this is better than gold and diamonds too me....it is so precious that i shall share it with everyone i can!!! levon get well soon, i will be at a midnight ramble as soon as i can afford it!
I saw the Band on one of their come back tours about late 84 in San Jose, CA, it wasn't published well and no one came I think there was six people in the audience and so we had a private concert. I will never forget dancing with members of the band we had a BLAST!!! Best concert ever Thank you so much Levon for your devotion to your work. Abbie
Levon Helm's voice is a national treasure, and we should appreciate it and cherish it, for THIS is the true music of America, the real roots, and to think that Mr. Helm was raised on a dirt farm then went on to become one of greatest drummer/singer/actor, and member of the rock and roll hall of fame. His acting can only be equalled by his huge musical talent. A remarkable musician, a mesmerizing actor, and a great human being. I am so thankful he is finally getting the recognition he deserves.
...Levon Helm is an inspiration -- as relevant now as in The Band's heyday, if that's possible. Unmistakable groove, voice of pure soul... with an integrity that shines through every frame of this short film. thanks much to the uploader. pilgrims all...
im 24 years old since june 23rd. and ive grown up on the music of The Band. and i cant wait to get Helm's new albulm. i just hope it comes out on a vinyl record so i can add it to my record collection.
In the early '60's as a teenager I used to see Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks at the Summer Garden in Port Dover,Ontario.Levon was the drummer and he was a master at vocal backphrasing. He is playing bass drum, snare, ride and hihat cymbals and fills and then can add this 5th rhythmic dimension with his voice which,as a musician,I know is an amazing feat.Any university that has a music program should study this amazing man and what he has contributed to the world of music .He's a rhythmic genius.
Well done. I recall, when I was a naive hitch-hiking 14 year old, hearing "Rock of Ages" in a ride I'd got-- had heard some songs, "Stage Fright", and "Don't Do It" two years earlier, and was pysched to find it finally! So, I guess I can relate- I listened to acid rock, but I followed The Band, too. Damn shame Danko and Manuel can't enjoy this happiness that Levon seems to have.
wow this is amazing it just lets you know wow here i am im really alive and roaming Gods greeen earth its what everyone needs to see and notice to be sucsessfull if you dont have God you have nothing
God, I must have this album. Calvary is a brilliant example how to make a song "heavy" without the least bit of distortion....just wonderful music all around. and mind-blowing that Helm kept his voice after throat cancer....
Am I the only one who thinks the guitar player bears an uncanny resemblance to the young Neil Young?
That sure rings true: When you're a boy, you can't wait to get off that tractor and away from the farm to go make a life out in the world. Forty years later you're thinking that if you could just do one little thing to leave your mark, you'd like to go on back home. Yes, Sir. That's the big circle, ain't it?
Long way from Cripple Creek to here, and before Cripple Creek, of course, but this tribute is certain i its step and in its feel and harkens back in a way that is brave and kind of magnificent.
nice little music movie! i used to work on dirt farms in upstate N.Y and worked in 2factories down in Arkansas, kind of a backwards Levon there. "Novel"? Thanks for the great and gritty music!
Mr Helm , thank you so much, i`m from a small town in Arkansas, and your so right. Funny and kinda an ironic twist to the video you did here is my fathers name is Mr. Gill and there was a man named Sammy who worked for him years ago. Sammy passed away long ago, but i felt like you were on our farm talking to my Dad. he lost his farm in the 80s with the drought. Sad, so many went under, that year.
levon has struck a chord in my life for 40 years. caught his act again 2 nights ago. there has never been more honesty in any voice or soul alive. thanks levon...
He still has work left to do here on earth and I would love to go to the Farm and see the barn and see one of the sessions. An old woman told me, as she had a 100 in her mouth, that you ain't gonna drown if you was meant to get shot, so it has not been his time. Thank God the business has not left him bitter and hard. One of the best CD's I have.
Love this man and all the honesty he stands for. He could have been hard and unforgiving and is not. An old woman told me one time, as she smoked a 100, that you ain't gonna drown if you was meant to get shot. It is not his time and he has honest work left to do.
Love this man and this CD. My sons and I send each other vids all the time and this is the latest one sent by one of them. What a story he tells and has much work left to do for his legacy. An old woman quoted to me, w/a 100 hanging out of her mouth that "You ain't gonna drown if you was meant to get shot". It just has not been his time. He needs to still be here. Would love to go to the farm.
Levon is right. All we got in SE Arkansas is poor black folks and jails. We try to get Japanese auto plants to move in, but they look around and head east. Damn sad.

Great film. The music is awesome! Levon has never sounded so good, and that's saying some, cause you know he always sounds awesome. This was a well-deserved Grammy. 5**** and faved.
I have always loved this man's singing. Listening to him is like going home. It doesn't matter what the song is about. Just the sound is warming to the heart, like family.

It'd be hard for me to ever move from here.

Way back in the 60`s when most were listening to 'acid rock', I was stuck on music by The Band.
Levon Helm Garth Hudson, Robbie... and I still listen to all them old albums to this day.
Levon hasn't lost a lick over the years and can still lift my spirits or make me look deep into my own soul.
I sure hope God blesses that old Pilgrim real, real good.
