if you listen to all the lyrics its just a song about being disappointed and what most musicians hafta deal with. You ain't gonna make enough money to survive unless you get lucky this song hits a chord with me everytime i listen to it its why its my favorite Reuben song such spot on lyrics
Does anybody know what he says at the beginning? I'm assuming it's something about piracy given the subject of the song and his negative view of whoever he's talking about.
Think it's directed at people in the music industry with the a business like any other part and that it's ruining music with labels only in it for the money.
@reversegenesis You don't see in this vid, but before this someone throws a t shirt on stage with names on it, he reads them out and then says "This songs for all them bastards"... ie the guys in the crowd.
the problem is they just dont' have enough of us to make it worth it! they spent 8 years on the verge of making it huge. the sad part is if your around that long n haven't made it you prob aren't. Just wish i had found them before the end. Missed something great!!!!
@DeathFromAbove1981 I doubt that actually, I don't see Reuben changing their sound as much as Biffy did. Well if Reuben stuck around of course. They could have gone with much radiofriendlier radiosingles (Best Enemies, Good Luck, Act of Kindness, Agony Agatha)
Yeah just thought they definitely had a good ear for a melody and have done some more radio friendly stuff, I mean go back to early Biffy, there's some crazy sounding heavy stuff there, you wouldn't have believed they'd be getting the airplay they are now listening to that. Blitzkreig wouldn't sound out of place on a radio1 daytime playlist.
@jelgerw Yeah but look at the stuff from their first album..Moving to blackwater, Freddy Krueger. Hell if they had released Dusk that might have broke them through. Even if you listen to the end B-sides of 'We Should have gone to University' that could have kept them doing what they want without changing style.....fuck I miss these guys. Wish I had gotten in to um before they had broken up...
@DeathFromAbove1981 Not really. Biffy seems to have pandered somewhat to get bigger. I'm not saying they're sold out, because it's their own evolution as a band. I have more respect for Reuben because they evolved but kept their sound.
And they're from Aldershot which is a 20 min drive from me... :)
a critique on the music industry from presumable personal experience ....is why this may be one of the greatest songs by reuben , and this attitude and style is what makes them so good, and probably the reason they wernt mainstream, which is a damn shame
so amasing this guys... every time i listen to them i get amused... this is real music... i think they never got the credit they deserved... no words can actually describe it...
its on the what happens in aldershot stays in aldershot dvd set, it has a documentry about them, some extras and this gig. my friend bought it at a gig when they were still together, but i cant find it anywhere else, its such a shame... but hey, we all have the new dvd to look forward to dont we?

@stevestander, no one made you listen to Reuben buddy, my question is, if you don't like them, why are you watching their videos?
Next time, as Reuben once said, keep it to yourself.

Simply brilliant.
One of those gems in music that don't get the recognition they deserve.
