  • Unbelievable. He's going to go so far.

  • Needs more heroin

  • my drum teacher taught him:)

  • that boys jacked up on mountain dew!

  • “I think Mike is perfect for what Billy is doing now; a great drummer with an extremely bright future.” Jimmy Chamberlin.

  • I mean I can remember watching old Zeppelin then in the 80s whitesnake was the new Zeppelin I think not :/ that's why I loved the 90s Nirvana pumpkins weezer? Remember those days. I went back futher to find old punk ramones Gen x ect

  • This is the meaning of what has been done before? Chamberlin was different not a copy of old drummers who I love as well if he was I would buy teach me chop videos sorry I feel this way

  • 4:27 I agree he can't replace chamberlain...but he can replace a drumstick without missing a beat

  • lol moby dick

  • Great drummer making his way. Billy Corgan provided him a great opportunity and he seems wise enough to develop himself in a healthy way. I look at it with good eyes

  • I'm afraid this kid's gonna wear himself out; his drumming looks pretty tense and brute-force (and I'm not a drummer). Really, WTF Corgan. Is he talented? Yes. Is he far too young to be in your band? Yes. I hope this kid is able to exit quietly and gracefully before he gets hooked on drugs or in a fight with Corgan.

  • I like the age mix! I love the Pumpkins as a whole and I think they sound great! I'm anxious to see them live, again.

  • Come on guys, we've seen this drum solo a million times........average at best...be honest......just a bunch of jacking off all over the drums, not my thing.......Chamberlin never played anything like this, Chamberlin has the skills to rip your head off

  • @hegotallofthatone Jacking off some Moby Dick!!!

  • @hegotallofthatone Feel free to post your drum solo that is better.

  • moby dick haha

  • He'll never fill that void that Jimmy left...........

  • @AManUnitedSupporter Thats what she said...

  • and how about Mike is only 21 years old right now and Jimmy was 24 when he joined the smashing pumpkins, give mike another 5 or 6 years and then compare the two

  • You can tell how much Jimmy's drumming has influenced Mike. Besides the use of his toms I liked Mike's solo. I hope he improves a lot for Oceania and help get Smashing Pumpkins back on their feet again. As for Jimmy he has every right to leave.

  • Call me crazy but I felt a bit of Neil Peart from this kid. I'd say he definitely has talent and while we can sit here and compare him to Chamberlin, the fact of the matter is that the band chose him to take over for Chamberlin.

  • At 4:26 he loses a drum stick and spawns another one. EPIC LoL

  • remember when even Billy said something about Jimmy doing a solo, "isn't EVERY song a solo?" Yeah, Jimmy did THAT. but, he aint playing anymore, and this kid has tha chops, inspiration, and he's working w/ Billy! you're still getting great music, and Jimmy has given Mikey his "blessing" I love his playing!

  • seriously take in mind how young he is right now and hes already playing like that, hes gonna only get better from then on out, he wont replace chamberline so just deal with the loss cause this kids a great drummer

  • No one can replace Jimmy, but that guy's real showy despite how good he is

  • Need I remind all of you about all the issues that Chamberlin caused in the band? Give the kid a chance, and trust Billy's judgement. If he beat out Khachaturian during the auditions, then he must be good.

  • This kid is what 21 22? Just think what he's going to do at Jimmy's age... but really right now its like having sex with the best whore in Denmark, and then going to a bible belt virgin. Its like yeah its good, but its not nothing like the aged and experience.

  • he needs to use his whole arm to compensate for the power Chamberlin has in one finger.

  • His drum solo sounds like the type you'd hear when you walk in guitar center. Sounds like he learned it in videos and instruction manuals, listen to Chamberlin and it comes from somewhere supernatural.

  • @draktsunami Dude I agree. As a drummer myself (but nowhere near as good as Chamberlin- I'm only human) Chamberlin's drumming is just fucking unique...

  • OMG

Do u people not know music?

    note for note Led Zep

John Bonham created that over 35 years ago and he's been dead for over 20

credit to Billy for playing such an awesome song live

  • The kids good. I'm sure Corgan is trying to strenghten his ego. I can't imagine being a 19 year old kid and playing drums for him. Corgan's a douche in general though.

  • Jimmy was humble and never did solos in concert. Maybe 1 or 2 that lasted 20 seconds. Jimmy was smart and soloed in songs if you will. Disguised!!! This is EGO. I hate spotlight showoff drum solos.

  • @1122stardust ... What are you talking about? The first show I saw, he did a drum solo right before United states. The second show I saw, he opened up the whole show with a 3 minute drum solo. And this is not ego, this is Moby Dick which requires a drum solo.

  • Yeah. Why Compare?

Buh Buh Buh Buh Buh Buh......

    Whatever

You dig how they rock or you don't ....

I bought Gish when it came out -- and I still have a great time with these guys...

  • dat dude is awsome

  • "Hi Mom and Dad, I'm famous now. W00T!"

  • moby dick amazing song

    great drummer though

  • Of all the drummers that have taken Jimmy's seat (Kenny Aronoff, Matt Walker, etc) I think Mike comes the closest to getting Jimmy's vibe. Typical arena rock solo here; he sounds better in the band context. Jimmy's liberal use of blazing single stroke rolls and swing feel can't be touched, but Mike's doing an admiral job filling some pretty big shoes.

