  • FOR THE 12 DISLIKES MAYBE IF YOU TURN YOUR DEVICE UP SIDE DOWN MIGHT REALIZE SUCH A GREAT PIECE OF ART TO LISTEN TO ....

  • "I shall now perform an Orwellian flip-flop"

    ...180

  • Ready? Pronto? hahaha

  • #OWS

  • I love how I often don't (fully) understand what Radiohead songs are about.

  • Another song contains the word "chink..." I love this song!

  • Man!

Tom York has the widest range for any man i've ever seen. He hits higher notes than most chicks i know!! He's a beast, LIVE ON!!!

  • maybe the lyrics are some kind of joke?^^

  • your future's bleak.

    You're so last week

  • it is flip-flop (down is the new up, hello!) but its not an Orwellian one! its a 180 flip-flop :-)

  • lol :).. "what if i just flip flopped".. how the hell did you get that :D..?

  • Fix those lyrics...

  • the lyrics are horribly wrong

  • i dont think that lyrics are right. its sad they dont give they lyrics and there are a lot of different versions in net and peolpe dont know which are good. for me its a big problem.

i love him and radiohead. his voice. that emotions. i have no words. more than love

  • His voice, especially the vibrato, here is so fucking delicious. Thom Yorke... you're the man.

  • does anyone know on the recorded version when the low voice comes in saying "won't you be my baby" whether this is thom yorke or ed coz if its thom i think it's the lowest i've heard him

  • Is that ring that thom is wearing from his marriage, because that finger is not usually use for that

  • he's not married, so no :)

  • um yes he is

  • definately not.

  • yes he's married, also he have a son, thom wrote "sail to the moon" to his son..

  • whenever thom's significant other is referred to, she's always referred to as his partner, and not his wife. almost positive hes not married. do a little reading.

  • great song! great band!.

  • Comment removed

  • "off" and left us...

  • also

    Caught on Candid Camera

    You're on Candid Camera**

  • I could listen to thom on the piano and singing

    all day

  • oh my science. this is insanely incredible.

  • "Ready?"

  • Просто неповторимо

  • I shall now perform an Orwellian flip-flop

    I shall now perform a one-eighty flip-flop**

  • Watch when he say weeeek! at 2:12 :D heheheh :)

  • Hahaha adorable.

  • Absolutely amazing!

  • It's on the In Rainbows Bonus Disc and it's phenomenal. It's only available on the disc box version though

  • i havent heard a studio version of this . does anyone know how i can?

  • it's the third result when you search "down is the new up" on youtube.

  • fricking phenominal. thom you're simply the best. love you dude!

  • this is amazing.

but i really like the drums in the album version.

  • his solo stuff is by far the best material.

'analyse' and 'cymbal rush' just blow me away.

    such a legend.

  • I have to agree with you there. Although And it rained all night totally gives me the chills.

  • absolutely amazing.

  • Perfect!

  • this is incredible

  • sublime

  • @ 0:06 Seconds Thom SAys:"...Ready." & another quote from Scotch Mist...One of my fav's from Thom..."Ready Freddy"!. God how I love that man.

  • the man can't read musical notes but can play every instrument in the band.

    that's just pure talent

  • is it really so?

    he's talant, but this can't be true=|

  • yea dude, none of them can read music except Johnny Greenwood.

  • ya im the same way haha.... i play drums piano and bass and no sheet music either...... i think a lot of rock musicians don't read sheet music

  • but its important to say that the reason is not laziness. Thom Yorke once said that reading sheet music doesn't really mean anything and that you cant express music with simple notes

  • It's true that sheet music can't truely express the soul behind a person's music, but it is useful, especially in situations where you have to play something on the fly that you've never heard before (i.e. having a tune called on a jazz gig)

  • this does not sound live

  • it def. is

  • JUST FLIP FLOP

  • Ready? Nigel?

  • This was like fall 2006

  • Ua Ke Gentleman

  • when was this?, 2008?, what month?.

    sorry, just interested.

    good video, though.

the song I feel, is really raw, I love it.

  • It is not supposed to be classical music. He's a singer/songwriter, not a technical genius. He's brilliant in his own right, no need to demand some kind of classically trained virtuosity.

  • I think it is better to be a musician of true heart & soul rather than just classically trained. Thom Yorke is admired by all the world---particularily by ME!!!(I Also am not trained at all...FYI)It's all from the heart.

