  • Djent, as a genre, is basically Ambient Progressive Groove Metal.

Who the fuck cares what people call it?

  • I think djent is better as a description of a sound type. For example, monuments is more djent then dream theater, but they both fall under the envelope of the progressive metal genre.

  • 0:57 to 1:01 and 1:36 Singer sounds like Fred Durst.

  • I see that "A LOT!" of people keep debating each other about this "Djent" genre or what-ever you would people like to call it. I call it simply Pregressive Metal. I mean there's been over 50 people posting pretty much the same freaking explanation about what is "DJENT" in just different meanings and ways. People, just listen to the song and stop debating. We all know what DJENT is,otherwise you wouldn't be here on this video listening to this song! Just saying, don't intent to cause' any offence.

  • @JosefHolub18 yeah so true its just considered Progressive Metal, the tone only changes the style of the the song its just the composition what gives it that genre.

  • People, let me set it clear.

Djent is only used for defining a band/song using that kind of playing. Sometimes you just cannot say "progressive metal"; Dream Theater is progressive metal but nowhere near from playing djent. Bands like Monuments, Periphery, Textures, Structures and Meshuggah are labeled as djent since they play the guitar that way, making a characterized sound and music kind.

  • Djent is a word that Meshuggah used to describe guitar tones. As a genre, djent does not exist, but as a style or movement, I would say. I love it, but I wouldn't start using the world as a subgenre.

  • Djent(1): an onomatopoeia for a certain sound that can be made by a guitar. Djent(2): riffs consisting of monotone, mostly atonal "hits" ('hits' as opposed to chords or 'chugs') usually in polyrhythm. Djent does not necessarily imply prog or downtuning. There is usually ambient stuff going on over the pattern of hits; you can really hear that in this song.

Also, neither vocal style nor lyrical content can define a genre. Quit saying that.

  • Djent is a heavy metal music subgenre that emerged as a spin-off from progressive metal.

  • 2 of 2

Sure Djent can incorporate a progressive and industrial sound borrowing polyrhythm madness influenced by Meshuggah. I've been listening to all the major Djent bands and can relate Periphery to an extreme form of Killswitch Engage like sound not that should be taken as an insult to Djent, because if it weren't for bands like KSE and Shadows Fall, Djent and Deathcore wouldn't have the sound they do today, and may never even existed at all! Djent has mass potential, but it's to new to tell.

  • @metalrageson

The only support you have for your metalcore/deathcore claim is the fact that they use the "Metalcore structure of both screaming and singing". That's fucking bullshit, I've seen bands from every genre ever do that, and guess what, tonnes of fucking prog metal bands do it! god damn you're a mad cunt brah.

  • 1 of 2

I don't know why people throw Meshuggah into the Djent classification, because Meshuggah is not a Djent band by any means. Sure they play 8 string guitar tuned a half step down, but by no means are a Djent band. Djent is the second subgenre to Metalcore along with Deathcore. Much like Latin is the parent language of English and German. Djent is related to both Deathcore and Metalcore why? Unlike Meshuggah, Djent bands use the Metalcore structure of both screaming and singing.

  • @metalrageson Y'know Djent is just the term used to describe the guitar tone created by Meshuggah and copied by a lot of these new Progressive bands. Stop acting like a know it all. This community hates people like you.

  • Does anyone else hear tesseract?

  • traditional prog has an entirely different sound to djent... maybe djent was originally coined to describe the 4 note "Meshuggah" power chord, but I think djent bands definitely have a distinct sound, and djent is a perfectly good word to describe it.

  • @TFTimotheus HATER haha

  • Why the hell aren't they using the sound John Browne uses for his blackstar demo???????

  • @mikeyvolitionband i think that came later

  • Man I love youtube! I can find all these amazing bands that I barley ever heard of! I find music that aren't as popular way better! This is music >:O

  • @trickjack111 then hope SOPA doesnt ban youtube music videos D:

  • @Decomrades1 why are you talking to me?

  • @Decomrades1 lolol

  • The "HD" audio is not HD, thats all that matters whether its your fault or not. and its not even that big of a deal that it isnt. i made a simple comment, now people are freaking out

  • shitty audio quality....so much for HD huh

  • @JohnPetrucci251 Um... Blame YouTube, idiot.

  • @JosefHolub18 lol ok, i see hundreds of other Youtube videos without this problem. The problem doesn't lie with Youtube

  • @JohnPetrucci251 Dude... nearly 30 thousand people listened to this song, 220 likes and 2 dislikes, assuming you are probably one of the 2 people who disliked this video just because of your shit audio from your PC or Laptop. Please, seriously if you going to fucking complain about some audio quality you shouldn't be listening to this then. Clear as that, go fix your audio quality, you dumb fuck. I hate people like you that complain about silly little things!

