic. lol

  • hi john, what would you say your favorite guitar is?

  • Probably an ol' Tele.......

  • @johnhguitar Thats what I like to hear man :D

  • dude its a 45 degree angle, or 135 depending at how you look at it

  • Dude its a 45 degree angle, or 135 degree if you look at it differently

  • Lenny. That is a very good song =)

  • mexican stratocasters are better in my opinion, but thats just me :)

  • aren't japanese guitars better quality (fenders anyway)??? and how much is the cheapest fender strat that sounds great, ages well, and looks awesome? American special?

  • Hello John,

Excuse for my English. Please, about " Fender Stratocaster reissue ", how to for to buy Japan Stratocaster? Because, USA custom shop IS VERY EXPENSIVE.

I play with MEXICO Fender Stratocaster "Style 50", that is very good but, I would like to have 1962 or 1963 or 1965 Reissue.

Your internet site is very good too, thank to you!

  • how much is it for one of these?

  • i like fenders with rosewood necks

  • i had an american standard of 1989 that was not so good as my japanese st62 matter of fact. THe exciting of the japanese is that is much more resonant as any other I have played, classic 60 american standards, hghway

  • @stratovanzo : Hello, Where do you have to Buy your St 62? I lived in France. Have you made Upgrade USA Pickguards? Thank.

  • @mibru2512: I bought it directly from Japan, through ebay I live in Italy, and the guitar arrived in a week. Everything was fine, the guitar is st62TX comes with two texas special pickups so they're american pickups that sound very good. Trust me when I say that this guitar can be compared only with american vintage 62 strat. Maybe the electronics (potentiometers) is the only thing that is not excellent but does a good job anyway

  • Great Sound!!!

  • PRS owns all

  • @Guitarshark87 I had a prs custom 24 that was great it could sound almost like a les paul and almost like a strat, with perfect style and accurate in every particular aspect, wonderful. But if you want a strat sound you have to buy a strat.

  • what amp settings are you using in this video john?

  • i have the same guitar only in fiesta red with texas special pickups and plays wonderful, good feel stays in tune like no other strat i've played before. For sure this is better quality than every mexican and a little better than the american standard. There is difference with the american vintage because it's got better electronics. but there is the japanese st62 vsp, 2 piece body (am.vint, am st. 3 piece) di marzio pickups that is new for 1000 $, i think it's better than the am vintage.

  • @stratovanzo one thing I've picked up along the way is that if your tuning problems are to do with using the whammy (trem/portamento) arm then the solution is generally a metal nut - the bit which guides the strings from the tuning pegs on the headstock to their respective positions on the neck - rather than the plastic ones which Japanese (definitely) and Mexican (I think!) lower-end recent models used as standard. The downside is that you may well need to rout out a slightly wider nut-slot...

  • @stratovanzo : please what difference between DMC and ST For Stratocaster made in Japan? And How to buy good fender Japan? I saw in FRANCE.

  • oh ok thanks, but is the tone different? if so which one has the better tone?

  • @jorgenforgen AMP Guitar Player The tone is in your hands. Find the tone you like. Try things out. EXPERIMENT! I prefer a good vintage reissue strat with the original pickups. My favorite new pickups are the Fender Custom Shop 60 reissues. They're great!

  • @johnhguitar kk thanks man, and just for the record, ur videos are pretty kick ass!! thanks again

  • @johnhguitar my favorite are the 68-69 model yrs, ive never heard them in person but ive heard them on here and they sound INCREDIBLE

  • hey john im thinking on buying or the road worn 60s strat or the 62 vintage reissue, which one would u recomend?

  • @jorgenforgen I kinda prefer the American reissue models that aren't too heavy if you can find one.

  • What song is it you start playing at 5.20?

  • Are you using a compressor John? And by the way, given the same pickups what do you say would gimme a punchier tone, the rosewood fingerboard or the maple? Thanx and good review!!

  • I think people agree that maple is punchier. No compressor. Thanks....

  • did you demonstrate the tremelo trick at the end because you thought the guitar would then be out of tune???.......thats fenders downfall till the locking nut id say.....

  • Nice SRV cover! :D

Thanks for uploading, I'm checking out a Mexican strat standard.

  • ho do you get rid of that whiping sound from when you hit the strings?

  • @d8a ... use thicker strings

  • hey john, where's that other review wherein you talked about the nut of a strat reissue suggesting to put chapstick on it...

  • what style of music would you call the chord progressions that you start playing at 7:06?

    Thanks and great vid!

  • Pop Ballad? Maybe an R'nB Motown style soul ballad.

