  • I am a NES fanboy and after seeing this video I have to go buy a SMS.

  • Wonderboy 3 The Dragons Trap isnt only the best game on the Master System, it is the Greatest game in existence, PS3, XBOX 360, WII, i own them all, and nothing compares compares to the brilliance of that single game, the graphics, the soundtrack, the Charm of which we will never see the likes of again, Sega we salute you x

  • @ExodusPaddy wonderboy in monsterworld is really great to.

  • @KiwiLetsPlays yes it is good old memories hohoho Morsk

  • @baranboy6 *BOOM !* yes im alive !

  • Are Sonic The Hedgehog for the Genesis and Sonic The Hedgehog for Master System completely different games? If they are I may just have to pick up a copy of the Master System version!

  • ALEX KID AND RUNNING BATTLE!! =D (for me) the best games on sega Master

  • omg, golden axe is a copy of zelda!

  • @molitva2007, don't you mean Golden Axe Warrior looks like Zelda? Golden Axe is more like Double Dragon with weapons and magic.

  • You have game gear games on here. Something tells me you are just playing emulators and not the actual games since the emulator is the same for SMS and sega GG. You are probly too young to have played these in their heyday. not too bad for a young one.

  • @nailnine Wow... What ever made you think the footage used for making this video was recorded with emulator?

  • OH GOD, PENGUIN DROP! I loved that so much. ^_^

  • my anus rim is pulsating and rancid sappy bum-juice is dripping from it. i will have to change my underpants.

  • THESE ARE 8-BIT GAMES!!???? They look better than many Nes games!!! Wow! I missed out not ever buying a Master System!!

  • @rang3r34 nes was also 8 bit :O

  • @Valnar22 also a. 2600

  • @rang3r34 Master System had a lot more colorful graphics than NES did, unfortunately the sound chip was pretty crappy as you might be able to hear.

  • @Bastiest It's all cool, id still play if the game were fun and this eye pleasin'!!

  • I would like to contest this Master System list on a few counts. 1) Sonic the Hedgehog first of is a port and while it did feature some content not in it's 16-bit predecessor the master system version was also EXACTLY the same as the GameGear Version and should be disqualified.

    Castle of Illusion as well.

And what, no Space Harrier love? lol (I'd personally bump Phantasy Star up the list)

  • It's times like these I'm happy to live in the UK, as we had Alex Kidd In Miracle World built in to our Master System 2s :D

It was my first game ever :)

  • sonic is shite on sms..i always felt sorry for it as it is so desperate..ninja gaiden on the other hand is quality

  • Totally agree with your #1!!!!

  • that was NOT the SMS bubble bobble music. Totally NES. haha

  • If anyone is interested in zelda clones like golden axe warrior, theres another good one for turbo grafx 16 called Neutopia

  • Hi. Just stopping by to say that Phantasy Star I has great music.

    Thanks.

  • @InFaMoUsGaMMa And yet they didn't use it for the video. lol

  • are you fucking insane? phantasy star 1 had awesome dungeon music

  • euh... what about out run???

  • I don't know HOW you based these games as a Top 10 list for the SMS, with the exception of Phantasy Star and Penguin Land. What about Kenseiden? The incredible Altered Beast port for 8-bit? Alien Syndrome? Shinobi? C'mon.

  • hahahaha you play phantasy star 2 music when you show phantasy star. but that's okay because both games are great. :]

  • good graphics for an 8 bit o.0 total NES killer

  • @Kidanis Absolutely agree. Said it before and I'll say it again... Sega pushed 8 bit to it's max.

  • Bubble Bobble isn't an exclusive Sega Game is it? Wasn't that on all platforms?

  • @hootyhaha Yeah, you're right.

  • I actually own 6 of these games.. Sega Master System is an underrated system for sure..

Good job on the video. Nostalgia is scary..

  • I really liked the SMS back in the day and still play it even today. I just wish they had released the enhanced Yamaha FM add-on board here in the states. The main thing I disliked about the SMS was the sound support. It was very limited and got old really fast.

  • SMS won the war in the UK, no one has hardly heard of the NES over here.

  • @steve5123456789 In Brazil and most of Latin America too. I had a NES, but most of my friends had Master Systems - SEGA was really strong here (and still is among retrogamers). My favourite console still is the Sega Saturn. I really miss Sega. =/

  • @CervantesXV Same shame theres not not more games for it, I don't feel like learning Japanese either to play some Saturn games I got Panzer dragoon saga tho, and Shining force 3 cheeky :), the dreamcasts games were fun, but no where no as hardcore as the saturns games except the resident evil games on dc.

  • Now the SMS is a masters list because like the NES, The SMS is its twin. I mean they're bother old, both 8 bit and both easy. well what can you say about their graphics?

  • for sharing us your top 10

  • the bubble bobble song is like stuck in a fun house w out there being an exit. pure child madness that can drive u insane.

  • Anyone know how to rip music from the ROMs?

  • you can tell a consle is bad when penguin land is one of the best games

Haha just kidding if it's made by sega it's great

  • not a bad list but you're missing wonder boy in monster land

  • GREAT list, i use to sit and play alex kid and wonder boy for hours !!

  • u miss these GREAT GAMES

    out run

    shinobi

    dead angle

    double dragon

    cyber hunter

    Zillion 2

  • Some of these games almost look 16-bit!

  • PERFECT LIST

  • 10th game just cracked me out xD

  • It's amazing. The graphics in some of these games were almost comparable to that of the Genesis!

