What's politically incorrect about the sentiment that the people involved in USA for Africa saw the plight of other countries as their own plight as well? Especially given that most of the artists involved were Black? Charities don't accomplish much, I'll give you that [too much corruption all around], but I'm not sure I'd call them "politically incorrect."
don't you ever feel that if you had a soundtrack to your life, Bruce's lyrics and their meanings could very nicely summarize every chapter of your life? I have had this thought for quite some time and when I stumble onto a song I haven't heard, it still relates to some aspect of my life, describes an emotion, a feeling, a mood.
Yes, I agree. However for this song you need to thank Jimmy Cliff for the lyrics. Bruce does a fantastic job and truth be told I prefer Bruce's rendition to Jimmy Cliff's. Bruce's original songs and covers do stand the test of time...
@grandepivko yes, thank you, I'm aware. But Bruce Springsteen sings it in a completely different manner... he makes it his own. I have heard the original by Jimmy Cliff and I didn't get the same vibe. That is, the original didn't speak to me in the same way as the Springsteen version does.
i dont remember ever hearing it this way-I know someday i'll find the keey in first verse good will cinquer evil and the truth will set me free and i know that ill walk out of here again and i went to more concerts back then. Guess i missed the original version. greeaat song. I have sang it in my head many times when i have felt trapped
Did you guys know its a Jimmy Cliff cover. Jimmy played it once on Letterman, its on youtube somewhere. Bruce totally kicks its ass. I love this song. I hope to hear it in 2009!!!!!
God bless the E Street Band for the loss of its Big sound. Clarence you'll be so missed.
