I heard training with weights for rock climbing was a no-no. Muscle is heavy shit. If you look at the climbers (Sharma, Osman etc...) they're (or were) very lean individuals. I noticed a improvement in my climbing after I stopped my added weight exercises (weight lifting/explosive power exercises). I've heard about climbing with packs for practice, but training with weights seems counter-intuitive seeing as though you don't want to add muscle mass, just get the most out of your existing mass.
@AlexDaDojoDude Muscle strengthens much faster than tendons. The only benefit I can see to climbing with weights is exactly as you're suggesting... to build muscle. I want only enough muscle to get me up the rock and no more; along with bulletproof tendons!