  • @JosefHolub18 For one, I did not dislike this video. Two, I am listening on my PC with a high end sound card with Audio Technica ATH M50 headphones, so I have quite the capability for good audio quality. Three, I came to this video assuming it would be with good audio quality (hence the [HD] in the title) only to find out that it isn't. There is nothing wrong with my sound quality. And finally, I am not complaining, I am just pointing out a fact, don't get all defensive about silly little things

  • @JohnPetrucci251 Just because you got a high end audio card does not mean there cant be issues found. Most of all,I am not getting defensive at anything, but it's annoying when people like you go out"pointing out"& say silly little things. You are accusing me for being defensinve about silly little things, when in fact you posted a comment & I replied to your crap. When uploading HD vdeo's or songs on YouTube you do realise that it looses some of the it's true HD sound quality.

  • @JosefHolub18 Lol, I realize that Youtube compresses its sound quality, but at the same time this is even close to HD quality. Even if this was how the original song sounded (say even through a .flac file), the sound is not high quality. Im not trying to be a troll, because I appreciate the music. Just pointing out what nobody seems to be doing, whether that's your fault or not

  • @JohnPetrucci251 Let me guess this straight. Are you specifically blaming me as an "Uploader" of this song on YouTube for this bad "Sound quality"which you referring to is my fault? Or is your comment general?Either way, that's how this song was recorded.I share no production to this song what-so-ever as you know.I only uploaded this in(HD Quality)so what happens to the sound(Which I think is pretty good, and I don't hear nothing bad regarding the quality)Is entirely your opinion.

  • @JosefHolub18 I never said I was blaming you. I've repeatedly said I was just pointing out a fact. The audio is bad. Then you took up defense. If you can't tell that this isn't good audio quality then I don't know what else to say. Just because you upload it in HD doesn't make the actual audio any better. Either way, i'm not trying to start an argument here. My comment wasn't even directed towards you as the uploader in the first place

  • @JohnPetrucci251 Also for the record. I suggest getting in contact with the band itself, or producer/composer who helped record this song for the band. Maybe you should go and say that to the person about your problem on how shit the HD sound is to the band. Please, grow up. Nothings perfect, you fucking troll.

  • @JohnPetrucci251 that is how it was recorded dude. obviously you don't know what you're talking about.

  • @jesuslovesmebetter Don't know what I'm talking about? Okay... I should go and stop wasting my time about this silly fucked up argument.

  • @JosefHolub18 i was talking to the other guy dude read the fucking name

  • where can i get this album from? its not on itunes

  • @squiffyk7 The album actually hasn't been released yet.

  • @Dimebag08RIP oooh? :o any release date?

  • @squiffyk7 Not a clue man, I'd say even Browne himself doesn't know. I think they're looking for a new vocalist right now.

  • Grooviest metal song ever.

  • im so high.

  • Could anyone a link for lyrics or something? song is badass

  • This is giving me goosebumps man... Incredible. So glad I came across these guys!

  • @yourcityyourfun I completely and utterly concur! And Have absolutely no idea, but I'd love to hear if he hass!! and its a shame that Monuments has had a lack of material in the past they have tons of potential! and not to mention they also need a new singer! unless if they already have gotten one.... :p

  • vocals remind me so much of Sikth....

  • this bands looking for a singer right now, go on their facebook to find out more.

  • True DJENT-ertainment

  • @SmokeMonster87 Great comment, made me laugh hard for like a good 2 minutes.

  • @JosefHolub18 LMFAO

  • My best friends sister is going out with the guitarist

  • @mollielovesmetal

    Doesn't make you any cooler.

  • @mollielovesmetal You tell that cool story at parties too bro?

  • @itsnicksharpbro Made my day.

  • @mollielovesmetal so what, u know a groupie...

I know a lot of groupies, sluts, whores and gold diggers too... whats your point?

  • I can't find tabs for this song :( does ANYONE know where I can find them?

  • @mmcolony I've made a very rough one if you want it. email me ainsleywalker@hotmail.co.uk

  • @RudyChickenz ever hear of Disharmonic orchestra?I need no lessons in English especially to understand that this band is a total hack on Mnemic who also wasn't that great.

  • @EBBadd1 haha, you fail. This is awesome!!!!

  • I don't get the point of this music. Is it trying to send us a message?

  • @Alejandroperezpita whatever you think of it is what you take from it dude

  • @neilorourke71 Exactly. You'll only like it if you wanna like it. Makes my head hurt.

  • You guys are unbelievable. I will not do this again. Djent = A SOUND ANY GUITAR CAN MAKE. I "djent" on my classical guitar all fucking day, it doesn't make it a genre of music.

