@ninjawarrior149 Very few people have guessed correctly. This experiment was performed in front of me by one of my teachers LIVE, and I still had a hard time guessing.
An economist, philosopher and mathematician embark on a train ride to the UK. When the train reaches the border to UK they look out the window and see a cow facing the train. The economist says, look there are spotted cows in London. The philosopher then remarks, no, there is at least one spotted cow in London. The mathematician then remarks, no, there is at least one cow in London which is spotted on at least one side.
we watched this in school & at first i thought it was a candle and when you bit it i was like "whoa this girl is messed up!" but then i realized it wasn't a candle, lol. what is it? someone said a potato others said chocolate.
@BeatThatMusic Some of your classmates were very close. If you really want to know, send me a message so I can avoid revealing the secret to the entire Youtube community.
@August1977 Ah yes. I apologize...this was a class project I completed in undergrad, and unfortunately, I did not realize the background noise would be so loud. After the video was complete, it was easier to leave it be rather than redo the entire thing (I am not very good with video programs).
in the school they said me that i gotta see the difference of observaion and different but i dont really know beacause im new on middle school and am a little nerves
@blueswamp96 I agree...after I made this video, all of my gentlemen friends made fun of me for a week. I'll have to work on making the "candle" look less phallic.
i love your video!! I am a science teacher and would love to be able to show this to my students, but can't access youtube in my school (it is blocked). Would you consider posting this on teachertube?
@leztemc I just uploaded the video to teachertube under the title "Observation vs Inference". It is currently being reviewed by the site admin, so hopefully it will be available soon.
It's an apple with a walnut as the wick (or another oily nut). the nut will burn for a brief time. Very important concept when observing classrooms and kids.
Nicely demonstrated. Data vs inference. I infer from your video that you are a good teacher. I'd enjoy seeing you make another demo on the importance of inference in spot decisions, the role our instincts make in 'gut' decisions the danger they might pose as well as the good they may hold. You give us a lot to think about. Very nice.
the candle is made of a potato and the wick is a walnut.

M16A60ShotBurst 4 months ago
@M16A60ShotBurst There are certain items that can provide a great crunch. And no, you are not stupid.

is it a white carrot?
ninjawarrior149 5 months ago
@ninjawarrior149 A white carrot?! I didn't know those existed! But no, it is not a white carrot.
terry1295 5 months ago
Its a banana!
emymarie1 5 months ago
@emymarie1 I'm not sure if a banana would provide the 'crunch' noise as much as the item I used. however, it would have tasted much better!
terry1295 5 months ago
I think it's a carved and stacked radish.
ninjawarrior149 5 months ago
@ninjawarrior149 I like your guess! However, it is not a radish even though a radish would work great as well.
terry1295 5 months ago
its an apple

I have another good one from a Mark Haddon book.

Very hard to make any observations of the candle when the attention is lured towards what's behind the candle..lol
