I so agree with Najee1020 Capitol was the best soap opera on at the time it was removed and there are many of us who still miss it. Loved Prince Ali(Peter Lochran) & Sloane Denning. Wish it could have the reruns shown on the soap opera channel.

When looking at Capitol, it feels like you're watching a newscast. The opening, the storyline, the writing, and the font style at the end makes you think of CBS NEWS.
i watching these episodes now oh god after all these years .i never missed one it was the best of all soaps pity the way it ended.cant remember it all but i hv flashes and when it finised it started anathor soao was called loving qwando si amo era in italiano, these r greaat memories thanks alot
The ending WAS original. Thank you for posting this. I saw the last episode and I still have it on VHS. Who murdered Prince Ali, Sloane's huaband? I remember that the young princess whom Ali married was killed on their wedding day. I hadn't seen the show for a while, then I saw this episode. I heard that Ali was killed on his honeymoon with Sloane. Was that true? This was a great show. Thank you again.
I remember watching this with my mother along with Y&R. I love B&B now..as well as Y&R and I don't hold this show's cancellation against B&B, because B&B was a REALLY great show in the past as well...
Oh, how I loved CAPITOL and have held its cancellation against B&B to this day. I still have my VHS of this episode and love Myrna telling the "children" to "choose sides!" when Sam's blonde blackmailer stands behind her. Terrific acting. Sloane was no slouch, either. Thanks so much for the memories.
I was not old enough to have watched capitol but I have read about it in my soap history book. I love this video having heard what happened in the final episode and it's great to see it. I love anything Marj Dusay is in. I think it's terrible how they canceled it just because Bill Bell wanted to do another soap.
CBS executives told the Capitol cast and crew that the show was ending at the 1986 Christmas party. Since B&B was going to use the same studio space, the Capitol people had only two weeks to shoot about 50 episodes.
wow, thats messed up...well i always heard of this show but not that familiar with what it was about...whats the premise? and how long was it on the air?
Capitol was a daily soap about powerful people in Washington (senators, etc.) and the machinations in their personal and professional lives. It ran from 2:30 to 3 p.m. (EST) on CBS from March 29, 1982 to March 20, 1987. It got decent ratings, but was canceled to make way for The Bold and the Beautiful.
thank u btm! i didnt realize so many stars from other shows (now) was on that show...just from this brief clip i see Jill from Y&R, Lindsay from OLTL, Alex from GL and Helena from GH...who else was in the cast thats notable?
I agree. I read that the executive producer was so angry about the short-notice canceling that he purposedly left everything up in the air. I thought Capitol was an excellent soap.
like guiding did, they wrapped all the stories up and watching from the 80 josh and reva you just knew they would be together forever and at the end they rode off in h. b.. (his dad) old truck. now thats what im talking about. soapnet should rerun all the soaps from the start. edge of night, search for tomorrow, atwt, gl, and y and r.
also towards the end that older man that was on the microphone or whatever it was, he douglas, victor's old true friend on the young and the reatless and the guy who was talking on the microphone he looks so familiar i cant place what he played on.
although the writers were angry they should have let their love for the fans override their hurt towards the network and given the fans a better ending
I was a Search for Tomorrow fan and was devastated that CBS cancelled the show for Capitol. But I was told when producer John Conboy left Young and Restless for Capitol that Bill Bell had plans for Bold and Beautiful to go on the air within 5 years.
CAPITOL was a great show...and Marj Dusay & Deborah Mullowney incredibly beautiful and talented ladies. This was a clever, original way to end a series...with well written, thought-out cliffhangers rather than just tidy, happy endings. Too bad it was so unceremoniously axed to make room for BOLD & BEAUTIFUL.
Daytime TV has gone down the tubes with lousy talk & cooking shows. The world is ending as we know it.

One of the reasons why I don't care for B&B to this day. I loved Capitol.

it was on the air from 1982-1987. it was a daytime soap opera

TREMENDOUS performance by Dusay. "Choose sides!" What a great final moment.

what an ending!!!for respect to the audience they should have given the show a better ending with everything thing wrapped up.

He had good reason to be angry. CBS ruined the 1986 Capitol Christmas party by announcing the cancellation there.

@Najee1020 That means somebody else can pick it up.
