God, this song was very popular when I was a little kid. Popular song by whoever original singer was.... Heard it all the time on the car radio whenever my family would pile into car for a Sunday drive. Must've been late 60s or early 70s. I'm same age as George, so when I was a kid I wasn't listening to George's version--which is very beautiful!!.

Actually, this is all about Hinduism. Buddhism has no concept of a Lord God. Boy George only flirted very briefly with Buddhism. He was mainly associated with ISCKON - the Hare Krishna movement. But I think he eventually rejected them because of their homophobia.

Boy George has a unique way of interpretting songs- he may not be a commercial singer but he's always able to capture the emotion behind the lyrics.
