It's almost scary to see them run like this. It's so amazing. It looks so easy and relaxed, but they run at sub 3 min/km, which is bloody fast. Wish we could see the whole race though.
I found it completely useful in observing/studying the running mechanics/form of some of the worlds fastest distance runners. Just what I was looking for.
You can see how most of the runners have a forefoot strike near the beginning of the video, but as the race progressed, some started heel-striking. Haile had an efficient forefoot strike throughout the race.
Great footage! This guy is my new hero (next to Prefontaine). Marathons at 4:44 pace! Unreal. What I really like is he also does 10K too along with halves.
When you have the volume of oxygen uptake ability to run a marathon at a pace quicker than 4.50 per mile as Gebrselassie and a few other African athletes have then your stride length will be longer due to that fast pace.
BTW, I tried to bike at 22km/h (not race bike, just a normal one) and after nearly 15km I got out of breath. It's amazing that these guys can do 21km on foot, at the same pace!

Hey great video and well done keeping up with these guys on your bike. The video doesn't do their pace justice. Incredible.

Stride length and pure natural ability.

true but stride length partially comes from those god given legs.

Thats true i suppose.
