ive seen some biggy around my house they get pretty visious if u piss em off my big bro was cutting wood with dad and cut i big 1 in half with the axe the front half still went after him and bit him boy did he scream
@UltimateGuitarist17 mmm i havent seen 1 around in a while then again i havent been looking ima go look for 1 i havent seen any of these black 1s i only see the big red 1s they would make a pretty cool pet thou they would probly bite me ive seen pet 1s that have had there pincers cut off but thats a bit mean, i did find some cave wetas yesterday thou i cant remeber if they bit,1 of them was huge, o yea but back to the centipedes 1 used 2 live under my door mat was at least a good 20cm
@SytheClaw Iv been bitten by one this size once and it hurt bad as, it turned purple and got swollen. They hate being mishandled so you gotta be real careful and let them go where they want, I couldn't imagine being bitten by one your talking about ouch!!!!
Whats a good way of finding one of these? I thought about taking a rake into the bush and searching under the foliage and leaf litter, the one I found was under a piece of plywood
Its cool that we both live in the same country we live in but some many things I can find that you couldnt and vice versa. You couldnt find this centipede, found only in New Zealand and only here in taranaki. The majority of the ones I find are found under logs and then its worth moving a bit of durt or pine neetles under that. Then the chase is on because they can run... fast.
Was the centipede you found looked like the one in my other video?
Haha, yeah. They are pretty defensive too. I didn't hold mine because I knew they are venomous and bite often... not tame things at all lol.
The one I found wasn't like yours, yours is sort of black with yellow legs... mine was like an orange pinkish red, but mostly a dark orange on its back and pink/white underneath.
I would love to find one again, like I said I might find some this weekend. If I do I will tell you.
How old are u? I have been doing this since the age of 2, im now 18 lol!
Man, I waited my whole life till last Jan to see wildlife in Aus... Its amazing! Spiders everywhere, scorpians, snakes, etc etc... ants are huge! And hurt like hell as my dad found out... lol
Are talking about at the zoos or like in public areas? I went to Singapore and the the ants there are huge too. You don't know whats really out there until you see for yourself, amazing stuff!
Na man, zoos are boring... you dont get the same feeling lol... I got chased by a brown tree snake i touched with a long stick, at first I thought it was an eastern brown but wasn't. Still i was freaked out lol, those can pack a punch in their bite but it wont kill you
Hey, went for a bush walk today to find centipede... I only found banded tunnelwebs and vagrant spiders. Centipedes are hard to find, I haven't given up though.
Excellent, Tunnel webs are easy to find vagrants are a little harder. I also rarely find any centipedes around here. Youl find one in no time though I'm sure.
Same here also I have seen more then one under the same log. Hey cant wait till you find me one of those centipedes, been wanting one for ages now. Have you ever kept any of them in the past?
Really? I kept finding small red ones, i think they are a different species from the giant centipede though. I didn't find any today either... I searched under leaf litter around trees and I found a Black Tunnel Web spider, I have been looking for this for 2 years! :D And to make it an even rarer occurance it was a male also! i was so happy, i will get an encloser/aquarium tank this week for it and maybe keep it for a while, I will also post a video up of it too at some stage
Yeah I know, Ive spent hours looking for something I really want and when I finally find one its brillant. Look forward to your black tunnel web spider vid
haha, might take a while for my black tunnelweb spider vid, I started filming and everytime I went to try and pick it up or even just open the lid it would run out so fast! lol, I have videos to show how much I had to turn my room upside down to catch it lol, I will try and get them up tonight :D
I once found a centipede in England when I was leveling a mud mound in a back garden that was nearly 3 inches and that is absolutely huge for this country. I think it had ate around 30 snails as all of their empty shells were in one place all around the holes that the centipede used. The shells were undamaged so I know it wasn't a bird or animal that had killed them. Do Australian centipedes get even bigger than 9.8 inchest or are they the same ones?
Its the same one found in australia. Cormocephalus rubriceps are found here and across the ditch most others are roughly the same length just different colours etc.
8 centimetres maybe, this isnt the giant New Zealand centipede a guy has contacted me and he has seen a few and will send me one when he finds one they get 25cm long (9.8 inches)
Native to New Zealand, the giant scolopendromorph centipede- Cormocephalus rubriceps can reach over 16 cm in length, only one of many Just look a little and you might find one
yay just found one of these 1s 2day and made it a little enclosure its not fully grown yet then i found a baby giant cent but it got away
