The people who make it into top universities are good at making grades which doesn't mean they learn anything. School is easy for those of us with high IQs since it's catered to those with average to slightly elevated numbers so often we get bored and find more interesting things to do.

We don't require a formal education since our minds learn easy enough for us to teach ourselves what we need to know to keep ourselves amused.

The university you go to does not indicate how clever you are. I know people with better grades than most who go to 'lesser' universities. I also know people who are of slightly high intelligence who go to the best. It means nothing - at all.

Yes it matters. The top schools are highly selective, they only select the best of the best. Michael Kearney went to Alabama State because he could not get accepted at a better school. He might have graduated quickly but I doubt he got good grades. His parents just pushed him hard and made him take exams he was not prepared for. I bet his SAT scores were low, that's why only Alabama State would accept him

That is your fundamental mistake, "I bet..." Yes, the top schools are more selective, but it dos not mean that he does not have the same intellectual capacity as somebody who worked assiduously during their school years. I know many people who worked with 50% effort and enthusiasm, and still scored top grades, but ended up in 2nd tier universities. Those I know in the top universities worked arduously all their lives and only scored marginally higher.

I still think you're wrong. There might be a few exceptions to the rule that you are acquainted with, but the fact still remains that the vast majority of people in top tier schools are genuinely smart, and the vast majority of people in lower-tiered schools are not as smart. You might "know" a few people who deviate from that generalization, but they are, at best, exceptions to the rule. I'm done arguing, I know I'm right. Michael Kearney would have gone to MIT if he was accepted..

No, I know and know of many. The fact remains that (at least in the UK), 2nd tier universities' requirements are not that much lower than the top universities (Cambridge, UCL and Oxford); those who get into the top 3 that I just mentioned simply worked harder, in most cases. Yes, there is a degree of truth that top unis harbour great minds, but you cannot show disbelief in this guy JUST because he went to Alabama uni. Top universities require effort, more so than exceptional ability.

And it wasn't just this school, he went to a string of the lowest of the low-ranking schools, you HAVE to believe that he was very hardworking, so it's weird that his hard work never took him to a top tier school..
