I can say that after watching this drama for perhaps the 21st time, I cried 1 liter of tears per drama, the story of aya teaches us the lesson of never giving up no matter how hard your life is, live it and live on is what aya wanted to tell us.... I hope that wherever she may be now, she is happy.... the drama was magnificent. one of the best that I have watched....

Aya Kito was a real Japanese girl who got this disease in 1976 at age 14. She kept a diary for many years and she passed away in 1988 at age 25. The 2004 Japanese movie and the 2005 Japanese TV drama have the same name and both were made with Aya's mother's cooperation. The movie follows the diary and is a true story of Aya's life. The TV drama does not follow the diary and is a fictional love story that Aya's mother hoped that Aya could have but did not have in real life.
