  • Thanks for sharing that. Very good explanation.

  • very nice instuctional video, you have anymore

  • correct. i should have metioned that this test proves that the motor winding and switch are good. the gears and motor can still be seized.@thereceman

  • marking the timer while running will show you the timer is timing. timer may test good, but once installed still may not be timing properly.

  • Awesome, shared with our members

  • nice video, thank you for share all the info.

  • ..a lot of these 'know it alls' can learn a lot from you..!

  • excellent stuff....thanks...you know your trade when you can teach it and you are a great teacher

  • A+++

  • nicely done...clear, concise, understandable...BRAVO!

  • @MrJIMBOB57 Thanks

  • Very good video, You did a great job !!!

  • @skyman698 Thank you.

  • Thanks for the video! Using it, I was able to test the Defrost timer and prove that it was good, I then tested the heater with a multimeter and it read 36 ohms. I then narrowed it down by testing the Bi-Metal Thermostat in a glass of ice water and it remained open, when it should have been closed. Jumped a wire to bypass it temp and clicked the timer to defrost and voila it was heating as it should! New Bi-Metal Thermostat ordered for $17 shipped off Amazon! Saved money over buying a new refrig.

  • great video, very easy to understand, thanx a ton

  • you should become a teacher, clear and precise.

  • @MrDitto30 thanks

  • like your videos what about basic information about how to covert a wiring diagram to a circuit diagram in a ladder form difference between control and power circuit

    steve australia

  • Thanks very helpful !!!!!

  • Well done video! I have a defrost timer that ticks constantly, sounds like a clock ticking. The fridge never seems to maintain a consistent temp, running 39 degrees to 48 at various times. Freezer always seems fine though I don't have a thermometer in it to test. Also, this is a freezer on top model and the frame above the fridge and below the freezer get quite warm sometimes. What do you think?

  • Excellent explanation. Thanks!

  • What kind of multi meter is that?

  • @vichimself69 Fieldpiece SC77

  • excellent vid!

  • This helped me much, thank you!

  • Great video. Great presentation. I dig it, keep it going.

  • Thanks for the helpful video. Got to do some work on my fridge and this helped explain the workings of the timer immensely .

  • Thanks for the video. I always forget which points are which, but i can always check this video and remember. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I like how nice your schematic drawing is. It reminds me when I was in trade school and all our schematic drawings had to be straight.

  • Thanks! Your videos have helped my husband in so many home repairs. He is a budding electronics repairman and he enjoys watching your work. :)

  • thanks for this video.

    insightful and logical.

I think I can use this! good job.

  • This was very helpful and saved me lots of time. Thanx.

  • awesome!

  • Good Knowledgable Video

  • You are a very good teacher. Your diagram and was way you used it was exceptional. I hope you keep doing the videos. I will be looking for them. Thank you very much.

  • Thank you for that excellent lesson!

  • Excellent explanation. Thank you this will save the guy with a little know-how and some ambition a lot of money on a service call. Thanks again. I just love sharing information.

  • hey man you really helped me out i really need to learn this and some of those other guys dont know how to explain anything. but you do.

i hope your going to upload some more videos on wiring up entire a/c units..

THANX ALOT MAN. you just dont know how much this helped me out..

  • Thank you very much for a very clear and informative video.People like YOU make this a better world.Thank you.Tec

  • PEOPLE LIKE "JAMESBOND504" ARE THE TYPE OF PEOPLE THAT I WORK WITH. SELFISH ALL THE WAY. IS NOT THAT 21FOOTXPRESS IS GIVING UP INFORMATION HE IS SHARING IT WITH US HIS COLLEGUES. NOBODY KNOWS EVERYTHING, WE ALL HAVE QUESTIONS ALONG THE ROAD. I WENT 2 YEARS TO TRADE SCHOOL, AND I AM STILL LEARNING.21FOOTXPRESS: THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR VIDEOS, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, WHEN IS THE NEXT VIDEO COMES?.

  • Great instructional vid. Thanks dude!