  • @billandstaci I THINK MIKE IS THE NEW JIMMY

  • 3:33 "WHAT NOW PUNKS?!"

  • billy should have gotten zach hill

  • @eatrocksah Mike is a really awesome drummer

  • Normally when the title says "Amazing solo" it usually turns out to be far from impressive. But this was very good. Saw a few Neil Peart influences in there

  • You guys are honestly idiots.

Chamberlain clearly doesnt want to come back.

This kid is a great drummer, but i think that billy knows just as much as you or me that this kid isnt replacing chamberlain, no one ever will be able to.

    Get over it

  • @PunKoverZ I absolutely agree with you

you may be stating the obvious but people need to realize there is only one jimmy chamberlain

    nevertheless this kid is fantastic

  • @PunKoverZ Words of wisdom, people. Deal with it.

  • @PunKoverZ That kid has to live in the shadows of 1 of the best modern rock drummers, and it wasn't even rock that gave Jimmy his chops. More like jazz, or big band jazz. Danny Carey studied jazz rhythms to. This kid is mediocre @best. I've played with better drummers, and I can still count the amount of times I've been payed professionally. I miss the old S.P.'s, but the Jimmy Chamberlain Complex is pretty ripping.

  • @TheRestlessMinds Mediocre at best? Well I'd love to hear what a good or very good drummer sounds like then. He might not be as good as Jimmy yet but to call him mediocre is just an insult, he is faaaaaar from mediocre.

  • I personally believe this kid is already more dynamic than chamberlain. Chamberlain has like one set style. this kid can play anything.

  • what the hell. id be so bummed out if i saw this instead of the smashing pumpkins i grew up listening to...billy corgan must be super jealous of greenday's recent success to pull this sort of gimmick. garbage.

  • you bunch of dicks, this is a cover of Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin! what a fool to try and emulate john bonham btw

  • Im not a fan of the pumpkins at all but common of course chamberlin was a good drummer but for his age and everything else , did he drop one stick ? was he off time at any point? no he was consistent and so forth loud as guitar sounds that probably would be suited for primus can be upheld by this kid i think he good for as average as it gets

  • This is so lame. Billy Corgan has gone insane if he thinks this kid can replace Chamberlin

  • This is awful. 20 years old or not when playing in a professional band making the kind of money they do and charging the ticket prices they do "good for a 20 year old" is not good enough. Even Jimmy Chamberlin was never really anything to rave about, but this is a definite down grade for sure.

  • @Bloodgoreandguts While you are correct that Byrne is not as good as Chamberlin, Jimmy is certainly "something to rave about". Maybe you just haven't heard enough of his drumming; perhaps you should check out a song called Streetcrawler. Jimmy is a jazz fusion drummer...nothing more needs to be said.

  • @Bloodgoreandguts Another video you should check out is "An Ode to No One" live at the Metro from 2000. I doubt if you know of any other drummer that could play that.

  • @TheAlibabatree Just watched it. You are right.

I was initially impressed by this kid, but he has got nothing on Jimmy Chamberlin

  • Comment removed

  • Somewhere Jimmy Chamberlin is watching this and with his eyes wide in shock he is whispering "holy s***"

  • dude this kid, is awesome. how is this boring or anything negative??

    this world is fucking depressed

  • wtf

  • No wonder corgan picked him, he's so fucking boring and uninspiring. Christ Cogan needs to move the fuck out of the early 90's and drop his ego.

  • @Phenomate How many records have you sold again?

  • JC shirt is too big for this kid!

And btw, this is moby dick solo (Led Zeppelin) .

  • @robrenco no shit.

  • yeah a lot of dumb comments jimmy has experience longer history with drums, this kids only been plain fer nine yrs. he's killin.

  • ... great skills, but doesn't have Bonzo's bang'n madness.

  • you people are fucking stupid, you say kids good but jimmys way better obviously because this kid is only 20 and jimmy been playing music longer before he was born

  • holy this kid is on fire!

  • great drummer but i still think jimmy is way better. to be fair jimmy wasnt too hot on doing solos, whereas this kid really gets into it. jc forever

  • Dude, this kid is suuuch a sick drummer, sounded just like Bonham there. Great touch, feel; I'm not gonna lie, he's better than Jimmy.

  • @greyquan I agree he's better then I thought, but, Jimmy's still better. But this kid has talent up the ass!

  • You guys all fail that was a cover of John Bonham's Mobey Dick know your drumming.

  • @sabian1hhx1only true. Yet at the same time, to be able to play it that accurately would be a difficult task, I would imagine. He's good,

  • fucking awesome. 19 years old.

  • I don't wanna go to work.. I just wanna bang on my drums all day!

  • Saw them at the Crest on 9/6. Great stuff. I like how quickly he recovers from a dropped stick in the middle of a snare roll at 4:27.

  • Before seeing this I never used to like Mike, but that was pretty awesome.

I still really miss Jimmy though :(

  • @carrla10 Do you know what happened to Jimmy? Why did he leave SP?

  • Damn, he 's better than I thought. He's actually really good, miles behind Jimmy still

  • great!
