I am really shocked and saddened to hear that Elmer passed away!!?? I worked on a big construction project with him in Kaneohe Bay on Oahu in around '88/89. I was living on a sail boat as he was too with his wife Judi, we were both south bound on a cruise in our respective boats. He was a truly great guy with a wonderful attitude to life! My condolences to his family.
@schlippery1 I will pass that along to Judy! Elmer was a great guy indeed. He had sold his sailboat just a few months before he passed away, was in the water over in Kona but it had been years sense he took it out, they often talked about there sailing ventures! Sounded very exciting for sure!! Aloha's ~
@Htowngangstaz Thank you I would appreciate that. Elmer was one of those people you meet in life that stay in your heart forever. He had a great sense of humor and a greater sense of kindness, I have been blessed in life to have met and worked with the few people like Elmer.
Thanks for the reply Htowngangstaz- your words echo those of everybody else I have spoken with who knew Elmer. I'm still sad I wasn't one of them : ( Anyway, thanks for putting these videos up. It's been a real treat and a blessing to watch him work, even if it was barely a glimpse into his world. -I wanted to ask about the way he does his base mounting, if I may. 'will send a pm. Cheers to ya-
I was chatting with Bonnie Klein last month and was about as heartbroken to hear that Elmer passed away as she was surprised that I knew who Mr. Adams was (in other words, VERY), particularly since I never got to meet him. I just knew something was amiss when his website came down : ( -I've much wanted to study some of his pieces as well- it seems he and I have similar tastes for perspective lines and a love of classical hollow forms.
@Crunchified Elmer was a cool guy, would share anything he knew, the shirt off his back! He sure had the love and passion for turning, 8 days a week as they say!
Enjoyed your videos about the large vessels.. I have a question. You said you put the bottom on in one video. Were you covering up the space from the face plate? Did you completely remove the bottom and install another? Your video has inspired me to finally try something large. i can turn up to 20 inches.
