  • Let's not forget Jerome Kern who wrote the music

  • Black and white or color, Ramon was almost too beautiful to be real!

  • i love the song!

  • Poor Ramone, he met such a sad end. I remember reading about it in the New York newspaper. He was such a talent, very sad.

  • Ramon had a wonderful voice! He was also a concert level pianist.

  • Yes thank you. From a long time admirer of Ramon Navarro's talent and beauty. Jeanette goes without saying but she had her due. He didn't although he was one of the greatest silent screen lovers and stars. To you Ramon, wherever you are!

  • Ah, romance! Jerry Kern wrote some wonder-ful tunes, didn't he? Yeah.

  • Many thanks for posting this! I adore early, three strip TC. And Jeanette MacDonald is as wonderful as ever!

  • yes-- it would be lovely if all known surviving early color footage could be restored (if needed; there is something to seeing them 'as is'). I would certainly pay for a great compilation disk, along with a historical review of the early color processes. On an aside, I agree with an earlier comment--that dude is HOT.

  • This is a great post and I too would put up money for a compilation/1for1/whatever. I think the copywrite owners need to put some thought and effort into a DVD or blue-ray release before 80% of we baby boomers fall off the perch and the value of their investment in the ownership is reduced to zip. Jeanette's great; I'm sorry but I'm not sure about the dude.

  • Delightful video clip, which I've never had the opportunity to view before. The choruses in these old musicals are something special and add a whole other dimension to the stage atmosphere.

    Thank you for this posting.

  • I own this video since it was not available in DVD. They need to make more of Roman's films on DVD! That is taking sooooo long?

This man was so talented and was a good comedian too. Who says Latino's arent hot!?

  • Mod60s, I envy you. I love Jeanette and own many of her movies but not this one, The cat and the fiddle. Do you know where I can buy a copy? Love the music and want to see more.

  • I am pretty sure I bought on Amazon! I am a big fan of Ramon. The both of them play the parts perfectly. Its a true classic, I urge everyone to buy it!

  • Thank you so much for the information. I shop on Amazon. I will start my search immediately. Thanks again

  • wow! look at that color! and so early-

  • Very nice to see this rare colour clip.

    Thanks for posting

  • It's obviously the two strip process..there are no green elements in any of this. The process was used untill 1934. It's sad that this wasn't preserved better. If I'm wrong and it is three strip process it is a terrible shame. I love this film! Thanks for posting.

  • No its not two-strip. It was the blue, purple and yellow colours that was more or less impossible to get in two-strip. This clip was the first use of the new three-strip process in a live action sequence. So of course it's not perfect, neither is my copy of it.

  • Yes, this is the first use of "three strip" Technicolor in a live action sequence

  • Note the deep green of Victor Florescu's suit. and the yellow colors in the last backdrop.

  • Thanks for the info. I don't think this current print we're seeing was very well preserved if it was the three strip process. It is a shame that they couldn't restore it to it's former glory. Because most three strips even the early uses were far superior looking to what we're seeing here. Let's hope that someone will decide to restore this film. If they have all the elements I have no doubt that it would look decidedly different than this.

  • Yes, MGM should restore this film properly.

  • @whurdsderodan - There are green elements in some of the background scenary. Also there is too much shade variation in the face tones for it to be a two-color process.

  • Such a pity that the classic Busby Berkley musicals weren't shot in color. It would've added whole new depth to the viewing experience.

  • Visually and Vocally stunning

  • Due to a mix-up with the titles I had to replace this clip. Now the title is correct. Thanks for spotting this.
