  • Ed was/is the greatest lifter of all time. What he achieved with minimal equipment and strict judging is remarkable. Sure he used drugs, but so did all the other top guys of the day. he set records in several weight classes and was a complete (three-lift) champion. Some of his performances ... just WOW.

  • It looks as if he should have gone for more. 931 pounds and he stood up with it like an opener. I think he should have gone for 970+ in this meet and maybe 1000 and really set a fire under the ass of the powerlifting community. That would have been historic for him to squat 1000 walked out in single ply at 40+ years old? The guy is a legend. Roids or not, nobody posting comments here are near his level.

  • Millions of lifters take steroids but there is o n e Ed Coan

  • theres ed "cone" of supertrainng

  • even if he take ton of grug coan is the living god of powerlifting, i don't care about what he take.

  • i have to agree with the post by DrugFreeAthletes, Caon was a wolf contending with sheep, by that i mean he lifted against many true great lifters that were drug free, and beat them. However why not go to any one of the many bodies that do not run drug checks. The reason being because these guys were also wolfs, and they were stronger and lifted more weight pure and simply. So when we talk of great lifters lets try and put things in context, i.e, the time they lifted, federations and so on.

  • Not into roids myself, but don't fool yourself, most of the lifters at the top are using something, just a matter of fooling the drug test, its not so hard.

  • I think you'll find that Coan's totals in his prime wiped the floor with the totals posted by anyone regardless of fed. When he totalled 2402 @ 220 it was just inhuman, and then he moved upto 242lbs and posted the highest total the world had ever seen.

Not all of his totals were done in the IPF,and the IPF didn't always drug test. Coan was a wolf yes,but the entire powerlifting community were sheep in comparison at the time. With the exception of Mike Bridges at 181 when he was a lighter lifter

  • Coan was out totalling SHW's. Don't fool your self by believing the monolift, belly benching totals of today's multiply lifters are comparable. Coan was only beat when the gear advancements and judging criteria was changed in some feds

If you just took the bench shirts out, Coan would out total almost all of todays lifters, even with their monolift squats

replies were intended for 'physcde', youtube is playing up again and not posting coments

  • Ed did use roids, but so did 90% of the top guys in his sport..Ed is a freak, steroids or not.

  • I'll bet it was closer to 100% of the top lifters.

  • stop talking shit about greatest pl of all time. no one will beat him !!

  • bet he sill lifts more than you tho

  • the greatest ever

  • very strong lift bet he could of done 1003

  • that is how it is done at its best.

  • What? No Monolift??

A great effort by a true legend!
