  • Yes PRickJr2448 and wam34 an evo is still a lancer an si is still a civic and this is still a neon thats why they are called mitsubishi lancer evolution's honda civic SI's and Subaru impreza wrx sti's just because its been tuned dosent remove the fact that it is what it is. All average cars made better with a little help.

  • 2003 SRT-4 came with No lsd and made 215 whp stock baseline pulls...2004 and 2005 came with bigger injectors and LSD and made 230 whp stock baseline pulls on a dynojet. NOW THIS IS WHERE IT GETS SWEET ..MOPAR UPGRADE KITS..STAGE 2 WITH BOLTONS 280 WHP WITHOUT BREAKIN A SWEAT. THE MOPAR STAGE 3 KIT WITH A DSP MAKES 350 WHP. So Please know your facts before you post. I can bet my money that 9 out of every 10 SRT-4 on the streets today are pushing at least 280 WHP Thanks to the DSP 93 TUNE!!

  • The NSRT4 is still fast even though it's been extinct for 6 years. All the haters are just jealous. The CSRT4 would have been king if they had used an AWD system.

  • To save even more money on an srt-4, buy a regular 5-speed neon. Pull the engine out of a caravan (or voyager). drop it into the neon. bolt up the 5-speed and add a junkyard turbo. I had a teacher in college do that and he used to beat stock srt-4's at the local dragstrips with it. BTW the engine in the caravan is basically the same engine as in the srt4, just detuned and non-turbo.

Also the newer Civic Si or Nissan Sentra Spec V are options as well, but they cost more, are slower in a straight line, & offer about the same gas mileage as the SRT 4 Neon. Desicions, desicions.

  • the reason they kept the hp relatively low compared to say an evo or sti, is because they were trying to make an inexpensive car that can go fast. they made it front wheel drive to keep it inexpensive but you cant throw 300 hp to the wheels on a stock fwd suspension; idiots who cant drive will crash due to torque steer

  • @postersurfman1 You can actually convert the drivetrain to AWD pretty simply now. The Caliber SRT-4 comes with the same engine pushing I think like 300 with an AWD drivetrain that many have used to convert the Neon to AWD

  • @lild192 Huh, I didn't know the Caliber offered AWD. Then again, some of Dodge's cars are Mitsubishis with there name on it, like the 2 door Stratus is an Eclipse. Or the old Dodge Stealth & Mitsu. 3000 GT, or the Plymouth Laser, Mitsu. Eclipse, Eagle Talon as well. The Caliber might have got its suspension from an Mitsu. Lancer or Evo along with their turbos. It could be possible. Still the SRT 4 Neon is great.

  • @lild192 ?! Caliber SRT4 is FWD. There is no AWD SRT, except the Cherokee SRT8. Caliber also has the 2.4L world engine - not the original turbo 4 in the Neon SRT.

  • That's very true. But much like the Daytona of Dodge's past, if they quoted the REAL horse power, insurance companies would flip and you'd be paying out the ass in premiums.

    Think about it...220-230 at the wheels...that's roughly 240-250 HP. If insurance companies knew that, (and parents to boot) they wouldn't have sold as well as they did.

    Dodge is using the correct figures on the Caliber SRT, 285 HP I think it is. I've seen two of them on the road. (Couldn't be cause its ugly, right?)

  • Well... most SRT-4's have been abused so it's hard to tell. Jackass owner before me beat the living hell out of the tranny so i had to put 1200 into my tranny when i first got the car. Since then it's been a charm these last 3 months no problems whatsoever.. and i run it pretty rough sometimes. I would say they are pretty reliable. I drove 18 hours on a trip and had no problems. I didn't boost maybe more than 5 times.. so my gas mileage was around an amazing 30 MPG. Gotta love turbo!

  • This Transmission is far more durable than any of it's competitors though. The WRX and STI have way more Transmission problems.

  • Good comment buddy. I'm sick of the "It's just a Neon bullshit". People that say that don't realize.. there are 700 HP Neons anyways and no 700 HP impreza's or base lancers that I'm aware of. I also know of many Neons with 300k miles on them. Sure this is a completely different car.. BUT what if it was a Neon? It's reliable, has won rally championships and they make way more power than their Civic and Corolla competitors.

  • The 04-05 model had more hp & Torque 230hp & 250tq they ran 5.3 in most mags 13.9 quarter mile

Also its a very well balanced car and is very fun to drive, and I always love it when cocky STI, EVO, GTI, Mustang, etc owners roll up next to me making fun, then they find themselves too embarrassed to roll back up next to me again.

This is a neon under the skin and in it's class there are many better cars such as the wrx, gti, etc. And no, these cars did not sell very well in the grand scheme of things. Many people are afraid to buy cars from american car makers because of the stigma they carry.     American car manufacturers have been struggling due to competition from abroad, the economic downturn is what finally pushed them over the edge; the last nail in the coffin if you will.

    I must say that i admire the fact that we don't get too down and dirty about this.

  • I saw Car and Driver tv show and they tested the car 14.2 1/4 0-60 5.4sec and motorweek tested the car slower dont get it.

  • my brother has a 2005 srt4 and with an intake, a custom exhaust and raising boost with stocks fuel injector, stock computer and stock fuel regulator he gaot in the 1/4 mile times of 12.8 sec. He didn't spend a lot of money, only a boost controller, an intercooler, port the stock turbo and he got that time. The SRT-4 is a great car and is not expensive
