I don't like the idea of making tigers any more interested in divers than necessary. This puts other divers, surfers, and swimmers at risk. How stupid and irresponsible.
Several thoughts. First of all, this Tiger is behaving in a very "interested" way. I'm sure she has been to many, many "free handout" shark dives before and was just looking for chum. Still, hard to think it isn't a Markus Groh-type attack in the making. NOT because of the physical contact (like bears, sharks see unarmed humans as harmless), but because a hungry shark might eat a person due to basic hunger. Generalist feeders will eat ANYTHING- including us, especially after a long migration.
What a load of bullshit. In no way the shark was even that close from eating divers. It is merely going after the bait. This kind of bullshit is one of many reasons why people are afraid of sharks hence not giving a damn more than 100 millions sharks are slaughtered every year. Change the title name. Thank you.
@dj17q I'm no shark expert, but I do know when that white film goes over their eyes they are going into predatory mode, along with the fact it was circling around them despite the divers trying to aim it away and the shark actually opening its mouth very close to a diver is fairly good evidence to me it was trying to attack them. So before you attack a video maybe you should watch the whole thing and use that brain stem for something other than trolling.
@TradedSorrows Ho ho ho, classic comeback for someone who think he knows about shark, and honestly must u use the word troll? I mean, I could said the same thing about you kiddo? Or you only used that word just to score a ripper sort of a point. Firstly, what make u think you know about sharks than I do? This is, what, coming from someone who hasnt grown out from puberty yet yeah? Ok if you must know, I have been involved with sharks for 30 years but it doesnt mean squat to u isnt it?
@TradedSorrows Secondly, you're just a scaredy cat not knowing a bloody thing about sharks. U simply assume it going to attack cos it simply open its mouth? What a crock of bull. I suggest, you to stop talking nonsense and perhaps try and learn a bit more about sharks instead of attacking people who u think are dickheads just cos all the sudden you wanted to feel like a superman. Is that it chump? Is that what u want from this conversation? Perhaps u need to go away and grow a bit more hair?
@dj17q lolumad? Yeah I don't know shit about sharks, but I doubt anyone who gets mad about something so trivial and doesn't say anything to disprove the given points probably doesn't either. And from the looks of your spelling and grammar you are probably a kid. I mean seriously if I worked with sharks for 30 years and someone said 'you are wrong' I wouldn't go personally attack them, I would post some links to prove them wrong.
@TradedSorrows Typical. Now you're mumbling about how poor my english when the fact you started about something else. So typical for someone who got nothin else to say.....Yeah, if you got nothin else then yeah, off you go. Run along with imagination.
@TradedSorrows By the way, yeah I'm mad as hell but it seem you're changing subject to disguise the biggest cock up you just did. So again, run along, play with ur imagination.
I agree that this shark is likely used to being fed and it was WAY too interested in the divers. The one guy touching her was keeping her away from the other divers to avoid an attack. He is likely one of the people feeding her on a regular basis. And yes, that IS a tiger, not a nurse.
some of the most awkward, destructive, and idiotic underwater footage ever. As a PADI instructor, I would have forcibly taken them out of the water one by one. Destroying the coral, molesting an apex predator, you give divers everywhere a bad name. you should feel ashamed
I had to sign up to comment on this video as its disgraceful-they should have their PADI certs taken off them and banned from diving! The poor shark I wish he had eaten them!!!
@kezzles70 why would you say something like that? that would be like me saying that you should be eaten by whatevr shark you dive with just because you are crazy enough to get into the water with a predatory fish that size.
it only tried to bite them 3 or 4 times and it didnt try very hard. if they wouldnt have had experienced shark handlers with them someone would have been losing an arm
Sensational! Where was this taken? Amazing that it was so docile Tigers are so ferocious normally don't normally need an excuse to attack but judging by the plethora of fish about I'd say it is well fed even though they prefer to eat turtles or mammals and other larger creatures. So where was this???
At first I would think this is harrasment, nowhere is a sign that says that this tigershark wants to be touched by a large group of divers.
But on the other hand, this tigershark lives in freedom and can swim away (or bite someone!) whenever it wants so apparently it isn't bothered by these divers. Although personally I always dive by the rule of not touching anything that lives..
why does the video say someone almost being eaten by a shark? it was nothing like that in the movie, change the title. anyway, these people sure do have the guts to dive and poke on a big tiger shark.
what the hell do you expect? god if i were that shark trust me you would have been eaten at the beginning i=of the video.....and not in a nice way! u r totally corwding that shark...prodding it and poking it who do you think you are!!!!?????