  • @gamuelaboratory The 'djent' you hear on the guitar and the genre 'djent' have become two different definitions. Although the latter was named after the former.

  • Am I the only one that doesn't really care for Meshuggah? I mean, yeah, they helped create the style of playing, but there are so many bands out there that just..I don't know, use melody more and create more memorable compositions than constant djent-ing polyrhythms.

  • @trace632 Hard to say. They're a real hit and miss band but I still find some of their songs the most listenable of the genre, if you can call it that. 'Rational gaze', 'combustion' and 'strings pulled at random' never get old in my opinion. The genres certainly a lot bigger than them though so I can see where you're coming from

  • beautiful

  • :nyant:

  • @JosefHolub18 check out got-djent dott comm, there are almost a thousand djenty bands now :D

you can sort them by popularity, where you should try the the bands on the first 2-3 pages, you'll get new favourite bands i promise :D

  • no dislike... noticed that this only happens at metal videos?

  • @derdudeldadelmetal good thing you pointed it out so the trolls just got something to eat

  • this is brutal, check out cloudkicker and chuimpspanner

  • this is so great! i hereby add them to my favourite djent bands

  • can anyone point me in the direction towards the lyrics? i can't tell everything he's saying and I'm just curious

  • saw the videos of them opening for periphery, mike malyan it´s a fucking genius

  • after going on a trip with a bunch of metalheads, it feels great to finally listen to more djent..

god, it's like my ears haven't masturbated for years.

  • it's funny, this is probably one of the worst djent mixes I've heard, but I love the song. I think that's sayin something. :)

  • Melodic djent is definitely the best!

  • @EBBadd1 Disharmonic and noise and pointless? Go learn music please, seriously.

  • @EBBadd1 Y U NO LEARN MUSIC

  • @EBBadd1 disharmonic, noise and pointless?

    - Definately not sure if serious.

  • @EBBadd1 I think the word you might be looking for is dissonant. Lrn2English.

  • Comment removed

  • This doesn't sound at all like mnemic. Maybe a little.. but no.

  • @EBBadd1 How in the world can you compare this to Mnemic?

  • @EBBadd1 You very clearly know absolutely nothing about tonal harmony.

  • this a psuedo-messuggah/ born of osiris band....but they make it work, and work quite well. kudos to this band

  • @SATANECRONOMICUS psuedo? How is it fake or implying it's anything other than what it is? BOO is a metalcore version of Meshuggah anyway. This is merely progressive death metal. Djents just an onomotapaeia

  • Its not stereo?!!! WTF

  • I hear they split up! such a shame

  • Vocals reminds me of Sikth...

  • Has anyone actually figured out the lyrics yet?

I can't find them online anywhere, but some people are better at hearing them than others.

All I got is "Why the fuck do we fall to our knees for the corporations?"

And maybe "We fear the system cause the system will reuse you (? ) We are the foundation."

Still no idea if that's right.

  • @TheManSpider Yeah, I'm really dying to find out the lyrics as well!

  • the vocals sound like a mixture of Meshuggah or something and Incubus O_o

  • @illi47 Sikth.

  • Comment removed

  • @illi47

    fred durst imo xD

  • @Xtreme090

thanks, i dont think i can ever listen to this band again xD

  • Undeniably brilliant stuff !! :) One of the best Djent bands in my opinion

  • these guys and fellsilent are the only djent bands im feeling theyre the only ones that have somewhat of a groove

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx Tbh...there's more djent bands with real groovs out there too.

  • @JosefHolub18 i know but im heavy into deathmetal dno why this does it for me but its pretty sick

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx periphery/bulb and the ever popular meshuggah bro

  • @jwthemaggot obvously i listen to meshuggah i dont count them as a djent band they are a machine all of their own... all these new up comming djent bands are just meshuggah clones... bulb is an incredible guitarist but periphery is so gay

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx how is periphery gay? i mean i understand what you think about meshuggah, but periphery being gay? i dont agree whatsoever.

  • @jwthemaggot unno man just that vocalist i cant handel that shit. i mainly listen to bands like deicide, hour of penance, fleshgod apocaylpse, injested, vomitory. i think you could see how periphery wouldent cut it for me. just opinion. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx i catch your drift bro, and we all got something different that floats our boats haha

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx you without a doubt have heard of Periphery but if not check them out, they're really groovy. Its all a matter of taste.. me personaly with these kind of bands certain elements need to meet my requirements i.e. the singer has to scream and write lyrics a particular way and also clean vocals... but more importantly the overall sound of the music... this band and periphery do it sooo good

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx Volumes, Persaeus, Behold Oblivion, Invocation, Periphery, Aristeia, The Contortionist, old After the Burial, Tesseract, Vildjharta, Cyclamen, Haunted Shores. Lol theres tons out there!

