can anyone please tell me what psychedelic band, they were really unknown had a cover with like a red moon on it i heard them on youtube the other month and i cant remember what they were called any help is much appreciated
@harleybrewer99 I might have been the band Cold Sun & there Album 'Dark Shadows' it has a blue moon with a RED Tinge!! LOL!! Even if im wrong you gotta check it out! Its from 1970 & was un released until 89 & its AMAZING! They have been compared to the 13th Floor Elevators!! Bizzare Lyrics & Feedback Electric Autoharp!!
I had the good fortune of having dinner with Country Joe McDonald a few years ago. I told him how much I admired Pat's Song and asked him how he came to write the organ bridge part of the song. He told me that John Fahey had come to a concert without a guitar (!) and had borrowed Joe's. When Joe got it back, it was in a new and different tuning that he'd never run across before. He left it that way for several weeks and, while noodling around with it, he was inspired to write this song.
@squarepyramid99 Late response brother but got the answer. Him, his brother Larry, and dad Bernie all were into jazz and called each other with nicknames relating to a local jazz club. Gary was Chic, and Larry was Mic and the dad Bernie was thick papa. During the photoshoot of their first album cover they asked him for a nickname and when he gave them chic they somehow thought it was chicken. :) Good day man :)
CJ and the Fish's first album (electric music) was sensational, and i like 4-5 songs of their second album (fix'n to die)....... but does anyone know much about the quality of album's AFTER fixin to die?
The album after "Fixin to Die" was called "Together". It can't be said to be as good as the 2 previous, BUT had "Streets of our Town", "Waltzin' In the Moonlight", which are classics and maybe "Cetacean"..."Away Bounce my Bubbles"...worthy to hear and probably get. After THAT was a line-up change, in which various members of Janis Joplin's backing band Big Brother entered. They produced the 4th album "CJ Fish"...honestly i have never heard it,nor any of the following ones!
heard this played by John Peel about, ooh, fifteen years ago, and have not known the name of the track for that length of time... half my life i've been looking for this you could say! ha ha
Hey SquarePyramid many thanks! Although I still have a working turntable and a usable copy of the 1st two LPs, I fervently believe this music should last much longer and it only will through grass roots (both?) It amazes me often what gets lost and what lingers and CJ is right IMHO to wonder why they didn't get bigger even though the abrupt abandonment of psychedelia for rock 'n soul had something to do with it. I'd love to see Eastern Jam, Rock Coast Blues, etc here....
Sit in your room in the dark or light one candle. Also if you listen to this LP 1st left speaker only, hen right, it's a trip! Definitely a mood song. A great Album from an incredibly creative time in music history!
i`m continuously amazed by what shows up on you tube...gret songs that never got air time while very often typical mediocre stuff you hear over and over. if i was a dj youd hear this, youd hear jefferson airplane`s version of wooden ships to name just a couple of the many great but never heard. bravo for posting this.thanks
This was one of my favorite songs when it was released. I completely forgot about it! Saw Pat's song on the playlist and thought "didn't I used to know that song?" I was stunned at the memories it brought back, my tastes seem to have changed somewhat since the day, but still not a bad song. My thanks for posting it. I used to drive my parents crazy with this song, now that I am their age, I understand what they were putting up with. (Somewhat, at least) Peace out.
Tha lyrics are beautiful (:

I love the guitarists use of major scales in this song. I also like the effects he uses, the organ blends right into the guitar solo. groovy song!
