i agree with you babs2fun. Mario had the better freestyle and was the most consistent throughout the year. I think one of the things that most people don't realize about this show is that the celebrities have to connect with the audience. I think that Mario was too quiet, as was Gilles and Mya while Emmitt, Shawn and Donny entertained the audience. I think that helps sometimes as well, but like everyone says, no matter how good you are all year long, the freestyle can make or break you.

@xandercordy1 I truly don't see how ANYONE could look at the stiffness in Mario's dancing and compare it to the smooth, cool rhtymic style of Emmitt Smith, And then throw in his footwork and hip action and he's unbeatable in any dance form???Mario is stiff !!!

You really think that Shawn connected with the audience better than Gilles? For me, I thought that Gilles had more of the attention and that he worked the crowd more. Shawn's dances were nice and fun but she didn't connect as much. But yeah, the freestyle really affects who wins. Gilles was better (score wise at least) than Shawn and Mya was the better dancer in her season but because people prefered Donny's and Shawn's more they won. Now there is too much emphazise on freestyles

I agree that the freestyle affected so much on who wins, but I don't think people votes for who has the better freestyle. I think people still voted for their favorites, except freestyle is just too heavy to lose. So no matter how big your overall score was, no matter how much vote you got, if you blew the freestyle, your out. and no matter how low you score overall and probably didn't get much vote, if you got a 30 in freestyle, you have the mirrorball.

@Fanaa4ever Well, just observe this for example, all of the highest freestyles have taken home the mirrorball. That's gotta say something right? So many surprise wins has happened in dancing with the stars because of freestye. So this season, I really love Evan and Anna, and I really hope they win. But Derek Hough (include Julianne and Mark B.) is really strong in freestyle. So hopefully Anna steps it up!

Yep, and it happened again. Nicole who had the best freestyle (according to the judges, not me I wasn't really a fan of any) won.

Poor Anna though, she was soo sad in the video about the freestyle.

sad but true...it all comes down to the free style. Shawn did a better free style than Gilles, shawn won. Emmitt did a better free style he won. Donny did a better free style, so i think he'll win.

I've been watching DWTS for some time now. I've always admired Cheryl Burke. She is such a magnificent dancer. Goes to show, she's the only one who has won twice and she almost made it three this season. And in my eyes she won. Of course Gilles Marini wasn't bad at all. (Gorgeous). Best partner ever for cheryl. Great chemistry together. Loved watching them dance. Wow!!!

Actually, Cheryl was the first two-time champion for back-to-back wins followed by Julianne Hough (Seasons 4 & 5). Mark Ballas is the only male to have two wins for Seasons 6 & 8, respectively. I think Derek Hough will try to become the 2nd if he returns. Cheryl Burke didn't learn under the tuteledge of Mark's parents like many of the other 'DWTS' professionals. Here's to hopes that she gets a good partner next season should she return . . .

I think this is the best freestyle, simply becuase Emmitt has the best personality, and they went amazingly together.I think Mario's freestlye was horrible. I was so dissapointed because he really is a good dancer, but overall Emmitt has the moves and the personality to match.

The thing about this couple, they go out there and have fun dancing, they make it look so like so much fun. He's the most improved dancer in this season yet he's consistently humble. Mario is the better dancer but he's not as personable as Emmitt. And add the fact that voters seemed a little turned off by Karina, she seemed a proud and bitchy. America loves Cheryl, she really does have the heart of the champion.
