Thanks for the info but sadly I got into mine and found that the disk drive itself was fried ah well someone gave me a free wii but at least I found out what was wrong with it, It still surfs the net and you can download games just cant play disk games anymore

For those who don't know, a tri-wing screw is a special type of "security" screw to prevent the average customer from unscrewing. Tri-wing screwdrivers are available at some hardware stores, but the ones I found were too big for the Wii, which requires one closer to a jeweler's screwdriver size. I bought mine online at Amazon for $4.50, including postage. Google it.

@badfish995 I'm not entirely sure, but I think all Tri-wing screwdrivers come with a magnet to prevent screws from falling off the tip and getting misplaced.

Something worth mentioning. In typical jap fashion, very very cheap screws are used and you may need a drill to remove them. I got all the way to removing the white bracket from the laser and it stripped. Why they didnt use torx screws, I will never know. Getting that bracket isnt easy as most laser replacements dont come with them. Fk you nintendo!

My Wii would not read game disks, so disassembled and cleaned the laser eye with a Q tip and rubbing alcohol like I have done before cleaning DVD players. There was a slot in the disk case where I could easily clean the laser eye. I only spent 2 dollars on a tri wing screw driver on e bay and its all good now and my daughter is so happy. Thanks.

I reassembled it and then tried to play a game. The disk is out and all, but my wii won't accept the disk. Why is this so? I haven't modded it at all and i only want to play brawl again. I've got a question that I was hoping someone here could relate to. When taking apart my wii, the 2 triwing screws that hold the front faceplate together are extremely stubborn and will not unscrew no matter how much pressure I put, they are becoming stripped and I'm freaking out about this.

Is it because my wii from an older generation? Noone else seems to have this problem.
