The original version is by Brainstorm and was written by members Belita Woods (who sang lead on it ) and Treaty Womack. It's still my personal favorite version of the song.
OK version, but , no offense intended, this sounds to me like watered down disco for white clubs. Brainstorm, Betty Wright and Sylvester rocked the shit out of this song!
Bollocks. It's a tatsefully done house remake. As for colour, I don't really associate clubs with being for blacks or whites, it's about the atmosphere and music. If you still think like that you need to grow up and get with the times...this isn't the 70s or 80s any more.
@djtimwright : At fifty years old I'm grown enough. You have your right to your opinion. I was clubbing when this tune was current and from these comments, it seems like there are enough people who agree with me. If the reference to race offended you, I'm sorry, but it is a reality that there is a different vibe in clubs that have a predominately black clientele as opposed to white. To show you how open I am, the absolute best partying I've ever done was at gay clubs, and I'm straight.
Oh, well in that case I salute your openness
If you really wanna talk about race and colour in clubs, predominately black clubs have a reputation (here in the UK) for attracting violence, knife and gum crime. Does it make me judge every club with a black crowd? No, I judge a club for what it is. To eliminate racism you have to stop viewing the world in separate colours. Maybe it is an age thing, but I've been brought up to think a club is a club, regardless of race.
As for the song, has it occurred to you that you're just being nostalgic? There's lots of things I like from my younger years but if a remake brings it to a new audience, surely that's a good thing?
@wmdbassplayer Ann Nesby and Steve "Silk" Hurley should be black enough:) And well, even super 60s and 70s music like Motown, Philly and Salsoul weren´t "black", "serious" or "soul" enough to many. I personally prefer this cover, except I think the beat is much to "pumped", but the vocal does it.
This is "OK" but the original not only had Belita Woods and her kick-ass vocal but she had that kick-ass band behind her, which is far better than what Nesby has backing her here. Also, I'm not crazy about the slowed down tempo. It just doesn't rock as much as the original.
I love Ann Nesby,i'm gonna have to give this one to Betty Wright! This version just laggs too much for me.

I agree. Apparently this tune can take a hit and still sound well. It lacks the energy of the versions you mention.
This is a sedated version for people with a heart condition ;)

Wonderful! Love this song. She sounds like Aretha at the end, with the shouts.....VERY nice!

Thanks for post. I luv Ann's Voice you have to have strong vocals to follow Belita Woods Brainstorm. But the soul from B. Woods voice just belts out.
