Richards talks about the old bluesmen as coming from nowhere - and with just the "force of sheer talent and character...they laid something down"...Well, he's forgetting that America was their breeding ground for ideas, and that no matter the difficulties of being black at that time, it was America that laid something down for them; the table was set. Richards was in the right place at the right time - and although he didn't know it, he was helping to save the blues for its own renaissance...

They were outlaws in the sense that all they wanted to do was play music then were famous very fast, hounded, ridiculed and abused by the conservative status quo while at the same time adored by the rest.
