I hate the GBA version. Mainly because they screwed up the lyrics. Who came along and changed em. The origionals were better. Also the crap music and the actual voice sound makes this sound like crap. I could compare it to someone playing a piano and hitting wrong keys all the time. As well as that half the time Celes's upper body is blocked by the cieling of the castle at the start so you can barley see her where as SNES version didn't. GBA sucks SNES rocks. I dont mean the GBA itself sucks...
The GBA lyrics are infinitely better than the SNES version. Try to compare each note Maria/Celes sings to a syllable of the lyrics. The lyrics/melody go hand in hand in the GBA version but the SNES version misses a few beats or has too many syllables for a string of notes.
@justa16thnote honestly, I think the only difference that was a stupid change was the learn rates. It only adds to the already countless hours of unnecessary ap grinding.
I like the GBA version better since it better incorporates how Celes's voice would sound like. That is a majour factor when it came to the opera scene, in my opinion.
2. I liked the GBA version better, the words match the flow of the song much better, Celes doesn't sound like a robot :P, and the translation is more true to the original Japanese lyrics.
Yeah, accuracy aside, when you compare the SNES and the GBA translations of this scene, this one looks totally butchered. These words just don't flow well.
The SNES had a superior sound chip and a larger aspect ratio to enhance this scene as well, but that can't be helped. Would recommend to anyone watching this that they also search for and watch the SNES version.
What? I know it's two months old, but the lyrics were changed to rhyme and match the music more. Not nostalgic enough for you?
God I hate nostalgiafags. When there were mods to change FF7's shitty models to look better in the PC version everyone hated it for not being nostalgic enough and it didn't have enough "charm" (whatever the fuck that is) and I just fucking raged.
the gba had a better sound chip, but the snes sounded better anyways. HOWEVER, the gba did certain things like vocals better than the snes ever could. on the snes her voice was just a controlled beep. here, its for real.
@LamentOfInnocence It's a long debate over which had the better sound chip. I should note that the GBA had only two sound channels (+GBC) while the SNES had 8. But yes, the actual Celes vocals seem to have a slight advantage on the GBA. I'm really thrown off by the rest, though.
I found this part to be truly wonderful and one of the most beautiful parts of this game. The way they made the characters sing even without voices was breathtaking and the lyrics wrenched my heart and reminded me of the purity of love. Damn that's a good video game.
Look up "Darkness and Starlight" by The Black Mages. Song's in Japanese, but the vocals are stunning nonetheless. It's about 16 minutes long (includes the whole opera). There's also a 23 minute long version in Italian.
And to what AyJay 100 said, yes, when the DS remake comes out, there will be singing, you can count on it. =^-^=
The first time time I heard this I could have sworn the lyrics were different(and they're out of sync). The playstation version is much better (Anthology version) but I think the last part "Our love, come what may..." is better than the PS1 version's ending, but "I'll wait for you always" was better than "forevermore".
I think the various releases of the game used alternative translations, so the lyrics are different depending on whether you play the SNES, GBA or PS.
I know people are going to disagree, but I hated the GBA version of 6, VI is my all time favorite thats no question there, but I just didn't like the GBA version. However... I like how the opera house scene feels enhanced in the GBA version. it made that scene even more powerful
GBA version is good, but it has crappy music (minus this!!!! This is great!) and I think music quality is putting it lower position than SNES version, as afterall GBA version didn't have so much added.
Its not all that bad sure, at least not for its portability. So if your a fan of FF6 and really badly want to play it on a long trip well then FFVI:A is the answer, but if your at home with the option of the SNES or PSX version chances are you'd pick those (I use "you" in general not you as in Junafani)
I'm playing this game for the fourth time right now (once every two years ;-). And every time this scene is my favorite part. If they rereleased the game in 3D and left everything else the same, I would immediately buy it. It could then fight with FFVII for first place in my personal "best game ever" list!
wow..... The original was touching, but this one can't get through my heart. The dialouge of this version really dissapoints me and it's a bunch of fancy whatever slapped at each other!!! The SNES dialouge really was wonderful, unlike compared to the GBA version, in my opinion. Even though they are somewhat simialar....
hmm? Im impressed, from what Ive seen, this was actually an imrovement to what the snes had, contrary to most of the other music in the game. though Il still always love the snes version... I still prefer those lyrics

Though both versions follow the Phonetics to the song, you get 2 very different dialogues.
