  • haha! XP

  • Maybe those three chaps are still living in similar conditions to those described in Frederick Engels book: "The Condition of the Working Class in England." Check it out; it's not at all funny.

  • What three chaps disliked this? Working class?

  • does anyone know what the them tube is called?

  • Ok, so I understand "you caught me in the Queensbury's" ("[Marquis of] Queensbury Rules" rhymes with "Family Jewels"), but what were the other ones?

  • @mortalkonlaw

I left the cheese and kisses (the mrs) and the god forbids (the kids) in the rat and mouse (the house).

took flander and dab (cab) down the frog and toad (road) where i had a very pleasent pint of pigs ear (beer) and

a large pimple and blodge (scotch)

  • @andrewjw01 Awesome. Does "You've tumbled me" have a rhyme, or is that just idiomatic?

  • @mortalkonlaw

It's all Idiomatic after the first scene

  • Mr Grayson reminds me of men when I first started working. Funny but true, Britain is still a class ridden society in 2011.

  • This is comedy, yes, but it's fucking true - at least in principle, in America.

  • I assume that the 3 dislikes are all from George Orwell.

  • Its them that as won us the war

  • "Thank you, you've reassurred me. I won't go there."

That totally reminds me of, "No, on second thought, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place." XD

  • "What do I get for tuppence?"

    "MUM ... !"

  • There are truths to these movies lol

  • Chavs certainly turn nice houses into filthy hovels.

  • goodnight, mr cholmondley warner, or should i say "ta ra governor"?

    no

  • waddle up me whoops a daisy !

  • Drinking Beer and singing poor quality songs - Sounds like my idea of a FAB night out lol - So Funny.

  • It´s lively down at Dead End Street!

  • mind if i pop outside and foul your pavement lol

  • Enfield is pure genius. ok he's dealt with most of the important issues of the 30s - the working classes, hitler, women's driving/virtue, association football, crime & Labour. there must be a few more to be examined

  • Slum Housing is the order of the Day, down on the east End!

Mind if I pop outside and foul your pavement?

I can't remember all of the colloquialisms, but they are all great. My legs are going numb for bending over and laughing this hard!

  • I love the grayson and cholmondley-warner sketches xD so clever!

  • That's the most accurate world map I've seen to this day.

  • haha....just clocked that

  • Makes the world seem a better place

  • @ColonelAllan Reading your comment made me notice that map for the first time... and I watched these shows when they were originally broadcast in the early '90s! Thanks for pointing that out :-)

  • "Mind if I nip outside and foul yer pavement?"

"Inside toilet, I aint never not heard of one of 'em nor I aint no know nothing."

  • "Goodnight Mr. Cholmondley-Warner, or should I say, 'ta-ra Guv'nor'?"

    "No."

  • 2 / 6sd to fuddle-duddle up me wups-a-daisy! Quality!

Mind you, Helen Lederer was brilliant, too.

  • yes and cheaper too.

  • It's perishin' chavtastic, wot it is, Guvna.

  • quite right chummy! Mind if I nip outside and piss on yer cabbages?

  • Henry Enfield was born in the 1960's....how exactly does he do 1920's style skits like these?

  • He has a time machine.

  • 1940's style skits, surely?

  • 1950s and it's because he is AN ACTOR who can use PRODUCTION techniques to make it look old.

    Clever, eh?

  • minter

  • Harry and Paul if you ever read this please make 1 more of these sketches

  • This is brilliant! I've watched this for few days now and it always makes me laugh!

The Mr Cholmondley Warner and Grayson films were the best part of H E & Chums.

Thanks for posting, these films make my day.

  • No problem, will post more soon. They are a work of genius.

  • @chillial Amen to that.

  • @JannyPanny59 Just what I was about to type. Definitely the best of Enfield's work, arguably

  • Good night Mr Cholmondley-Warner, or should I say, Ta-ra Guv'nor

    No

  • 'What do I get for tuppence?'

    'Mum!'

  • I don't know HOW you top that line!

  • Very skillfully done. Enfield and his chums had a knack of accurately yet understatedly picking out the foibles of 1940s public information films, leading to many lower quality imitators over the next few years. Check out his Norbert Smith - A Life for a Smorgasbord of accurately observed spoofs of this and other genres.