  • THE BEST top 20 SMS List: 1. Phantasy Star 2. Wonder-Boy 3 - The Dragon's Trap 3. Alex Kidd in Miracle World 4. Bubble Bobble 5. Wonderboy 6. Sonic The Hedgehog 7. R-Type 8. Fantasy Zone 9. Mickey Mouse - Castle of Illusion 10. Space Harrier 11. Golden Axe 12. Altered Beast 13. Shinobi 14. Double Dragon 15. Choplifter 16. Quartet 17. Ghouls 'n Ghosts 18. Golden Axe 19. After Burner 20. Rampage
  • Penguin Land was made in 1987

  • Phantasy star II's music for the first one...

  • I hope that I would have played Wonderboy 3 The Dragons Trap in my childhood,it looks like I would love it. :)

  • There is a factory sealed Phantasy Star I on ebay for sale right now!!

  • is that the sega cd background? 0:31

  • wow i didn't know that the master system was more powerfull than the nes. man

  • i never defeated the last dragon in wonderboy

think im going to buy a sms off ebay, to finally beat that motherf*****

  • is that the original golden axe warrior music for sms?

  • It's the Commodore 64 music from Golden Axe 1. I couldn't find the original G.A.W music.

  • @TheTop10s Wow! Just imagine if the Master System had the same sound chip as the C64! That would have been incredible!!!!

  • @TheTop10s great list, todays games can suck my balls..there no fun and way to complicated...these were the childhood classics!!!

  • At 3:53 i bet they stole that from Megaman 1 on the Dr Wily level!

  • Alex the Kidd in miracle world was made before Megaman.

  • That tune in bobble bubble isn't it "The happy wanderer" never realized that song was public domain!

  • I had penguin land it was such a great game!

  • Some graphics look good enough to be Genesis gfx, amazing.

  • is this segas version of the nes before they made genesis?

  • Yes. If you want more info on it, check out the Sega Master System Wikipedia page. It has history and the full game library on record.

  • dude I just started playing paper mario from your n64 video it kicks so much ass.

  • @andynewen As you can see the graphics for the most part are much better than NES. Sega took 8-bit games to it's MAX.

  • I own half of these games and I really want to play them now, but I lost my damn master system controller...

  • Phantasy Star was a pretty good game, but the music was absolutely horrible.

  • asterix looks like a zelda/mario ripoff

  • lol any Nintendo fanboy will say that about near enough any game made by sega.

  • One of the games listed (BubbleBobble) was already on NES and Golden Axe Warrior was an obvious Zelda ripoff. Phantasy Star was one of the only reasons I regretted trading in my SMS for an NES back in 88'.

  • REALLY good choices! Most of the games you listed are one of my favourites too

  • First time, when I see Sega Master System Games

  • Nice video. For once it's not too subjective, the best games are there. Maybe it lacks of sport or racing games, but it's not my type of games anyway. ^^

  • Golden axe loocks like a copy of The Legend of Zelda NES

  • It is, but it's a very good copy.

  • @TheTop10s I hear people actually say it's BETTER than Zelda!

  • @SuperMetroid555

Zelda is the copy! SEGA rules - Nintendo Sucks!

  • @SuperMetroid555

    Totally agree w you man...

  • Nice, this became video of the week on Gametrailers.

  • What was that awesome song for the #1 choice? Great vid, BTW!

  • That list brought back alot of memories. Thanks

  • excellent list. Wonderboy 3 The Dragons Trap is one of the best videogames ever.

  • Microsoft made Alex Kidd?!?

  • They published it in certain territories.

  • Nice top ten.

Id have Phantasy Star at the top and I liked Wonder Boy in Monster World better than Dragon.

The bad thing is that you ditched the Phantasy Star music. I liked it.

  • It's still Phantasy Star music.

Not from this one, but it still from the series :P

  • Great Top 10 brings back memories might have to go play some MS now. Was a little shocked at the exclusion of shinobi mind you

  • I was hoping to see Spell Caster, Out Run, Psycho Fox, Space Harrier, Quartet, Fantasy Zone or maybe even Gain Ground.

    Good list none the less

  • pretty decent list, but why no outrun, afterburner and the best game of all time space harrier???

  • Space Harrier is good, but to be honest it's boring after about 5 minutes into the game.

  • Great list. Would you consider Space Harrier for number 11? LOL

  • Hell yea, Wonderboy III. I am still looking for a hard copy of that game.

Would have been cool to see Rambo on there, but that is just me because of nostalgia reasons.

  • Decent list although I probably would have had Phantasy Zone II in there.

  • For Bubble Bobble you are playing the nes version back ground music are'nt you? The master systems is much slower.

  • Yes. The NES version also has better sound quality.

  • That's a great list, but I wish you would've added Double Dragon. It's better than the NES version. It has 2-player co-op arcade style!

  • Great list, really agree with the number one game, it's absolutely my favorite SMS game, but also one of my all-time old-school game favorites.

Still, I have to wonder if you've ever played Rescue Mission. Not saying it's an 'obvious' top game, but it was one that I had a lot of fun with back then. Might have just been the time I had with others during it, though. But it was interesting playing an indirect role in the game while the main character rode around on his own.

  • Alex Kidd is the very first game I played through to the end and completed!

  • For Bubble Bobble, the music is from the NES version.

  • That's a great list! :) Although I never owned a SMS, I still love some retro-games lists! But oh boy, Golden Axe Warrior looks like a Legend of Zelda with slightly changed sprites XD And damn! Look at 5:20! Wonderboy is fighting Gigan from Godzilla! O_O

  • Wow this list is actually really good! 6 out of the games in my top 10 are in this one. (And we both had a Mickey Mouse game as well)

  • Glad you liked it. I quite like your list too.

  • Wow, most people say Shinobi is the best SMS game.

  • Shinobi is great, as long as it's on Genesis.