  • @emann43 i like all after the burial but the rest of those bands dont cut it for me

  • @emann43 PERFUCKINGSAEUS! God I love that band. And Behold Oblivion(did you know the Eric Lee is in Afterimage?)

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx periphery have got a bit of a groove on

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx TesseracT.

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx TesseracT.

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx Surely Periphery?

  • @crazydragonpuncher dont like em

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx Volumes, Bermuda, and Struc/Tures.

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx Go check out TesseracT. Very groovy. watch?v=9eKh8_Nriso -or- watch?v=xYhfH59OLC8

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx Listen to Vildhjarta

  • @amaurys93 vildhjarta is so fucking awesome =D

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx AAL is pretty damn goovy, if you haven't looked into them yet...

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx their groove reminds me of vildjharta you might like them

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx Try TesseracT.

They're less complex, but they have really sick grooves as well.

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx PERIPHERY BRO!!!!!

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx periphery are good too

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx PERIPHERYYYY, LOVE THAT SHIT MOTHER FUCKER

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx check out Vildhjarta

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx Dude right now go look up Animals As Leaders, Periphery and Vildhjarta. Theres plenty more good ones but those are my top 3.

  • @megahayven1234 I never heard of Vildhjarta until I read your comment, checked them out and my verdict--------------------->awesome

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx Shame Fell Silent are no longer around

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx Dude...Animals as Leaders???

  • @MoFroMoe animals as leaders are progressive, you made me sad by implying their djent :(

  • @EpiicDeMiiC Djent=Slang word for progressive metal.

  • @MoFroMoe djent=a style of playing guitar.

  • @xmattlovesyoux So I see our perspectives are different.

  • @xmattlovesyoux Djent=Slang word for progressive metal. I still assert that I hate the word, even though that's how all of this music is being labeled. The only time I say it, is when searching for more. Otherwise, I say that I like progressive metal.

  • @TFTimotheus Actually, djent is used to describe the low end sound that 7 and 8 strings have. Personally for me it's just describing the sound I could care less about it being a "genre".

  • @Bikerboi13 It's not, it was originally coined for describing the sound of 4-string power-chords. Nothing to do with extended range guitars.

  • @Joesus5000 4 string power chords in the low end range lol.

  • @Bikerboi13 Considering most actual "djent" is done in standard tuning, no.

  • @TFTimotheus djent =/= progressive metal. While they may be related they are not one in the same. Tool and Opeth are examples of non-djent prog. Djent actually came from the sound created from a lot of palm muting.

  • @TFTimotheus Prog and prog death to the end!

  • @TFTimotheus There is a distinct difference between Djent and Progressive Metal. The main reason being the low end given on the gutar that distinctly stands out from progressive metal. Look deeper into it and you might be able to see the differences for yourself.

  • @MistyRidgeOfficial This, Djent is onomatopoeia for the typical sound of Djent music, just like early thrash and similar metal could be described as having a "chugging" rhythm due to palm muted power chords, djent is characterised by the sound of low, short sharp extended power chords played on the lower strings of an extended range guitar.

Progressive metal and Djent are two different beasts entirely, although there are points when they overlap such as Amogh Symphony.

  • @TFTimotheus It's not a slang for progressive metal. It's a slang for the tone or whatever. Lots of progressive metal bands that don't use that style. Opeth for instance, very prog but no djent.

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx open your eyes man :)

  • @q0w1e2r3t4y5 lmfao i have opened my eyes... ive explored djent a little but id much rather listen to death metal

  • @xADEAN4DIMEx imo you're judging djent with a narrow sight. now stick to your death metal, but don't forget to try again later :)

  • Thall

  • Theres nothing quite as beautiful in this world as Djent perfected!

  • This sure is odd

  • This is amazing, but it makes me miss Fellsilent. This is still a step forward though.

  • when the guitar comes in... that rhythm just.... ffffffffuckn.... awwwwyeah.... dj-dj-dj-dj-dj-deow-dj d-d-dj-dj-dj-dj-d-djeow-d. so good

  • That snare.

  • love this song!!!

  • Hi! :) How do I do to download Monuments' discography??? I haven't find it anywhere! Please help me!

  • @memafgay try emusic . com ??

  • @memafgay bit torrent.... how did you even get this far with tech metal lol

  • Comment removed

  • @memafgay Maybe you should buy it if you like them...

  • This is some real 'traditional' djent. Awesome chugga groove and some siff fucking high gain - palm mute combo...

  • Fuck sake i cant get this to go any louder.

  • Woot! Lost Prophets totally upgraded since changing their name and going djent.

  • @fauxnim I'm glad you agree, but let's try not to hate. I let my opinion slip on one of Bulb's videos and he actually reponded, he was pissed. XD

  • @hrodvi o.O You need help!