One reason why I admire & respect Thom with all my being!

  • this should have been on the actual in rainbows.. but as ed obrien says"things need to fit together

  • mostro

  • yeah. but down goes a lot faster.

  • lo amo

  • life is lame, but without the downs there can be no ups.

    :)

  • Ive never heard anyone put it as well as you but i totally agree with you

  • idoloooo

  • lo idolatro

  • hahahah, love the end of this song...beautiful voice :)

  • Someone have the piano scores of this?? plz tell me

  • genio

  • totalmente de acuerdo

  • I dont understand why he says that he is a shity piano player in some interviews...

  • Because he is an artist, not a pianist. He plays triads with shifted octives (sound fucking brillent, I've learned alot from his playing) but he doesn't do anything beyond basic chords. His voice and unbridled emotion sell his songs. I should clarify, he still kicks arse on piano, but he says he's simplistic in his work.

  • @ScriabinFanatic ... understand what?

  • I think the lyrics are what is a buttercup instead of What if I just flip-flopped? and I shall now perform an 180 flip-flop instead of I shall now perform an Orwellian flip-flop

  • What is up, buttercup.

    180 flip-flop

  • thom has been known to change the lyrics of a song... just take idioteque for example, every recorded version is different... i wouldn't look too deeply into it. i'm pretty sure that the listed lyrics are the ones from in rainbows, but don't hold me to that.

  • there's nothing new about them but yes, John Lennon would be proud.

  • the new beatles!

  • Don't insult radiohead like that.

  • So..WTF is this about? let me preface with a yes, i like.

  • Tight!

  • Can you download this song anywhere & if you can please tell me I think the is just "wow"

  • Its off the 2nd disc released with In Rainbows, the special edition. Pretty much a whole nother album. This is definately the highlight of the cd tho.

You can buy the special edition (which includes vinyl, so not cheap. Or maybe try iTunes. OR its most definately on torrent sites.

  • Thanks

  • wher can i get this i love it please tale me

    pease out danmark

  • what chords does he hit?

  • Makes me think of muse.

weird, normally I don't associate radiohead with Muse.

  • Maybe because you listened muse first. But i'm sure that that is radiohead and thom yorke's own style, and muse copied a bit.

  • No, I have have known radiohead since a much longer time.

it's just the way he sings at 2-3 places... but it is surely radiohead's own style (L)

  • oh ok sorry for my misunderstood lol Enjoy listening Radiohead dude

  • how many songs did thom yorke perform in the basment at this time? and could anyone possibly name them for me?

and OMG if anyone has this song down is the new up can you please please please please please send it to me??

  • Actually The basement is where all the magic begins, as far as i know, the place belong to their head producer nigel godrich wich is almost the 6th member of Radiohead... he´s the magical brain who mixed up their musical thoughts for a while now... cheers, and have a great life...

  • Excelent- I love Radiohead!!

  • he says 80 flip flop, it sounds quite obvious that that's what he is saying.

  • 180 as in a 180 degree spin ;)

  • lol, i meant 180 not 80, just a typo

  • He amazes me more and more. Every single day...God, I'm so happy to be living at the same time with these guys

  • i feel the same way

  • It's "don't you be my girl"

  • i like pie

  • Genius.

  • in wish fucking album is this track?

  • the bonus disk of In Rainbows

  • in rainbows

    CD2

  • Also, he says "Your on Candid Camera" not "Caught" but thats not as important as the Orwellian thing. Something as specific as Orwellian can throw off a lot of interpretation

  • How are people hearing "Orwellian" flip-flop? Just b/c Thom is heavily influenced by Orwell doesn't mean every song is. He's definently saying "180 flip-flop..."

  • On the studio recording it's "Unaided flip-flop", which makes sense with the "Ladies and gentlemen, I'll now perform an" before it. Like some kind of circus trick.

  • my role model.

  • A musical Genius. Such a unique performer, such a unique man.

    Beautiful.

  • I don't think I have enough characters on text response to begin to explain how much of a lyrical genius Thom is. Love this song, and all of Radiohead's others.

  • I LOVE TTTHHHHOOOMMMM! (:

  • Love that clanky old upright!