At 2:20 you can clearly see the stripes. This is clearly a large tiger shark. I wouldn't get within 50 feet of one of these in the ocean if I could help it...
This is a ridiculous video. If that shark had bitten one of those idiots, then it would have been a big deal and people freaking out because there was a "shark attack". Those divers were all but raping that poor animal. A Tiger isn't a house cat - you don't pet it and touch its nose. Incredible.
Sharks are the apex perators of the ocean but bare in mind humans are very very rarely on the menu. Show them respect and don't make a sudden movements(it can see very sudden movements as a threat) and you will be fine. Also if you find yourself being circled by sharksthen stay as still as humanly possible then they will go away(sharks are attracted to movement).
Shark on average kill four people a year (not very many) but humans kill 70 million sharks a year (now that is a lot) we are killing them on purpose, most shark attacks on humans are by accident and sharks attack surfers because they see the siluet and think it's food not because they think it's a seal, they attack humans at a diagonal angle but they attack seals at a vertical angle.
@A1L9L9A0N I must say that even though sharks are not the killing machines that they are often made out to be by the media, they are also not safe. That was a large Tiger shark with teeth and jaws sharp and strong enough to make short work of any shark suit and easily sever a limb. What these people were doing is coming very close to provoking an attack and they are just being reckless. You wouldn't go give a full grown grizzly bear a back rub.
In would want to do but but I think I would be scared. I do know that sharks aren´t killing machines and that they are not out to kill humans. I would rather be diving where there are sharks than surfing.
Really great footage, it kind of looks like this was a tourist dive and two safety divers trying to keep a 15 ft Tiger away from the tourists. I'm all for tourist diving with reef sharks, but they were in danger without knowing all the risks. Tiger's are very curious sharks, and if it wants you there is nothing a safety diver is doing about it.
I feel this is dangerous, I mean, it is a top preditor and it has a lot of teeth. More respect for the animal would be apropriate. After all when darkness comes it becomes a near perfect hunter.
Very majestic creatures. People need to treat them with proper respect, once you enter the sea, you're in their world. I saw a 15 ft Tiger in Hawaii when I was snorkeling cause me and my friends were stupid enough to follow a Sea Turtle. Very humbling (and terrifying at that) . At :28 it might've had it's eyelids come up because you're hand was close to it's eyes or because it was thinking of taking away that hand o.0 (That's what they do right before they feed to protect their eyes.)
she is a tiger, i have dived with both. Grey nurses have much more pointy noses and their teeth protrude out of their mouthes and they are generally much smaller than this one, i have never seen a grey nurse even close to this big. The tiger stripes on her side were VERY clear in real life, maybe its a little hard to see in the video.
This isn't even a Tiger shark, it's a Grey nurse. Tigers are far more ferocious than Great whites & no human could ever get this close to 1. Nurse sharks feed on small fish & rays etc. There's no evidence of 1 ever causing death to humans. Stupid tourists go & invade their natural habitat to try & look cool. Sorry, not impressed. For the record, the Grey Nurse is also called the Sand Tiger. (Note, not the Tiger shark). You should try cage diving with a real Tiger. Then Id really shake your hand
this is so sad to see...I can't decide what bothers me more..
People make such a big deal out of 'man-eating' sharks then go do this stupid crap. Sharks don't need to be killed, people need to be taught. When you go in the ocean that's their world.
I feel so bad for the shark he's being pet like a freaking dog..too bad he doesn't take an arm off!
Tiger's, Oceanic Whitetips, Great White's, and Bullsharks are the big daddies of shark attacks. There are very few that actually consider humans prey, these are included. Though most prefer less bony meals!
That's a big damn Tiger Shark... I'm not afraid of reef sharks, blacktips, hell, even hammerheads, but I don't fuck around when there is a Tiger in the water. I'm OUT. You guys are nuts...
The sharks in Beqa, Fiji are fed almost daily by hand over many years... this has not only mildly tamed the beast it has given the beast a bit of respect for the hands that feed her. Ever heard the term don't bite the hand that feeds you... she is swimming close to the divers one looking for the feeder diver and too she was probably fed quite a bit b4 all this commotion so she is no longer hungry...
I just waisted 3 minutes of my life watching this stupid video! I was waitng for some kind of aggressive behavior but shit, that was just plain stupid.
