It is like retiring in Anchorage - it is annoyingly hot as Alaska is annoyingly cold. Plus it is expensive. Darwin really a place to go if you are working, and is not a place to chill out
I was born in Darwin. It's a lovely town(or city?). Spent the first 9 years of my life there. Very beautiful. Then I moved to Wales, UK - huge difference. and Now i live in brsibane. w00t. Making a driving vid on surfers paradise or something :)
No worries. I liked your idea of filming using your camera. The road where Bunnings was looks so different. The trees are bigger. Thanks anyway for filming this.
I'm probing a bit, but you said 'This is my church!' when you drove past Sarib Street near Potters House and the Islamic Centre on your left. Which one is your church?
I don't live in Darwin anymore, but I used to go to Casuarina Uniting Church, the one wedged in between the Potters and the Islamic Centre. It's got yellow walls and blue gutters - like Bananas in Pajamas!
Having grown up in Darwin, and witnessing the introduction of roundabouts, I was at first sceptical. But now, depending on the intersection, I feel that roundabouts are a much better solution.
I did a video 20 years ago for my grandparents of Darwin and did things like went to Mindil Beach, East Point, Lee Point, Buffalo Creek, Stokes Hill Wharf, Doctors Gully etc. Places of some interest that they'd seen years before.
Do you reckon you could do it again, and this time actually point out stuff - like, what road your on, what suburb, maybe some features. This was just a continuous pile of dribble. I used to live in Darwin and got excited when I saw an 8 minute video of it, and really, it did nothing but let you talk about yourself.
um, why do you go to church, you do know that jesus and god do not exist!! and how do you know people on the gold coast dont take their four wheel drives four wheel driving, because i know for a fact that alot of them do.
Hi from Florida. As tropical1973 says, a lot of the drive seems to remind me of Florida in the dry season. And we sure get a lot of lightning! I have definitely saved this on my playlist, thank you.
I've been told by another friend of mine (a text-blogger) who lives in Florida that Northern Australia are very similar to one another. This makes me want to visit Florida a lot because I grew up in this climate!
I completely agree with you about the roads. I love driving there, and people are generally considerate and non-aggressive - I wish the same could be said for where I live.
No, I think the Chinese were in the gold fields in Victoria long before Darwin was really even around! Still, I get what you mean, considering Darwin is so close to the rest of Asia.
You're half right. The gold rush happened in Australia in the 1850s, and the settlement of Darwin did not happen until 1869. However there was a large Chinese population in Darwin from the 1880s onwards. In 1911 Chinese people outnumbered European people by 4 to 1. There was a Chinatown, but due to the combined efforts of WWII and Cyclone Tracey, it is just not around any more.
Hello from Florida...I like the video. A lot of the landscape out there reminds me of Florida, from what little I can see in the vid. I'd like to visit Oz sometime, but it's too damn expensive, I gotta really save up....
Flying OUT of Oz is just as expensive so I know what you mean!
This video didn't really show the nice bits of Darwin at all - I'm still trying to figure out a way I can do that without being boring. Still, I'm glad you liked it : )
sing! sing!you shoudl so sing! dont take it wrong, your comitating is good but coz there're so many red lights etc, you could just break out into a song lol.
Maybe I will... Actually a singing video is on my list of videos that I will never make. As to date I've made one of those videos, one with my shirt off.
Thanks for posting this. It seemed like the sticky tacs worked!! I'll have to get some of those. Darwin looks beautiful. I've been to Australia but I missed out on Darwin. Thanks RoboFillet...great vlog. : )

Considering that this place was named after Charles Darwin, there doesn't seem to be much evidence of evolution.

Darwin never gets cooler than 15 degrees, or warmer than 35 degrees. It does get very humid, though. It is in the tropics.

Is their a china town or something? if so you should go their. They would all be like WTF.
kolalajoe 4 years ago
China Town in Darwin has been planned and 'coming soon' for about eight years now. It just hasn't worked out for some reason.
RoboFillet 4 years ago
That's odd because I think darwen was one of the first places in australia to have chinese. Maybe not hmm.

No, I think the Chinese were in the gold fields in Victoria long before Darwin was really even around! Still, I get what you mean, considering Darwin is so close to the rest of Asia.