  • 21footexpress: I went to trade school, and I found this to be one of the BEST videos I have seen. I appreciate your help, and believe me, I have not taken money from some tech--I just would have fought it myself! But when I can, I help others too. jamesbond504 is not a Christian, I am guessing. Thanks for the great work!!

  • You keep up the good work of God. That's the problem with knowledge; too many people try and hoard information. In this day and age...we need good information like this make it from paycheck to paycheck. May God in Heaven bless you for sharing...

  • I am going for HVAC myself but I am for posting videos.Thank You for posting your videos.

  • If everybody knew stuff like this, we'd put all the appliance stores out of business!!

  • @HardKnocks60 Not true. For the most part people don't like troubleshooting. They rather pay for someone else to do the dirty work. Secondly if you did do it yourself where would you get the replacement part?

Moreover thanks for the great video. I spend $40 just to have a tech come and look my Frig to tell me it would be another $90 to patch the problem not fix the problem with of course no guarantee.

  • Thanks bro. Its great help to a layman like me :)

  • I have a question. The refrigerator that I am working on has a defrost timer just like the one in your video. I tested it out and its a good timer but, when I put it back in, it advanced from the defrost cycle into the cooling cycle. But when the compressor comes on the the timer stops ticking. should the timer be on 24/7? also what capacitance reading should i get between 1 and 3?

  • nice and simple explanation. thanks

  • You are doing a great job, I went to a vocational school as well but I don't care if people try to learn something. Besides when people who do not get a proper training see this they will realize they need a tech. Keep up the good work and shake'em haters off!!

  • Thank you so much for this video. It´s very good and useful.

Best regards from Argentina, the country of Tango! ;)

  • good video mate explained everything very well

  • thank you for the video i went to school also and you're a much better instructor

  • you do a very good job explaining keep up the good vidios

  • Keep going 21footxpress, we can not listen to ignorance that will be rule number one

  • I agree with you. If you read my channel page you will see that I stated that these videos are to help people who are in school are just started in the trade. I spent 20 months in trade school so I know how you feel. Please do not use harsh language to make your point.

  • @21footxpress lets see if he can explain how defrost works on a circuitboard refrigerator, now that would be some explaining

  • Don't worry about negative comments. No matter how much imformation you give, not everyone is "mechanically inclined" or willing to get their hands dirty. These videos will help people that are already eager to learn. Keep up the good work!

  • they took our jobs!!!

    damn internets!!!

  • @jamesbond504

Also learn how to write, your grammar makes you sound like a drunk retard i hardly believe you even passed vocational school.

  • @jamesbond504 because he wants to. I went to school for a couple years fro electronics and give out all the info. I can for free. What do you think about that? And MC8 is over man. In the history books.

  • my ohmeter doesn't have Microfarades or whatever setting so when I check 1 to 3, I just get O.L or infinite resistance but when I hook the timer up and plug the refrigerator in I can see the timer motor turning through two small peepholes so is that sufficient to determine that the 1 to 3 connection is OK?

  • The resistance is very high. Your meter my no be able to read that high. What meter r u using

  • @21footxpress A Fluke 73 (roman numeral 3)

  • @piper4seeformerly He is using a meter to test capacitance. On your meter the voltage will charge and then return to zero. This is not an accurate reading though. All that tells you is you don't have a direct short or a massive leak. A capacitor can never truly be tested with an everyday VOM meter. You would need a capacitance meter like he has.

  • good job dude! nice explanation!

  • a+ nice job

  • Excellent video, you are very well educated perfect!!!

  • Bra you need to be a Instructor or are you one already? because you have a gift to teach.Peace!!

  • thank you very much great video

  • Hi 21footxpress,

great videos. I have a question on a commercial time defrost digital type.

How do you determine the wire connections if you don't have a diagram.

The unit has 6 wires. black, white, yellow, purple, blue and orange.

    black is power

    white is nutral

and the rest I don't know

    thanks

  • easy to understand easy to put into work...thank and many thank

  • very good video. i learned something today

  • Multi meter does wonders and they are cheap..get you one and fix a lot of things around your house

  • Hi, thanks a bunch for the video... I understand defrost timers a lot better now!

