There's enough videos about guys using nothing but a stick and a shoe string. I say if you're so underprepared that is what you have to resort to... Good luck. Thanks for the video.
LOL. Yeah, I used a little more powder than usual here. (Thought that amount would be better for the camera/demonstration purposes.) Came close to being more than just a little too close.
i know it might sound a bit weird but ive found one of the best tinders to be tampons :P. they are basically compressed cotton wool so its really small and it comes in some odd plastic thingy (dunno what its for and probably dont want to lol) so its somewhat waterproof.
Hey Matt. No, it doesn't sound weird at all...it's just compressed cotton, right?
As for the purpose of the 'odd plastic thingy'...yeah, if you don't know what it's for already, it's probably a good idea to leave that query well enough alone, lol.
You're a true light for the rest of us -- galvanize us to go out and experiment. Btw, I got the idea for the "toilet-paper-ring" tealight candles that I show in Part 2 from you. Thanks so much for all that you do & keeping us inspired.
Thanks man...our conversation on the topic is what inspired me to do this.
Like the steel wool idea, eh? Well I can't take credit for it. Excepting the KMnO4 idea (coming up in part 2, hopefully), none of these ideas are mine...just borrowed. (Heck, even the KMnO4 is common knowledge...I just happened to discover it in the chemistry lab first.)
That's the awesome thing about sites like this...we can always improve.
Looking forward to seeing your vid on what we talked about!

Very cool bro. Doing a great job. I like the alcohol wipe ... and the tea bag is great.
Have you ever burned "black powder" in open air?
Don't! LOL!

That was the best firemaking video I have seen yet for real practical stuff. Very cool.. That steel wool is something I'd never have thought about :D

Doesn't matter where the knowledge is from, its how the knowledge is composed and presented that makes it good in this case. :D
