Since DTW is my home airport, I flew Northwest in all but three of the times I've flown (though I've only flown around a dozen round trips). The other airlines I've flown were Spirit in 2004 (very lackluster) US Airways in 2008 (hated them) and Delta in 2011 (good service, TERRIBLE, HORRIBLY uncomfortable seats). My best memories of flying were as an unattended minor on Northwest. I will never forget those days long past now that all we have are terrible seats and tons of fees.
passengers the next year! Delta was 2 years older then nwa but nwa was still transporting passengers 2 1/2 years before Delta.
And international between nwa and Delta is a joke. Delta began carrying passengers in late 1929 and its first international routes (to the Caribbean and Caracas) in 1953. nwa began transporting passengers in 1927 and it's first international routes in 1928.
It took Delta a total of 29 years to go from a crop duster to an international airline.
Delta are idiots for not leaving at least a trace of nwa in there new livery. nwa already got the short end of the stick on the so called merger and nwa was the more dominant airline. Delta did not even own a single 747 until the merger, all the 747's you see painted in Delta colors are nwa's 747's. Delta Started out as a crop duster company in 1924 but did not start carrying passengers until late 1929!
nwa started out in 1926 transporting mail for the US Government and was transporting
Actually, Western was the oldest continuously operating airline in the U.S., dating its origins back to July 13, 1925. Western would be acquired by Delta 22 years before Northwest.
I am a Delta employee and grew up in MSP. Please understand that the Red Tail means as much to the NW people as the Widget does to us. It is up to us now to pull this togeather. I have talked to alot of NW employees and they, as all the Delta people agree its time to move forward. If Delta had merged and they kept the NW name, I would be skeptical too. But, to all the NW employees, Welcome to the New Delta. We have combined the best of each airline!
I grew up with my mom working for NWA from the 1970's into the 2000's before her retirement... NWA was THE PLACE to get a job/career back in the day. Very lucrative corporation if you could just get your foot in the door. It paid for my sister's and my medical bills, dental, braces, college...Thanks to NWA for taking care of our family over the years...You are missed.

boy you sure show you intelligence here.... rap music, colored boys.... Northwest Orient Airlines...FAA Code...NWA... NYSE Code...NWA... the airline started just after rap in the 30s.... nice. I guess you should have got on that train when they were handing out brains....
Well, if you ask my opinion, any time you name an airline after a bunch of colored boys rap music band, what do you expect?!! And the red, or "Bloods" color... OMG people! you are so stupid!
This is a great video brings tears to my eyes. Northwest Airlines was a grand airlines that had such a rich history. Created by its employees they are the ones that make a company great. I have lost almost all respect for airlines CEO. They are all retreads that f up other airlines all of the are college loser that no buss running grand companys. Blame unions all you want they are not the ones that mess things up. Southwest has and all union company and they seem to be doing great.
When ever I go to minneapolis I get mad its just not the same anymore I hate seeing the NW maintance hangers that I always loved seeing and dreamed of one day working there now wear the Delta colors. As fans of airlines we must never forget them as long as we do that they will never be gone
Metro with the redtails again? What memories. Thanks for positing this up. Only a few 757s left, and the 30s and 40s. Until September, when the 30s and 40s go. What did you operate for NWA?
Man... I grew up with Northwest Orient and Northwest Airline. I am training on the Boeing 757 ETOPS for Delta right now. I have to say this is the best damn Tribute ever! No one can beat this one!
I live in Atlanta and I remember going to Hartsfield- Jackson and seeing all the dc9s and a few a320s while I waited for my flights. They were truly beautiful. I will miss seeing those planes and while I only flew Northwest once, I will never forget it.
This airline was my favorite airline. I never had bad experience with NWA.
Since I immigrated to the US this airline gave me 2 trips and 1 free. I will surely missed you NWA. From DCA to Detroit/ MSP then Tokyo Narita/Nagoya or Osaka then MNL. I love you NWA.
I cried for nights for this video!! I have had dreams about being a pilot for them but AHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I'm crying now!!! I will miss you NWA I have never taken another airline except you!!!
NWA, please come home! All Airports are your home, all gates are open only for you! Delta will leave if you come back I promise!!!

It's so unfair.these two corporate individuals destroyed our airline. yes it made me cry. When you invest a lifetime
at one job it really hits home. The Red Tail
was our image. I retired in 2004 I had 38yrs and worked in every poss ground position. But we will keep you alive somehow