  • its stays in tune

  • the action looks pretty high

  • Hey John just out of curiosity, do you like your whammy to float of flush against the body? You play very nice and smooth with that thing. I love playing like that. You're a great player, keep the videos coming.

  • No, I tilt the bridge forward so I can vibrato/bend the notes up and down. I have a telecaster with a fixed bridge...Thanks

  • Thats a great solution, i used to do that but then when i detuned it the bridge moved and it went out of tune.

  • Like i want to learn electric guitar,,but my mum told me to learn from the basic

  • shes right.

  • buy one on ebay...lovely guitars for your whole life man!!!

  • If i want to learn guitar, should i learn the basic guitar first? My mum says it's better to ask a pro

  • buy an acoustic everyone started on one best place to start

  • Great guitar with great musician... I have a dream to have a Fender Stratocaster, but unfortunelly, here in Brazil it's very expensive....

  • About your comment on the pick ups. The guitar you're playing, the '62 reissue, have the USA made Texas Special pick ups. You can check it by removing the scratchplate, and you'll see that the pu wiring is just like the Fender Custom Shop Texas Special wiring (I have both) and there's also a little, round orange sticker on the back of the scratchplate that are there to indicate US Texas Special pu's. The difference is in the pots and the pu switch.

  • Thanks for your comments and contribution to these segments. I'm trying to give information that creates an interest. People might think I'm going for the gold but there are millions of guitarist that need to know stuff to improve their overall playing and musicianship and that's what we should care about from a teaching standpoint. Thanks again...

  • i have this guitar. im proud about it

  • You should be:-) They're great guitars!!!

  • @victorandrada

    lol. i want one too

  • great tone!

  • Anybody recommend the DG-20s in this?

  • I prefer the sound of this to the sound of the road worn strat with the tex mex pickups by far....

  • I know that it really is down to personal opinion, but I don't have much experience with pick-ups. What's your personal opinion on the tex mex pickups (overwound) when compared to the standard pickups as seen here?

  • I like the tex-mex pickups for the telecaster but not the strat. There just too edgy with a bit too much harshness for my liking...

  • Thanks very much. Thing is I live in the UK and the only really cost-viable option is a second hand guitar online so that's why I'm asking all these questions. Someone had a japanese strat where they'd replaced the pickups with tex mex so that's why I was asking.

  • So when someone is selling a strat as a Fender Stratocaster 1962 reissue does that necessarily mean it's one from the 90s, or have there been a large number of reissues?

  • BIG NUMBERS

  • So how do I know the '62 reissue strat I'm buyng is going to be a good one? Is this 90s japan made one specifically special, or all they all good quality? I am having serious guitar envy just watching this video...

  • With all good intention you should try them out and decide for yourself. Buy what you can afford and be picky. Japan or USA , in the end it's up to you. Make yourself happy and feel that YOU made the decision. Thanks

  • Good advice

  • If you have staggared tuners, you don't need string trees :)

  • You do great reviews - entertaining as well as informative. But can you tell me something, please? Is there anyone playing Bebop on a Strat? I need a solid body guitar for late night - don't disturb a soul - practicing with headphones, but I want a jazz sound. I know that Ed Bickertt plays cool jazz on a Telecaster, but from your review of the Tele, the Strat seems more suitable for jazz. I would appreciate help from anyone. Thanks !!!

  • Scott Henderson playing Giant Steps. It might be on YT

  • Not necessarily. He happens to use his Teles for country and his Strats for Jazz and Blues. But, the Tele is a great jazz Guitar. I play Jazz all the time with it. I do different typs of Jazz, sometimes I use the bright tone of the Tele but other times I get it really warm as well. I even played a party with Jazz music with a Tele. Anyways, for me, the Tele is the best...

  • It's not just about the equipment you're using, it's about the tone in the palyer's hand and of course the guitar you're using.

  • Haha, I heard Lenny at the beginning. [x

  • You do great reviews man! Keep up the good work :)

  • i dig the tone

  • Man your a great guitarist wish you could teach us some blues songs =D

  • Nice stratocaster, what do you like better stratocasters or teleocasters?

  • all depends what sound you want, teles are twangier whilst strats are bluesier

  • this guy is awesome

    :) :P

  • LENNY :), man i love that song, nice version

  • i really love the sound of this guitar,

    great playing to!

  • Good sound you've killed your studio's echo

  • nice lenny from srv

  • Very hendrix style, good guitar choice John.

  • i was thinking the same thing!

  • @Mir38 hendrix used late 60's guitars with maple necks mostly

  • just kidding i like em both(:

  • then that was a stupid thing to say

  • Fanboys suck!

  • great jap strat, my favs really! *****

    btw, great playing too!