I can hear my defrost timer ticking, but my freezer doesn't seem to get cold enough to freeze foods. The weird part is that ice is starting to form on the lowest part of the freezer, and I can see some frost forming up on the ceiling of the fridge compartment (standard freezer on top of fridge GE Profiler model). If I can see this frost, why isn't the food in my freezer frozen?

  • Comment removed

  • thanks great explanation

  • I just replaced the defrost timer a month ago, and every time I come out in the morning there is a huge puddle of water coming from under my fridge, it seems like its in defrost for too long. What should I do?

  • See if the draib is clogged

  • your fridge cycles on heat for two long. Try to shorten the heat cycle.

Wow, this guy is an amazing instructor. I want him.....

  • If your timer was stuck and not defrosting for a while there will be a great deal of ice built up on the evaporator core. With the defroster now working, there will be an abnormal amount of water going to the drain pan for a while - and if you have a small drain pan it can overflow. You can either wait until it stabilizes, or you can get it all over at once by defrosting the fridge (turned off, doors open, 24 hours or so).

  • Wow what a great tutorial!! My trainer on my job isn't close to a teacher as you are. Thank you for making this part a lot clearer in my head. God Bless.

  • Thanks

  • Hey Thanks. Always wanted to know this

  • Now you know. Thanks!

  • Good times. (see what I did?)

Another great video. I'm gonna watch them all.

  • top-and-bottom or a side-by-side

  • i own a side by side frigidaire

  • hi, were is the defrost timer located at.

  • Excellent Video! The rest of the comments speak for themselves and for you!!! Thank You! :D)

  • Hey man, thanks a lot. Some people suggested you becoming an instructor. I agree 100%. You are clear, direct and to the point, and thorough. It is rare to find tutorials on youtube at this level of excellence. God has blessed you with a gift man. Thanks for the help.

  • I have heard excellence, gifted and talented, These are all powerful words. And I thank you all very much.

  • wow thanks so much man.

  • great meter

  • would like to know which meter it is as well.

  • Fieldpeice SC77

  • You SHOULD be an instructor!! This is an excellent video. Thank you very much!

  • Excellent job on this video. I am certainly not very good with electrical but was able to understand your instruction. Thanks

  • I have a more effective defrost timer... when the freezer fills up with ice i grab my trusty hammer and bang the fuck out of it lol

  • You really need to consider becoming an instructor. You are really that good. Please post more videos.

  • Wow. I knew iI had to advance it clockwise 'til it clicked, but didn't know what to advance. One source said use a quarter, but you did without effort by hand.Thanx for showing me the simplicity of it all

  • Thank you for posting this. I never knew how to test these. You explained it very well.

  • great job man!!

  • mannnn you good

  • your a good man.

  • excellent videos you should be an instructor thanks!!!!!!!

  • you make really good videos-great explanations and great how to'sTHANX!!!

  • Hi, I'm seeing your video for the first time, and you break things down wonderfully. Thanks. I feel like I know something now. Please keep it up.

  • I like you videos will you make more im a Hvac student thanx

  • Video well done and informative, saved me a repair call and a fridge full of groceries.

    Thanks!!

  • Set the meter to microfarads. What meter do you have. (name and model)

  • Great video! Is the numbering of the pins the same for most or all brands?

  • You did a fantastic job of explaining how a defrost timer works thanks

  • thanks for writing me back...i just got into the union i am pre-apprentice ...do you have an email address? where we can talk more HVAC talks

  • what was the resistance from 1-3? how is it good? if it is off..would you have a higer resistance...if its on (motor) would you have a low resistance?

  • The reading from 1 - 3 will be very high. Make sur that your meter can check thounsands of ohms. The coil will be near 12k ohms. You never make an ohm check with the unit plugged in. Unplug it and remove the timer.

  • Thanks a ton...helped me a lot.