  • great fucking song. the man is brilliant. couldve used some drum and bass atleast though

  • There "regular version" features the full band. They'll be playing it on this year's tour, trust me. They played it in '06, but have since made some revisions to it for the recording of the song... which appears on the second disc of In Rainbows (which was only available with the "discbox" w/ the vinyl). ANYHOO, the full band version sounds incredible (well, naturally).

  • amazing.

  • down is the new up and

    (U) is the new (L)

if u kno what i mean.

    (sigh)

    Thom for life man!!!

  • I don't like these windows messenger references. I find them offensive.

  • are you reffering to my comment from some days ago?

cause if you are, u are right. :P

it's obvious that i was in a pretty strange mood when i typed that...

i was listening to THIS song wasnt I??

  • What?

  • this is my favourite radiohead song , they are the best band ever

  • agreed. best. band. ever. no one else comes close.

  • This is a wonderful performance. He's awesome. I will always loyally love him as a musician.

  • You bastard

    You bastard

  • You crawled off and left us

You crawled off and left us

    You bastard

    You bastard

  • oh my god...

  • He IS God.

  • Radiohead is my favorite band by far, and has been since I started listening to them 12 years ago. Saying 'Thom is God' is exactly the kind of thing those guys want to avoid. One hell of a fine musician, and a true advocate for change. He'd probably frown about such a silly comment.

  • Yes, they do try to avoid comments like ''Thom is God''...but it's hard not to say it...The definition of God is somebody that can do super natural things..We can agree that Thom is super natural :) He brings joy to people's ears and lives, all across the world. Heck, he's better than God. Just fucking look at him.

  • Thom is a God of music. How bout that?

  • and its exactly why everyone likes him...its why i like him at least.

  • Wow!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is amazing, love Thoms solo songs. Fucking 5!!!!!!!!

  • 180 flip flop

    check your lryics

    :P

  • Beautiful version, I love both, but this is truely beautiful.

  • YOU CRAWLED OFF AND LEFT US/you bastard

  • i thought it was crawled off and lived on?

  • My god, so amazing!

  • Your lyrics are wrong. Check them over. :)

  • Im in love with this soul song!!!

  • haha saw his face at 2:12. cheeky.

  • comeonteamluca,

2:14/15 in fact. Seems quite happy. Luv when he does this face. Molto amore Radiohead el jefe

  • Caught on Candid Camera

    The chink in your armor

Topsy turvy town, topsy turvy town

    Shake your pockets out

Pass it on, pass it down

Topsy turvy town, topsy turvy town

  • "better solo than in radiohead"? - he is equally as brilliant - you can't take anything away from phil, JONNY, colin and ed... !!!!

  • I get chickenbumbs while watching his videos. They're amazing, and it's my opinion he is better solo than in Radiohead.

  • I think this one should have been on In Rainbows disc 2.The drums ruin this song, unlike the drums are cool caus it has 2 rithms mixed together in one loop. But still... drums are useless in this song.Love to wander around in the woods at night with this song;)

  • i like thoms voice usually but here... IT SOUNDS SO FUCKING POWERFUL! it really puts other boring singers to shame.

  • thom's face at 2:12.

    great song and amazing man

  • This is what they call a soul song

  • Man, Radiohead is AMAZING. End of story. They deserve way more respect than they get.

  • wow. excellent song, great lyrics and a stunning performance. is it just me or does Tom pour a lot of emotion into his songs? you can see that playing is his passion. Going to see them in June!!!! LONDON !!!

  • it sort of looks like a scene from a movie and its weird to think thats just him normally if that makes sense :S lol

  • amazing. Im speechless.

  • damn thom, youre fucking amazing.

  • I fucking LOVE this song! It's so perfect.

Thom Yorke for president of the universe

  • that wicked thom, he knows just the tunes that will resonate in the deepest darkest parts of my thoughts, with lyrics to boot.

  • I would like Thom to be my lover.

  • lol

  • Wonderful, gorgeous, great!! Every word is so useless... genius...

  • The Lyrics are great they reflect the shallowness and fickleness of modern society that seems to have no sticking power to any task and praises only spur of the moment impulses.

Ohh I see what you're doing there... clever! :)

  • Best song I've ever heard. Wish I could favourite a video twice.

  • I prefer this one over the album version, but they are both really good.

  • i love this man with all of my heart.

  • killer..
